Of all the worthless, cheap game movies Silent Hill was among the worse ones I've ever seen.
I can't believe so many reviews speaks good words about that horrible movie.
It does no justice towards Silent Hill (The game serie).
To start, on my list of reasons why, Silent Hill is a place world known and spoken of in the movie! For crist sake, they even "google" Silent Hill in the early minutes of the movie. And the cheesy line said by the employee at the gas station ... "... why you wanna go there?" Just makes me want to slap the creator just for that.
Face it, Silent Hill stands for mystificm, noone is supposed to know that the place even exists. Silent Hill finds YOU.
Everyone went totally dissapointed when Resident Evil came out. The movie of which could have been the sequal to Michael Jacksson's music video "Thriller" with all the oscar nominated zombie actors!!! The movie did not feel like resident evil on any point and even Land of the Dead was more Resident Evil than Resident Evil itself.
Then we have "DOOM"... oh crist, this is like the worst utter crap a movie screen ever had to show. Except the newer version of the movie "The Fog". Oh god I hope you haven't seen that one...
Doom has all the basic content of a standard low-budget action movie. A suited special forces team and alien like monsters. We have "the funny guy", "the crazy guy", "the die-hard guy" and so forth. All ready to rock the rink. What totally busted the concept was that IT WASEN'T EVEN DEMONS! They were failed science projects ? What the heck...?
Why do I hate Silent Hill the most then? Tell you what, it starts out pretty good, but after like 30-60 minutes it only goes totally downwards. THERE ARE RESIDENTS IN SILENT HILL! And many of them. They hide in some stupid church from "the monsters". You almost want to laugh at how bad all the actors are... and how the lines doesn't really fit in at the scenarioes of when they are said.
Witch burning... *cough* excuse me, what was that? Did you just say "witch burning?" For f*** sake! Yea you are right! They BURN WITCHES IN SILENT HILL! By the crazy preacher lady that is the leader of the exiled residents of silent hill... wow, this possible can't get any worse! or can it? Let's add some stupid stuff about some girl dreaming it all at the end! YES! You did it, you made it even worse than it possible could be!
I'm just so totally glad that Kojima said "no" when they asked if they could make a movie out of Metal Gear Solid... one man smart enough to say it.

I'm a strong Resident Evil fan and even tho the movie was good it still was a dissapointment. Labeling it "Resident Evil" might have been a huge mistake. It would have been a much better movie as a movie on it's own.
Where did we actually FEEL the resident evil "feeling" in the movie? Nowhere. Where are the characters we love? The resident we feared? And the bosses we fought?
Silent Hill isn't a scary movie at all. This is examined by professional movie reviewers. At the few times Silent Hill tries to scare you the scenarios ends right before they even reach the limit. It never feels like YOU the viewer is running from the monsters. And when they go ahead and say "let's hurry BEFORE THAT HAPPENS AGAIN" you just know something is wrong...

Perhaps, but how about the in-game videos beating the living crap out of the theatrical movies?

And then we have all the others, Resident Evil, pure crap.
But what do you watch these movies for? You've arleady played the games? Pure action-oriented entertainment but the lack of eye-candy or the excessive amount of bad cgi ruins these movies as well as trying to make them dialogue orientated which fails because the actors are fail, the directors are fail and so on.
But Silent Hill I liked, because I like to see first cloth then flesh ripped apart from naked body and the I like see lesbian police cop fight and get beaten by metal pipes and then burned, then I like hot zombie nurses, then I like hot little ghost girl gives me oh yeah fealing, then I like other stuffs.

I actually liked Silent Hill (though I could only ever watch it a couple of times), and I thought street fighter was fun.
If you wanna see bad gaming movies, just look at anything by Uwe Boll. I mean, damn, he just butchers them. Did you see "Alone in the Dark"? Yeah that's actually a gaming movie. It's actually the only movie I've ever not been able to watch the whole way though.

Hahaha xD Oh yes I forgot about Tomb Raider. What a cliché movie! :P
I believe we watch these movies no matter how much they suck because they are "game-movies". Which has been proofen completely wrong today.
How would Resident Evil have looked like it the movie was like a reconstruction of the entire original PSX adventure but with real life characters? Of course some add-ons here and there.
I have no idea what movie directors think when they take on the mission to create a movie out from a game... I bet most of them even never tried the game. They just take advantage of the genres for popularity and more viewers...

Even if you didn't like Silent Hill, it's hardly the worst game movie. Street Fighter? House of the Dead? Double Dragon? Alone in the Dark? Super Mario Bros.? My god... they are so bad they make me sick.
KillerV:
But I DO say SH is the worst.
Street Fighter is - like i said - humoristic due to it's crapiness. House of the Dead was a mess but still it had an action scene that wasen't all too horrible. Super Mario Bros was cool. Why? Since most of these movies has some sort of humor. It's like amateur home-taped humor parodies.
I'd say that the only ingredient which could save a crappy movie would be humor.
When I watched silent hill all I could think about was: More blood! C'mon more monsters! Aw shut up and get chased by slime-covered beasts! Stop CONVERSING!!!
In all Silent Hill games, whenever the characters met anyone it was hardly ever more than 1-2 people. And they all act weird. Or had some greater mystic energy around them. In the movie, they were regular citzens...

