This is pretty old news, the news was released back in 2005. Well, I guess if you havent heard of it before, then its new news to you.::::19:: The game doesnt have a name yet, but they are predicting for a Autumn release. <-- I doubt that will happen, because we havent heard of any new news from sony about this game.

They call it free, but you have to pay for items with real cash?  Sounds like a horrible idea...

Then again if Sony is behind it, you know we're in for a real fun game.

I guess people are so desperate for something new, anything sounds like a good idea at this point.

Actually several free mmorpgs made in Korea use this system of buying virtual items with real cash.

if several means dozens then yes, and all free mmorpgs use that system btw.

It's usually the end-game stuff, or god weapons as some mmorpgs call them.

This idea of buying your items online with free to play gameplay is a pretty good idea, but not revolutionary by any means.  Gunbound has been doing this since its release a long time ago, and Silkroad (not worth playing btw) has the same system.  Personally if a game is good I'm willing to play it, and I don't think a game being free should be its selling point.

The same here can be said about Second Life.  Entirely free to download, but you can either make your items by scripting them, or you can purchase money from the developer using a credit card.

Second Life has, roughly I would guess, 200,000 players.  But they're very happy with it, so maybe it could work from Sony.

Sony can't even get it right when they are making money, let alone when they know they aren't going to profit off of something

Correction, gunbound USED TO BE all in-game based rewards. Now they F*$)ed it up, and the game sucks donkey balls. When the game was about skill, and not cash in your pocket, it was one of the best online casual games around.

To a 3rd party I would agree with this sentence.  But to the company providing the game, sound fair to me.

I dunno if I will play or not their game, I mean, if I have to pay to be allowed to raid...LOL no thanks.  But it all depend on what it involves and what are the future plans.

It also depend on how much money the devs expect to get from buyed stuffed...I mean...I am not rich.

Maybe, I don't turn my back on this unnamed project yet, I want to know more...I am not sure if I can trust SoE on been fair or if they will always want more and more money by selling more and more and more stuff in order to maximised profits...well it sounds like SoE...sooo we will have to see.  However it will prolly be nice at start, then in time they will explode the monetary requests for buying item, it will prolly be exponential...so if this is the case I might leave quite angry if I enjoy the game before that point where I think they get too greedy...anyway, maybe I would bear it nonetheless, I can respect RL money more than someone playing a foreign gameplay such as raiding...

You have a bug in your signature, BiteFight isn't a MUD.

I don't think that Sony will create something for free... :-/

    SvD.

Not really...almost every member of this site has payed a monthly fee for a mmo..not much difference. I hate item malls and probly would never buy an item from them and would rathe just pay a monthly fee becuase it recks in game imo, the rich people in RL are the strongest and not the best skilled.

Buy a game, that is supposedly free.. then pay Real Cash for in game items? That is a terrible idea! lol.I can understand trying to eradicate or minimize farmers in games. But turning the tables and becoming the farmer in your own game? That is ridiculous lol. I personaly would never play a game were in order to advance or compete with current player base you had to purchase in game items with real money.

I suppose there are people that will do that, as there is people that do buy gold, platnium, items from some games, but from what i see that destroys a game faster that the youngsters that may annoy you with constant spam and begging and those scammers that get more enjoyment out of a scam than they do earning their own rewards.

some would argue that well any one could buy items ect for real money. Uh, yes they could if they really wanted too, but you would also have to take in condsideration that currency value varys from place to place, and some people are not going to want to spend more money on a game to buy items. I am fine with p2p games, but buying items gold, plat whatever, nah  I'll pass thanks lol. I think in the end people that play ths type of game would be paying far more than they would if they p2p and earned their rewards in game period.

Not saying people that want a game like that shouldnt have it if one like that comes out, just saying I for one would not be  a player on that type of a game.

Hahahahahahaha thats all I have to say.

When Sony makes a free MMO, George W. Bush will be the smartest man in the world.  SOE is all about money money money money and money.  Perfect example would be SWG. :P

NC Soft has a game that will be free to play to a certain level. After that you'll buy extra races, classes, levels, zones, etc. I think it will be released pretty soon (maybe q1 07). Its called micropayment system. You only pay for what you want with the game client and subscription are free to download and free to play.
