New player advice.

I just recently bought the dark age of camelot epic edition and had a few questions.  First off what would be a good server for my friend and I to start on?  What about realms and classes, we sorta want to do melee dps classes.   Where would be the best place to go to meet people and maybe group or whatever, I mean what is the big hang out on each server?  Is there anything that we really need to know?  We are no stranger to mmo's in general, we have just heard so much about DAOC that we figured we would try it out finally.  Should we roll on one of the servers that doesn't have TOA enabled?  Is the leveling group oriented like the original EQ and FFXI or is it like wow .  We realize that it's going to be hard to get groups at this point in the game but we accept that and still want to try.

Also regarding pvp, I realize that it's mostly RvR, how exatcly does that work?  Is it like large zones that are only meant for RvR?   What about world pvp is it set up sorta like eq2 or what?  Anyway sorry for all the questions and thanks for looking, any help will be great.

There are 44 classes and a new one coming out in a few months, so that is hard to say.  Midgard, in general, is the "melee" realm.  Although you will find high dps melee classes in all 3 realms.

RvR is done in two areas: battlegrounds and the Frontiers.  Battlegrounds are level range specific and start at level 1 and end at level 49.  Frontiers is a huge zone that  all 3 realms share.  You go out there to kill enemy players and siege keeps/towers.  While you can go out to the Frontiers at any level, 99.9% of those out there are level 50.

Leveling is quick and easy.  You can solo, some classes do it better than others.  Most people tend to solo/duo on the regular servers until high levels.  On Gareth you will find people wanting to group more and at lower levels.  If you are into grouping, then you should get into a good guild.  At this point in the game, soloing or grouping takes almost the same amount of time if you do the right quests.

You mentioned Gareth, I noticed that it is a classic server.  I know that classic means that it disables TOA, what would be the purpose of disabling it exactly?  Thanks so much for the reply.

ToA was designed to provide players with new types of equipments and Master Levels, which will give your character 2 new abilities once you finish all the 10 levels.

It is not essential to the game, and I`m not sure what is the purpose of disabling it. My opinion is that hardcore players with all the artifacts and Master levels make it very dificult for the casual players with no such items and abilities to survive in the frontiers.

    Cheers
