Too early? [Opinions please]

With games like these, I personally find it annoying knowing how long I need to wait for a game when it's not even within the same year. I'd like to know how you all feel about them advertising about a game that's this far away from actual release, I know they've done it with tons and tons of games, but knowing almost a year before release sounds crazy to me.  IMO, if I had anything to do with it I'd start showing off months, not years before release; and I do realise that some of it has to do with attracting a crapload of soon-to-be customers so that when the game releases there's a pre-made cult of WAR fans ready waiting outside of EB games or gamestop to tear the store apart to get their copy of the game.

Tell me how -you- feel about these things.

Thanks. :D

They sell more copies of the game this way. Blame Capitialism

Look at it this way, at least you live in society where people make stuff for you. If you didn't, then you'de have to make the game AND wait for yourself to finish it.

as long as the date(its not made yet...) is real, not like wow, where they pushed it two month the wrong direction >.<
blizzard holds the great ability of making false release dates - with great powers, comes lots of money.

Well if they would do that, people would all be "what is this stuff WAR? never heard of it before but it should be out in like 3 months, yeah right. now look here instead, Vanguard has been in dev for 3+ years, this is surely not vaporware, forget the WAR crap"... etc etc.

Of course if ALL games would do so... but then we could not look forward with anticipation to all these great titles and as anybody that has been a child waiting for Christmas known, anticipation is, often, much sweeter than the actual gift.

In addition, i think some transparency in these previews is a good thing. You know that the game DOES exists, people have played it, there are screenies and videos all over the net. You know at what point of the cycle they are and how long it is gonna take, barring delays.

With all the vapor/crap ware around the 'net nowadays, it actually seems a given that devs, even serious ones with experience like Mythic, will try to convince you of their realities. After all, they scrapped Imperator just a year ago or so and they have to convince you and all others that WON'T be WAR's fate :D.

The solution, though, is simple. if you are annoyed by the anticipation, simply don't read about it, ignore it until a few months. Thank God, MMorpgs are still not advertised with huge signposts all around the globe.. so you have a relativly easy way to "escape" their ads. :D

On one hand, I know what you mean, it can be pretty frustrating if you're excited about a game that's a ways off.  A year isn't that bad, though, when you think about it, and it can be a good thing for the developers to get some community interaction and feedback going (Mythic is actually doing a great job in this department so far, they've been very communicative, without compromising their design goals), let word of mouth spread a bit, etc.

The wait is always easier to take when you relax, enjoy other games, and pop in to the news and fansites on the prospective game now and then to check out the dev posts, see how things are going and what new info has been talked about/released, make a few posts of your own, that sort of thing.  That's what I do, anyway.

Personally, I quite seeing the game evolve, but here's the main thing: The 'long' delay time is actually stopping me getting heavily involved in other MMORPGs in the time before WARs release. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that if another game appeared on the horizon that appealed to me as much, or more, than WAR that I wouldn't try it. Quite the contrary, if a Dune MMORPG came out, I'd be there like a shot. However, until WAR comes up I don't see the point investing the time and effort in a game I plan to either give up or put on a low back burner in the not too distant future.

My obligations as a member of the US military have forced me to take about a 13 month break from MMOs, starting last April.

Seeing the company that made my first MMO (still my favorite and if I could play right now I'd go back to it as I'm not going back to WoW) make something that looks to me like a big step forward is a plus for me, gives me something to look forward too.

To OP: I know how it feels to wait for an exciting prospect like this. The anticipation to try out the new worlds, see the new content, etc. is very strong  I would love to try out this game now, even though it's still very young... The realization though, that time has to pass for the game to be made, and that it's a full year from now,  is calming for me  As someone stated above, relaxation, playing other games and living in the world fills up the time till release. For me it's not vital that the game comes out tommorow  I enjoy some foreplay before tasting. I'll read up on the game, try to get into Beta, discuss with other about it...
Another poster said that it's capitalism to blame for such early notice, I agree fully. With competition like WoW (which might get improved till WAR comes out), Mythic is trying to make fans, get us informed about their work. Announcing early might show you something you've been waiting for, giving time to see if their game is the one for you.
In conclusion, I don't mind the early notice, it is a world of advertisments we live in

This game was meant for the tabletop players or warhammer and the mythic fans. two great things to one. and known from in company with gamesworkshops, they do this to have everyone prepared. Because those who played DAoC or the Tabletop miniatures, you know what i'm talking about ;). And they are hopeing to see who can and will be the best. BEst of luck to all. I am still decideing on what to play, debating between two places, and we will see who gets the final count of me :). and if any guilds are forming for this for either side. pleasae get in contact with me. and thanks again. and this is my opinion for this  thread :).
