Geez, does it take stopping the monthly updates to get some publicity?

I'm looking at www.bluesnews.com, and they've got a four paragraph news blurb at the top of the page for Wednesday Feb 18th about Dark Ages of Camelot...

It seems that DAOC will have a (gasp) free downloadable expansion that will reinvent the Realm vs Realm combat system...

And they only have to wait until Q2 2004 to get it!

Also, Mythic is 'working closely with the Dark Age of Camelot community in the development of “New Frontiers” through open beta testing and frequent communication of design philosophy, goals, specific features, and implementation to its members, inviting their comments and feedback. Mythic will continue to release detailed information on the "New Frontiers" website to ensure that fans can provide input on the design and testing process.'

Which sounds a lot like what Turbine does every month with no news coverage.

And I'm wondering...

Why is it that when some other company does something right very infrequently they get tons of news coverage, while the dev's at Turbine do the right things every month and nobody pays attention?

Marketing is a part of "game development". Even the current sadomachochist AC2 fans who still play AC2, dispite 90% of all players leaving, have lamented over how the marketing for AC2 was not much.

(IMHO the marketing faded because the game faded. Also the marketing aka the coverstory and 2 page interview, in CGM prominatly featured one of the most major game features of AC2... which 1 year later is still not in the game.)

Also, DAoC is a bona fid successfull MMORPG. Having broken the 100,000 account barrier.

DAoC has recently posted in the press they have reached the 250,000 account mark.

Marketing helps success.... success then helps marketing. DAoC absoluty, most definatly, has far, far, far, far, far, more than 2,000 players online at the same time playing heheh.

AC2 started with marketing just as major as everyone else. But it could not "show the customers the money" aka support what was advertised (false advertising rears its ugly head). It's marketing then went downhill, along with its chance for success. No marketing to help success..... and 1 year later no success to help market the game.

I personally blame parent compay MicroCrap...errr... MicroSoft for messing up AC2. It is pathetic when a multi-Billion $$$$ parent company penny pinches.

Lol Xploror. You prove to me each day over and over again what an idiot you are. ::::02::

    What makes you an idiot:
    - You haven't played AC2 for 9 months and you stiil think you are an expert in commenting AC2.
    - You post same facts in at least 2 topics each day.
    - You always post that players are leaving the game while they are actually coming back to AC2.
    - You're saying the game is dead but actually it has by far the most new content added every month.
    - You're posting about 'financial success' and nobody (except developers) really cares if the game is 'financial success'
    - After 9 months of not playing AC2 you're still addicted to game and can't leave this forum ::::02:: What happened? Parents found a new place to hide their credit cards? ::::02::

I know; I shouldn't be calling ppl names on forums. And I haven't been so far although I've met some really dumb ppl. But you outclass them all ::::20::

    Hell, was AC2 every marketed?

I only knew about it from being a player on AC. I mean, I really don't think I heard much of anything about it.

    Sad really image

If there can be only one, then I am that one.

Once again you resort to name-calling. When and where have I ever called you names? Why do you keep calling me names?

    What makes you an idiot:

You obviously missed the tons of times I've posted about how my ingame experience PLUS the ingame experience of current players, among other things, is what I use. And it has been 7 1/2 months since I've last played. image Since summertime 2003. AC2 came out by December 2002. I played a solid 6 months, ending in June. Why do you keep skewing the number over and over?

    - You post same facts in at least 2 topics each day.

You dear sir, are 100% correct! I do so post the same f-a-c-t-s over and over. Because those facts keep needing to be used by me over and over as evidence on AC2 being a flop. And of how much of a flop it is.

    - You always post that players are leaving the game while they are actually coming back to AC2.

Soooo many players have already LEFT that what else is there left to happen? LOL.

1 new player joining means nothing LOL. 1,000 new players mean nothing. When AC2 reaches 50,000 accounts THEN it is something worth mentioning and thinking about. If/when AC2 ever comes close, or further than reaching 100,000 accounts then it is party time - as it will then be a bona fid success.

    - You're saying the game is dead but actually it has by far the most new content added every month.

Then why does AC2 have such horribly low amounts of players playing? Is it because... the game is a flop?

Why is AC2 getting its A-- kicked around by OLD MMORPGs? Is it because it is... a flop?

    - You're posting about 'financial success' and nobody (except developers) really cares if the game is 'financial success'

Your opinion. If you want to stick with a sinking ship, it is your choice. The majority of players know that a game that is NOT financially successfull will and can have its plug pulled anytime aka at anymoment all their irreplaceable time invested into the game will be for nothing.

There you go again, trying to call me names and make fun of me. While I have never called you names or made fun of you. What does that mean? image
