Get your ideas heard?

Im talking about seriouse gaming ideas. If you were dead seriouse about something, that you thought would sell, how would you get your ideas heard? How would you go up to a company and propose your idea. Im talking about the works here, the story, the extras, the gameplay.... everything.

How many times have you had a great idea but no way to share it with a real CORPORATION. Im asking for a way.

I suppose the best way would be to apply and get a job at the right sort of company.  Once employed, offer up your suggestions.  If they're good enough, and it really is the right job for you in the right company, I'm sure they'll be well recieved.  Other than trying to express them by email or snail mail, I don't know.   When you use mail, you always run the risk of it not getting to the right person.  If you're not someone who could work for a development team due to a lack of the proper skills, I suppose their official forum would pretty much be the only avenue.

I thought about that, emails... its a risky thing. I mean sending all your ideas to this company over the web. They could just screw you over and take your ideas. And as for working in the company... I've got no programming skills or anything. Just simply the creative type.

And if there are no new ideas, has anyone ever tried doing this? What exactly did you do? And how did it go for you?

You don't. Every gamer and their dog has a good idea.

The only way to be heard is to get into the industry some other way (programming, graphix, writer, etc.) and get to know people in the industry and present them.

    good idea is subjective

they make mmorpgs for average ppl ..who can pay

or do u think blizz or whatever else with big budget cant hire someone with real good ideas ?

I think the statemnt that everyone has good ideas is obviously flawed. If that was true most games that come out wouldn't suck so bad.  The problem is probably that everyone thinks their ideas are good.

It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

  • Welcome spawn!

Signes' got it right...from here on out the only change that will occure in the MMOG genre will be from the inside. Developers already have tons and tons of excellent game ideas...what they don't have and desperately need is people with god-given talent that has been honed to meet the needs of the gaming industry.

My advice to you is to drop the "I've got this killer idea for a MMOG" fantasy and hit the books!

There is, obviously, a massive shortage of talented artists in the gaming industry...so if you're an artist with any talent at all you'll be guarantied a really good paying job.

The arts there... the ideas there.... the will to go knocking on a door is there... my question was if there is some kind of hearing aid there. Guess not...

Anyone know a good book on the subject of game design?

No, the problem is that everyone has at least one good idea but:
    1. They try to mix them where they don't work.
    2. The people with money tell them what to do too much. It all revolves around money. That and people who think they know what they are doing but really don't.

Run, don't walk, to the art school nearest to you! You'll need to be proficient in freehand drawing, painting, composition, and of course 3D modeling/rendering/animation software suites...and it wouldn't hurt to know a little bit about sculpture as well.

In terms of books, there are many, a pretty good place to begin your search would be the Gamedev and Devmaster websites.

Edit: I forgot Gamasutra...check out the education section down towards the bottom of the page. They have a list of all the schools that offer game design courses.

    Don't tell him that!

What's he going to do if he doesn't make it into the HIGHLY competitive world of Game Design? Be a teacher? What the hell can you do with an art degree? Nothing. Trust me, I'm talented and I read up on all that you can do with an art degree. For every job out there (besides teacher) there are 100 QUALIFIED applicants.

Well, even if he doesn't make it into the game design industry, he'll certainly meet people who share the same interests and possibly an interest in other artistic endeavours.  And, at 17, he can do nothing but grow, right?  If he's talented and already seriously interested in something, I should think that it would be a good experience and who knows where it could land him later on.

I have to say, however, that many times an art degree lands you a spot in the unemployment line... just in front of those with the history degrees.  My poor sister is a professional artist and has had a bit of recognition for her work and has won shows and had pieces hung in galleries, etc., but, at the end of the day, she had to work in other fields very often to make ends meet.  Once she's dead, however... the money will roll in!

PS Art majors are EASY, too!

A good idea, may be a good idea every day.  Ideas are a dime a dozen. Your suggestion is good.

I wish they make my idea that i have made, I like to make some good games but some of the people disagree with most of my ideas. One of my idea is what i wish was made, which is something like a mix of planetside, savage, and civilization IV together.

In this game, you be able to play in one of 4 nations that have been made from the president of that nation, 4 people can become president, and to become president, you need to become governer and let people elect you as president after that current president is impeached or lost the election. The President allow people to become governers if they are skilled in politics and controlling a town. You cannot make cities till a governer make's one.

The gameplay of this game is try to destory all 4 nations, or win the space race. The president have the ability to select which research to research so that players can use that research, The technology tree is very long, very long enough to continue researching without stoping. There will be different ages to advance for each nation, and different things.

Now enough of the president options and technology tree talk, let's talk about the players abilitys.
The players who are not governers nor president can do many things, he can employ to jobs like tailoring, weaponsmithing, and other things as well. Players can acquire resources so that it be transfer to the research intitute to use it for research. Players can become researchers as well to speed up the research to earn that technology for other players to use.

Every nations starts at the dawn of man, and continue to advance till they reach the right age to be able to make a space ship and launch it to win the space race. The game must last at least 10 hours, people can log on and off at the game. Each map must be planet size map, and must be able to at least make 10 towns, and each server can hold up to 5000 people per nation (20,000 people per server).

The game will be fun and must be balance and lag free for people. The graphics must be at least lineage 2 graphics or around that. oh, and the game must be mod able cause i want this game to be creative to make new races to play in that nation, and other modable things. That way people can play as a cheese race, the Pig races, the zerg race, almost anything that the players can make. Each nation must have a unique look then looking like the samn, and each nation need to have a different race.

Most of these people will enjoy playing a game like this cause of the creativity and free-form of things you can do instead of fighting a huge army.

Well i can tell you ,from my experiences in the best game ever made>>>>>UNREALTOURNAMENT !

this game early on offered a huge contest, called" making something unreal"I am not sure if they still do this with every new engine release but it is an awesome way to be seen and get money .You can take any idea from weapons to mapping to mods whatever idea comes in your head. The drawback of course is your knowledge in C++ and graphic programsthe more knowledge the better, and just getting used to the way unreal code works. There were tons of ideas ,some only using a handfull of people to litterally design a whole new game or mod sorta speak. There were a number of people hired just because there ideas were well liked by companies.

So my answer would be to grab a game that releases it's game engine for free to users to try and make anything they like. You can then have your mod or idea linked to an unreal site[or whatever game] or fileplanet is the largest file carrier in the world. You would also have to frequent the game site/forums to try and get other skilled people to help with your idea.

If your idea pans out, then whatever site example>>PLANETUNREAL,will most certain post positive reviews on your product and then it's all up to luck.Over all gaming sites are not your answer, you need to look at individual sites and frequent there mod/mapping forums.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Here is a good US strategy: If you have a serious original game idea, write it all out. lore and gameplay and everything and copyright it. Then when someone else has the idea about the game and its a huge success sue them for copyright infringement. It would work if you and company were in the US and you were in it for money or recognition.

Or know the right people would be a good start, ie. connections. As to how to actually get your idea heard would be difficult without knowing the right people. If you don't care for credit/money and know noone then posting it in a forum or email would be fine as you have a slight chance of someone important reading it. Everyone has ideas though, so learning how to sell them is tough. Why do people spend so much time learning about advertising and still create ads that flop?

One option is to see if there is a contest or entry form where they ask for ideas and what not. If not, I'm out of ideas.
