Hey guys im looking to find a GOOD Fantacy MMORPG. Since I have my own source of income now I can acutally pay to play a good game. Anyways so far Ive come down to 3 choices, World of Warcraft, Dark age of Camelot, and Everquest 2. So far I have only tried out EQ2 and it was only alright. It seemed like it might bet boring after a while, but the trial verson only covers the noob island haha. If it gets better like later on, I would probly consider it. I do like the armour and weapons they have pretty nice graphics. Second is World of Warcraft. Ive heard alot of good and bad on this game. Only thing that Im not sure about is how the armour looks. Im big on how the armour looks haha, I dont much like the huge bulky armour unless it loosk good, I do like the realistic look more than the cartoonish look. Well my last choice is Dark Age of Camelot. My friend played this and said he had fun but only for a month or so then it got old. I havent played or seen any1 play it first hand so I dont know anything about it except for lookin it up on Gamespot and all, and Gamespot gave it a very good rating.
So far this is in order what I have decided I may like better
1.) WoW
2.) DAoC
3.) EQ2
I plan on playing demos of DAoC and WoW to see how much I like them compared to eachother.
If you guys could tell me some good things and some bad things about the three and if you have any other games that would be better please tell me. Make sure its Fantacy and explain yourself.
I AM IN NEED OF A GOOD MMO CUZ IM EFFIN BORED! haha thx to all that help out!

WoW is a blast your 1st lvl 60 then the next lvl 60 on the opposing faction its pretty cool also.Working on your 3rd lvl 60 on a faction you've allready tried sucks and the game is boring instance runs over and over hoping maybe your piece you want drops.
DAoC I tried the trial basically i was alone no one was lower lvl at all
EQ2 out of the 3 choices EQ2 will keep ya busy the longest but it will also strain your pocketbook more.We all know how SoE likes to churn out expansions and adventure packs.
It's simple really if your more casual then WoW is great.More to the hardcore side I'd go EQ2

The Big MMORPG List
i say EQ2 since it has much more content then WoW.
However,if DAoC was not 5 years old i would say DAoC above those 2.
But getting into a 5 year old game is not really worth it.I say pick up EQ2 and wait till Warhammer online hits the shelves and have a look into that as it uses a similar RvR system apparently like DAoC .

To be honest you need to try them all to find the game for you,.they can all keep a player playing for more then a year, they all have good points.but you need to find whats good for you..
Guildwars is the best bang for your buc,.But it all depends on what you want..Depth? pvp? easyfun? crafting? Group fights? soloing? Good pve? Politics? level based? skill based? all six games excell in one or more,.you just need to find whats improtant to you.

I dont think I would choose eve just because its like Si-Fi, Im sure its good but I just like themedieval atomosphere more. Guidwars I dont think I would play because my friend played it and didnt like it that much because it doesnt have much replay value and its not a ture MMO from what he described it
expands the game by tremendous bounds, adding new races, lands,
Battlegrounds, professions and items, and more. Here is just a partial
list of what you can expect from the World of Warcraft expansion: Hope it hels

