LOTRO "Monster Combat"

LOTRO "Monster Combat"... Good idea for a PvP solution? I think it sounds promising, but seeing as how its Turbine developing the game, I have my doubts from the start. What does everyone else think?

I think it's an interesting approach, and very good idea considering that having "elves shooting hobbits in the back of the head" as they put it would completely go against the whole basis of LotR.  I thought this game would really suffer, as I didn't see a logical way of introducing pvp prior to this, and for the most part modern mmo's need to include pvp if they wish to prosper.

I have my doubts though as well.  It seems that anyone who plays a "monster" would be disadvantaged against normal players, as I don't see how they will be on equal level with players without instituting a completely seperate class/skill system for the monsters.  Plus, it's Turbine, so who knows.

It's a good question. I've been playing as a monster a good bit in Minions of Mirth, and on the PVP server there you can also attack players, but in MoM there is a whole level/skill/class system for monsters, so it seems to work okay. I'm not sure if LOTRO will be taking the same approach or something different.

well, there are criminals in all groups, why not  have them become outlaws and unable to enter friendly cities etc.

Oh yes, instead of making a faction PvP, good vs evil (something that world of Tolkien offers a perfect setting), they give us mini-games.

Well, after them raping D&D I'm not really all that surprised.

Underlight did a nice job with this sort of setup.  Players could pay an extra fee and be able to play a what was essentially a player-controlled monster.

    It's a solid idea, IMHO.

    THEY'VE PINCHED MY IDEA

I created a topic months and months ago about how it would be a good idea to allow players to login as Mobs for short periods.

I've a good mind to demand a free copy/sub to LotRO as payment

Then again .... after the abysmal mess they made of D&D I might not bother

After they made DDO into a non-explorable world, and only a city, I don't have much faith in Turbine. They also went back on what they said by turning DDO into a Group only/Non-PvP game into and Solo and group w/ PvP game.

Who's to say they won't cave on things with LOTRO when enough people start shouting?
