Yea I'm anxious to see how PvP will be resolved. There has been much discussion on the LOTRO forums about it. Personally I'd love the idea of hiding in some bushes with a friend or two and jumping out at a couple unlucky hobbit passersby when they get close to us.
But boooo! Spring 2007?!?! Way way to long to wait.
I love to hear about quests done with thought. Not too keen on that PVP idea but not against it either until i try it first.I couldn't give two cahoots about guild housing,as in my vast experience of online ,guilds alienate players and don't do anything to support the MMO idea.I see it all over, games offering betas to guild members so they can try to lock in vast amounts of players through bribery...pffft lame.Mounts are a given ,so i'm not so sure why they are mentioning this. What i have noticed in the present day games are that mounts are becoming a sorta niche to draw in players with no direction and the mounts are becoming far to easy to aquire.Games offer a dragon mount because they know this will draw in players that couldn't care less about anything other than to drive a dragon around, this is why i elude to a niche idea.I see some games offering mounts at level 10,IMO this is too early and just spams the whole game with mounts, nobody walks or runs anymore.
I have to admit the interview gives a promising face to the readers. One major problem i have is >>>TURBINE !
I have lost alot of trust in this company.I am not fond with anything they have done so far in ideas or gameplay. As a matter of fact ,they have ruined every title they have touched.LOTR is a major title to take on,the name itself lends to greatness,i sure hope i dont see another botch job as i saw with another great title[DnD].I don't want to see a pile of instancing or quests that are well thought out ,but SO EASY that a 10 year old kid could do them.I don't want to see arrows pointing/aiming me in the direction i have to go to finish my quest. This will deffinately be the game that helps TURBINE turn the corner or sends them into shareware, they botch this game up and i couldn't care less what they do after that.

That's a long way until the Shire was attacked by the Ruffians with Saruman and Wormtounge, where also Frodo reminded Wormtounge that he can be free so he stabbed Saruman, and Wormtounge was after shot. Anyways, this is after the Ring was destroyed, so the Shire was attacked "in one attack" after the Ring was destroyed, so it's not worth discussing.
I think the "core" of this game won't even be out for another year or more. I think Middle Earth Online without places like Rohan, Isengard, Gondor and Mordor sounds like playing in a very very long PROLOGUE before the main action...
When that main action does come, they might decide to let people play as Orcs, goblins and evil men. Then it would be a middle earth PvP game. Letting players control some lowly monsters could be just the start of what could grow into a really popular idea.
These days big IP --> need for big $$$ --> either: (1) eventual dumbing down and loss of roleplaying ability, or (2) failure to attract a player base and languishing. Well, that is my depressing thought for the day.
According to those publishing their Alpha logs on the Official site none of these worries appear to be about realities, but only fears.
It sounds as if things are living up to, or even exceeding, all positive expectations!
I have to say I am jazzed. If DDO was a sandbox where the game systems were worked out (and it would make tremendous sense if they were, then I feel liberated to anticipate and hope without the qualms I had been feeling.
The graphics on this game look just as bad as the other turbine games. I think I'll pass on this one. I've been burned way too many times by this company and I have 0 faith in their ability to create a decent mmo.

You're kidding right? All the graphics I've seen are mind-blowing! LOL! I guess out of all the possible negative comments I thought I would hear on this game, poor graphics was not one of them.

I agree with you. And it was a reason i had refused to even acknowledge this game a couple months ago.
But it seems they are begining to at least listen to some of the complaints fans had with the game. The monster PVP idea is unique and interesting. It's a start. And they've decided to include crafting too. Something they originally said they wouldn't have.
It's not everything i wanted but with the changes i'm willing to give this game a chance.

So basically it makes sense not to buy the game till they actually have a game to sell, meaning after several expansions ? lol I actually agree.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
I think this game will be great, many people are saying it's going to suck, but I don't think so. I've seen some movies, and I'm impressed. I hope it will be done in sprin or earlier.
some interesting ideas, I might give it a shot if they end up doing a free trial, but i'm just so sick off fantasy that it might deter me from being a long time player, lord of the rings or not.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
I think the game looks like its shaping up well. Soooooo looking forward to having my own toon in Middle Earth - how cool is that!
About the PvP thing. I'm not a huge fan of PvP (prefer roleplaying and crafting), in fact its fair to say that I have very little PvP experience in any MMO because it just doesn't flick my switch. However, I think any game is going to struggle to draw in players if there is not a well developed PvP system. If Turbine can build on the idea to play as a Monster, then that could work, but LotRO could be in danger of becoming a nich game for people who aren't interested in PvP. If that happens then Turbine will have their work cut out to get people who don't know the LotR Lore to play.
Not that much was said , but what was said sounded interesting. Unfortunately, it does sound like they are banking on LOTR's name. That is not a good thing. Franchised games are typically not very good. Hopefully this will be the exception.
this article is very exciting to me. i can only hope that the game lives up to the hype. with the new "monster play" i think it will provide a breath of fresh air for those who play their characters for hours at a time and just want to fight sumthin after a while. let's get this game out and on the market ASAP!!!
good review and Turbine continue to impress me with novel and exciting new ideas. For me a game should be a journey of exploration and not an Asian grind-fest so LOTRO looks to be the game for me. May go back to D&D online in the mean time!
It will survive because Turbine has done an effective job of filtering out a certian type of person from playing this game.
No sense wasting game development time, server resources, and contents on a bunch of kiddies who scream "I WANNA PLAY A DRAGGGGGONNNNN", or "Without PVP, this game can never amount to anything", or "I want to be a dwarf and kill elves", or "There's only 4 races and 7 characters... that's only 28 maximum combincations of alts to carry my phat loot" , or of course my all time favorite "They better do such and such or I'll cancel my account"
To quote, "this is going to be an MMORPG for those who love MMORPGS". What they were too polite to say, was that this is as opposed to an MMORPG for those who are just dead weight. And for those of you staring at this post thinking "what's this guy talking about", well, I'll just smile and enjoy my LOTRO without you being there

I really want this game to do well and im so hyped about it. would love to have a chr in middle earth
~21~
4 Playable Races
7 classes to choose from.
PvP in the form of some dumbed-down 'Monster Play'
No magic.
I just fail to see this as a long term contender in the MMO market