Well, since you've mentioned that you appreciate realistic armor and grouping but also getting a break from killing at times, I would probably suggest EQ2. The armor looks real, it has a more mature community and there's an in-depth crafting system that actually requires you pay attention to what you are doing.
I am in the same boat as you are right now being I'm not completely sold on EQ2, but I've achieved the lvl 60 Wow char and really felt the game ended there and I didn't like the cartoony armor. If you play EQ2 for three months and feel you don't like it, try Wow. You can level in no time and it's fun to reach the top level in a game at least once.
DAoC was an amazing game (probably one of the better MMORPGs) but it's dated and you'll be a noob on an already established environment where much of the low level areas have already been played and it's just not the same as when it was new. PVP is still the best in this game.
Someone earlier mentioned that all have their good points and I completely agree with that so I have included good points for each.
Izebe,
I am considering picking up an MMO to tide me over till the next gen titles release. I have played all three of those games, however not extensively. SWG was my game till you know what happened.
I can tell you to deffinately stay out of DAOC.. It's a great game and I've seen all of it.. (my friend has played since day one) but like others said it is old and set in it's ways. I just don't think you would get the full experience jumping in now. (Set commuinities, inflated economy, low lvl alts will power level past you)
That being said, we are down to WOW or EQ2...
Ive played both and they both left good and bad impressions on me,
I would say WoW is a good game because it is fast paced, bug-free, and overall an attractive game. However, you're seeming need to socialize in group play is gonna be a problem. Most people solo this game. In fact, I think soloing is a very efficient way to lvl in Wow. Thus you may be dissapointed. (I only played wow to lvl 22 before letting it go. never joined a guild either so I don't have the full experience)
EQ2 was fun. The playerbase is mostly civil (I was playing on their RP PVP server,, forgot the name) Like others said the crafting has depth and reward. And the best thing for you is there is deffinate need to group after the first 15 or so levels. I am considering coming back to the game myself. I only played my char up to about 17 or so. Again never guilded (which I hear is a must to really enjoy your time playing). EQ2 also sports player housing (if you care about that sorta thing)
While EQ2 does look more realistic I do have some gripes with the graphics. First the characters themselves look plasticy (you've seen em though so I dont need to go on) Also it may only be my opinion but the overall world seems "scaled down" This might be due to the zones but some areas in Queynos seem small. Almost as if something you see far away ends up being way too small when you actually stand near it... (not scaled right) That with zones gives me the feeling I'm playing with action figures in a toy world as opposed to immersed in a real world of epic proportion. The Oakmyst forest for example... doesn't feel like a forest but more like a constucted set for a theater production. Eh, hard to explain. Again though, might just be me.
My hope is that the world starts to "scale up" when you start venturing off beyond Queynos. Or perhaps this is just the "EQ" way worlds are designed. /shrug
EQ2 and WoW are both great games and I have played both for an extended amount of time. I won't go into a breakdown of all the pluses and minuses, personally I find the community in EQ2 to be a lot better, as well as the graphics, IF you prefer a more realistic style. It's sort of an apples to oranges comparison with WoW's graphics though since the games are not shooting at the same target. WoW's soloing and quest content is very good, plus I really like the variety of zones.
In short I don't think you can go wrong with either WoW or EQ2.
And please if anyone has anymore to add please do so I would really appriciate what you think.
Once again, thanks to all the people who helped me out! I greatly appriciate it.

Wooo grammar skills FTW!
Either way, I have played all three of these games to the intermediate level at least. They're pretty different from each other, but still the overall concept is the same.
With WoW, there are a lot of kids that play. The graphics are very cartoony and the game itself is very easy. It's like an 'intro to an MMO.' But in WoW's defence, that's what some people like. They like going into the game, going "Wow I rock tits!" and thinking all is awesome. If you like PvP, WoW has an interesting way about it. I would consider WoW's PvP to be more like a mini-game though. It's sort of a game-within-a-game. The quests are nicely laid out and it's easy to follow a straight questing path up to 60 without much diversion. Of course this makes the game feel relatively linear for me.
My experience with DAoC was relatively short. I downloaded the trail and loved it, so I purchased the Catacombs expansion. In the expansion, you could basically solo raid a dungeon that would level with you so you always got good experience. I found my self not very moved to actually quest because I thought I would be killing time. The one time that I grouped, it was some dumbass that took me to go 'hunt' crappy mobs for crappy xp in a crappy area. I was a noob and I even thought he was stupid. There aren't many people that are lower levels either unless they are on othe trial and just as inexperienced as you. But I hear that the higher level characters have tons to do and that the PvP and RvR action is top of the line. I'm considering going back to it.
EQ2 was a great idea with poor execution. The entire game feels instanced. Sure once you get out into the larger areas there isn't as much loading, but still I think it's too much. Every single area has to be loaded separately and there's no real seamless transitions from area to area that I have been able to find. The first quests are good for trying to figure out the town but become worth little xp very quickly. The world PvP on PvP servers is pretty cool, but nothing really new. I wouldn't really reccomend EQ2 at the moment, but the new expansion sounds promising.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
Of the 3 you list I would say that EQ2 is your best option. DAOC next best. I never recommend WoW to anyone. Frankly the game is shallow compared to almost any other major MMO on the market. It's incredibly easy to learn and I guess it could be fun from 1 to 60 but I look at the long term of a game. It's possible to hit 60 VERY fast in WoW if you play even remotely frequently and after 60 the game blows chunks bigtime.
Of games you didn't list I'd recommend giving both EVE and Ryzom a try. Ryzom has an unlimited free trial. It's an incredibly open ended game but you aren't going to find quests and other such things to do in it. So if you enjoy questing then Ryzom is absolutely NOT the game for you. Do not let the trial fool you. The few quests on the trial continent/island are the ONLY quests in the game.
EVE is a different animal altogether and one I recommend anyone TRY but will come right out and say that MOST who try will find it is not their type of game. But it's such a well done game that it's one that has to be experienced by anyone who considers themselves a serious MMORPG player, imo. I "like" EVE but only because it's the only TRUE sandbox left right now. RV gave it a wag but everything I have heard about that one is negative... I might give it a spin sometime but to be honest I was never that interested in it to begin with. And what I've been told by friends I trust just doesn't thrill me at all. that one can stay on the store shelf for eternity or until a really big stretch of boredom comes along
Bottom line: There are free trials for every single title you listed (and all the ones recommended by other players) Play the free trials. Get a feel for the games... And pick the one YOU like.
Just because *I* think WoW is crap doesn't mean you won't like it. Likewise even though *I* think EQ2 is the best of the 3 you listed you may hate it.
Try the trials If nothing else you save some money by playing for free for a while.