In resident evil there are:
*Pussel Solving
*Boss Battles
*Eerie feeling about your entire surrounding
*Memorable characters
*Enemies
*Intriguing storyline
So did the Resident Evil movie have this? No... It had a company name and 2 of the enemies seen in the game, well for me that´s NOT enough. For some of you it seems like an OK way to make a movie out of a game, so either you didnt play the game enough or you simply didnt like it. Did the characters in the movie not disturb you? A bunch of cocky umbrella mercenaries, this is NOT Resident Evil. I could go on for days people but let me get to the other movie i was talking about.
Silent (Yeah right, did anything shut up for more then 5 minutes?) Hill
Umm where to begin where to begin... Well let´s start with not making the movie scary at all, and let´s continue with removing everything mystic about the town, and to top that off let there be a website about said town that you find as your first link when you google it. Now this is sad, i mean this -> amount of sad.
Want me to make the same list? Ofc you do because that spares you a lot of ranting so i will make a list.
In Silent Hill there are:
*Pussel Solving
*Boss Battles
*Eerie feeling about your entire surrounding
*Memorable characters
*Enemies
*Intriguing storyline
Wait just a damn second here did he just copy that entire list? Oh for the love of everything holy how cheap is that!? Well people not cheaper then these movies okay, and besides see the resemblence between the games? Both are pussel solving survival horror games, there are no pussel solving surviving in the movies. In the movies they either run or blast things to death and laugh a bit. News flash, there are very little laughing and being cocky in the silent hill games. These are the games that scared the flesh of my bones once upon a time, i mean Resident Evil scared the living daylights out of me but these games really gave me a creepy feeling in my enitre body. This movie was not creepy nor were there any twisting story development, and let´s not mention the pussel solving haha she slit a painting that´s like it.
Both silent hill and resident evil are games where you are alone, and you feel alone. Neither of em are feelt in the movies. I know a lot of you are thinking "you whiny little bitch, so what VG-movies do you like". You really wanna know? Well okay then, Mortal Kombat...

What you guys need to understand is that certain fundamental changes have to be made to convert a game into a movie... Random puzzles and boss fights simply don't happen in movies, and if it did, it'd be ridiculous. Lets say they made a live action Final Fantasy movie. Would you expect the characters to be running along, then all of a sudden the movie screen fades out and they teleport into a turn-based fighting sequence? Hell no! If Resident Evil followed the games EXACTLY, it would have truely been a horrible movie, same goes for Silent Hill.
And yes i would have liked boss battles, seeing JILL, not some random bitch with hyper powers that can dropkick dogs, run into a room and had to fight a boss before continuing. A few pussles would have been a welcomed part of the movie. And what do you mean with " Random puzzles and boss fights simply don't happen in movies" who the sodding hell says they dont? A movie is whatever you make it, there are no rules. Damn if you are going to make a movie out of a videogame then atleast have the guts to make it like a videogame. If not then dont make it, simple. In these kinds of movies it´s never about bringing the audince a good movie, it´s about making hard cold cash. These 2 movies sucked a lot from my PoW because i loved the games. I loved resident evil so much i have beaten almost every damn re game there is, often more then once.
There are worse movies i agree the worst has to be House of the dead or Bloodrayne. So hear my cry all you film producers: DONT MAKE A MOVIE OUT OF A VIDEOGAME IF YOU DONT HAVE THE GUTS TO MAKE THE MOVIE LIKE A VIDEOGAME. Want a sorry honest opinion? I like the streetfighter movie, there you have it i have seen it a bunch of times. Because in Beat ém up games there really is no hard story, well not as deep as for example alone in the dark which is another fallen movie. Because of that you can make the movie a little more free, but not to much. MK really seemed like a movie that was true to it´s game, Street Fighter was a little bit of comedy i agree but that doesnt make it a horrible movie.
Im guessing that you Mr.Infliction are not a hardcore RE or SH fan, am i right or am i wrong?
Swiper no swiping!
HOLY CRAP!!! I forced myself to forget that movie. Thanks for bringing back such a painful memory.
DOOM was pretty bad also.
I shoot for the curve... anything above that is gravy.
Silent Hill the worst?
Sorry, that honor goes to Alone in the Dark. It's not even a contest. Might as well lock this thread now. You have your answer.

Silent Hill was an ok movie, but bad by horror genre standards. It's almost worth renting though, to see someone get their entire skin ripped off in one piece.
My vote goes to Super Mario Bros. for worst game movie though.

Dennis Hopper as Bowzer, hows that for memorable character lol.
House of the Dead kinda had this new genre of fast zombies, which made it tiny bit memorable. Movie in itself was a trainwreck.
Street fighter - there was a million different ways they could have went, and they went down the worst path.
Anyone even think that Halo is going to be good should put a gun to their heads lol.

Best thing I've read on the Internet this week. Thanks.

Yeah, gaming movies don't do so well, but in my opinion, they're not horrible.
Let's just see how they turn out in the future by looking forward to these gaming movies:
Halo
Tekken
Devil May Cry
Halo . . . .meh . . . . Let's just hope it doesn't out like Doom.
I'm not really looking forward to Tekken. The reason for this is because it's being directed by Charles Stone III. For those of you who don't know who he is, he's the guy who directed Drumline (with Nick Cannon) and Mr. 3000 (with Bernie Mac). I mean, what the hell, why did he just suddenly take on the job of directing a movie based on a fighting game?
I'm actually pretty curious to see how Devil May Cry turns out. I want to see if they can bring that kick-ass, stylish, demon hunter to the big screen in the right way.
Oh yeah, did you know that Vin Deisel might play as Hitman? Hahaha.
This siggy is CGI that my cousin made in 4 hours.
But thanks for the spoiler warning, Durahell, I'm glad to know it was all a dream at the end.
You get the Asshole Dipshit Award of the Week.
Congrats.
