I knew there was a use for that 750GB Seagate HD. Maybe they'll have some sort of package deal where you get VG bundled together with a new HD.  And here I thought I was crazy for having a 23 gig MS Flightsim 2004 installation

I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Looks like something is going wrong with you. You should have stopped at around 20,1 GB.

    Yes.

    Recommended system requirements:

SOE and Sigil recommend that the users buys a new harddrive each time a expansion is released. To be able to manage the free content updates another new harddrive is recommended every 6 months.

Wow, some people are really oblivious to obvious things....the game take so much space because it is the largest (seriously) mmo ever. Unlike SWG, it actually has all the content to fill that space. Try reading some and looking up some pictures sometime. I'll post how much space it takes in a few.

I'm fairly confident that the final product wont be near 20gig, and if it is......that is crazy lol

It will likely be closer to 25 or even 30 gigs when released. EQ is currently taking up nearly 5 gigs and the game is seven and a half years old.

No it can't be that. I think it's currently so big because most of the artwork isn't compressed, atleast I hope that is the reason. If they leave it like this the system requirements are going to be insane.
And to be honest none of the textures are looking so great that it justifies double/tripple the size of a next generation game. EQ2 is around 6.5 gb if I'm not wrong, and the graphics there aren't to bad either.

And big filesizes isn't a great thing with mmo's. First of all content patches, they will take long to download if you have a slower connection and it will really fill up your harddrive.

Expansions. If they release the game 30 gb big you will have to have a single hd dedicated to Vanguard if you are going to buy expansions.

Just another reason I prefer not to be in the beta yet. My hats really off to those of you who do participate in the beta though. Personally, I prefer to wait for the launch, when most of the kinks have been worked out and I can sit back and enjoy. There seems to be a few trolls that think that point should have occurred in beta one, and are frustrated enough to post here. I am considering the server load test just prior to launch though.

Whats the download method - bittorrent I hope as thats the only one I can set to only download during off peak times as 20GB would blow out my monthly download limit!

I've not used that, is it just a run to the end thing or can it be interrupted and continued or better yet set to a schedule?

I can be resumed yes, but I have had some trouble with that. I had some trouble with that in EQ2, so after that I download everything in 1 go everytime I play a SOE game. But I think resuming usually works good.

Setting it to a schedule is not possible. This isn't a download accelerator, it's "within" the game.

That was the reason why it went 30+ GB. It got canceled once and that's why it messed up.

Not really. Most of the 20 gb is all graphics stuff. Filesize of a game has as good as nothing, to do with how much content a game has.