But yeah Eve is somethign to TRY jsut to take a look but for many people the gameplay is just plain boring. Eve's gameplay is quite considerably different than most run of the mill MMOs. But its completely free with no strings attached so its worth a look but the fact is no matter how good the RPG elements are the gameplay is just stone cold boring for some. Its sad that some people can't separate the two and think the rpg elements suck because they hate the gameplay but oh well.
Me, I am just tired of the WoW/EQ/DaOC same old same old classes, same old same old gamepley, cliche fantasy thing. Really I might as well play a MUD. I could probably find a free MUD with cooler RPG stuff. And those games really take no advantage of their 3D environment. I have been playing Neocron instead and am actually liking it. Since that game has pertty old graphics and is just plain clunky, I guess that shows my general enui in regards to the current state of the pounded into the ground MMO gameplay cliche that is the current market. I would be playing Eve probably but its a little to boring for me. I think its a great game but its to much of a micro Real Time Strategy game.
The only game i've seriously played of the three is WoW ... I would NOT recommend it to ANYONE ! ... i just posted a thread in some other forum ... i belive it was off topic "what happend to the burining crusade"
WoW is on its last leg it seems and the Dev's and parent company are just trying to make money now before one of the next gen's steal half their customers. You have to buy the expansion when it comes out or will be stuck and since they said they never would have an expansion cause you have to pay to play, I think this is one of the worst things an mmo company can do. But they don't care right now cause they are the biggest and more little kids play that game and they like it lol ... and their parents pay for it so they dont care. WoW is VERY shallow the crafting absolutly sucks its more like a side game then the PvP to me and realisticly has little to add. It does make potions and enchants and engineering is cool. but it doesnt seem to scale with what the game does ( at lvl 40 i was the best of the best within engineering and then you have 20 [soon to be 30] more levels with not a lot of crafting cause "you mastered that YEARS ago" ... and the armor and weapons arn't that good cause the raid gear is better ... my biggest complant with WoW ( and i have a lot of them lol ) is that the whole game is item based. Like I said in the other thread it is perfect for stupid white people and chineese gold farmers. After 60 the whole game is "Raid till your armor with a .003 drop chance drops" . And to me that makes a very one dimensional game. To me that is the biggest aspect of a game is variety in tasks to the point that i dont even want to do them all (kinda like SWG was) ... (but not forcing you to do them all lol) ... another big grip for wow for me is that they are now blending the two factions, the horde gets an alliance looking character that can do the alliance only class and the alliance gets a horde only character that can do the horde only class ... that was a big mess up in my opnion and took a lot from the game.
I do think WoW knows their time is coming up and that the next couple mmo's are going to take a lot of players from them. Warhammer and Conan both look like they will take a few ... I certainly am going to check both of those out. Although I am not big into the fantasy games ...
Eve was good but it is geared to PvP and favors Pirates so if you go into it with that perspective it can be fun.
Right now I am playing CoV and it is not very depthful but has a lot of good features and is fun for the time being. I really like it not being item based ... but no items is a little much lol ... but i really like character creation, the powers and their upgrade system, and over all it is fun, BUT i have only been playing a few weeks ...
My 3 and a half ¢
Well I was trying to put all ten options for that poll but cant go back and edit it ...
