So what's the deal here? Has the schedule changed considerably in HJ updates? I admit that I have always looked forward to Tuesdays, but now, I'm worried about HJ
Generally speaking when Simurtonics has something big in the works they go silent. There deffinetly not one of the most "get that info out!" sorta groups. that said they just signed a deal with Bio-ware. Id be amazed if they get much of anything out for a few weeks. Dude! You gota see the lowlands too!
For some reason new info has kind of dried up. I am still stoked about the game because I am 100% sure it will rock, but I wish they would throw us a bone or something lol.

Not sure what to say, really. Simu did just announce a pretty huge thing with HeroEngine being licensed to BioWare Austin. I know HeroEngine developments do not directly show HJ progress, but the engine has come very far (far enough to be licensed out!), and thus, HJ development continues to benefit from that.
I'm in no position to make announcements or anything, I just don't want anyone to worry. We're still trucking along.
Here's a question everyone needs to ask themselves:
Which do you like more; A game like EQII where they hype the hell out of it, send new screenshots all the time, movies appear weekly, the developers are constantly talking it up, and you get info all the time. Then whe it comes out, it sucks. Bugs beyond what you'd expect in a beta, let alone a release, broken quests, missing features, and countles little irritations. To this day they still have a lot of the launch bugs.
Or would you rather have a game where the information is a little sparse, since the devs are busy working on the game. Sure, there's pictures and movies, but not many, and we don't hear from the team too much. But when the game omes out, it's polished, most of the features are in AND working, it doesn't crash every few minutes, and it is basically fun as hell to play.
I would much rather let the Simu people work and get this thing done right than see new pics every week.

I would like a game company that managed to find a happy medium. I dont care for flase promises, but not a fan of bein in the dark either.
Not asking for constant stream of hyping and screen shots. But at least 1 official video.
Its great that a big company wants to use heroengine, it means that this game wont be using some washed up gaming engine not only that, the engine they created is so good, other companies want to use it even before the game its being created for has been released. That is very good to know, it means i havent choosen to invest my time in the wrong game.
I just would like to see an article or something saying how the progress is going. So we dont get threats like this, wondering why there are cobwebs growing on our forums.

You can't expect much information to be released while everything is still in development. Once the NDA gets lifted, they're in the home stretch and don't have to worry so much about anyone else "borrowing" their ideas. You'll see tons new screenshots, videos, and all the various websites listing all the classes and abilities will start cropping up. It's the same for nearly every group, especially one that's doing something they consider quite new for the MMO market. City of Heroes was very hush-hush about things for the two years before it came out, and it was going to be the only Superhero MMO on the market.

I think it's a function of expectations. For example, I am looking forward to Star Trek Online, but boy what a dry well of info that is. They haven't told us hardly anything about that game (of course it is in a nascent stage). I could give many other examples of games in development where information is a scarce as hen's teeth.
But traditionally HJ has not been like that. They release screenshots, give interviews, and write articles. Their Devs posted frequently on these boards. So a lot of us have gotten very excited by that. And then, all of a sudden, they practically go dark. It's more a function of the change from past practices to current ones than them falling short of what is customary.
By the way, the people who post screenshots, dole out blurbs of info, etc. are typically not the same people who are coding the game. So this false dichotemy (where if they stay in touch with the community they just have to unplug the computers and stop making the game) isn't accurate. They can do both. Lots of companies do.

Originally posted by parrotpholk Hopefully some more info will start to slowly leak out soon. Its been awhile since I last heard anything major on the game but looking forward to it either way. Least it isnt over hyped.
Although it could be said that we're feeling the effects of overhype right now. I've seen games hyped overmuch at announcement only to dwindle until beta. I remain hopeful for HJ (as a GS player for 9 years, I pretty much have to), but it's somewhat disheartening seeing such a nice slowing to a trickle.
At the moment, the gang is gearing up for the AGC (Austin Game Convention), so I'm sure that there will be more information publicized in and around that timeframe.
If ya'll are worried about work slowing down, trust me, nothing could be farther from the truth. People are working like busy little bees making some really jaw dropping environments and such.

The input impact of Hero's Engine and licensing stuff will directly impact what we are able to output.
Be assured that we are constantly working on all aspects of the game's development. A week does not go by without stuff happening. Regardless of anybody's opinion, we have the motiviation and talent (both are necessary) to do the absolute best job out there. In fact, Simutronics has been doing so for a long time, and you should expect no less.
But that expectation, and our own ideals, also mean that we WILL take the time to do it right. That's the general opinion I get from everyone involved, and matches my own.
I'd say more, but then I'd have to alert my spies and have you all killed. Sorry.

Really, what fun is it having read all lore, mechanics, and monkeyness about a game outside of said game, when you can do so inside said game as you develop your character? That's like allowing gamefaqs.com to play your games for you. Why rent somebody else's brain, when I've got a perfectly good one? That's just my opinion, I suppose.
I understand you want to understand the role before you roleplay. Trust me, I do. I'm sure we'll have some stuff for you here and there. Just don't expect a whole lot.
In short - I think you'll all love what you see, when you see it. I know I do.

Sheesh this is the first time in 2 weeks Ive check into HJ. Seems realy quite. Must be the Hero's Engine. I imagine working with Bioware takes alot of time.
