Well you see, after playing almost EVERY major/popular mmorpg on the market I refuse to buy/play another one at release that I don't first get to test and make up my mind on while helping to shape the game for release. I am not spending $50 plus again to be utterly disappointed. So if I don't get into the LoTRO beta you can bet I won't be playing it at release. I'm not going to spend $50 again on another disappointment. Remember this is the same company that released an expansion for AC2 and then right after that shut the game down. I'll choose to spend my cash on games that I have some kind of notion of before-hand.
Were we supposed to get a second e-mail after we confirmed, that had our beta key in it? Because I didn't get that one, and some guy on the LOTRO forum was saying that the beta had not started yet, and just hang on to the key. I was assuming the key would be e-mailed when the beta started.

I really hope they draw me for a redraw...I want to play in this game. If not I am going to have to find a way to work there. Hell I was an early tester for DDO and Asheron's Call 1 and 2...I should be automatically in!

It costs money but they actually have it. Too many are the number of MMO's that have done crappy jobs beta testing and not paid attention to what limited feedback they HAVE received. I agree though, there are too many testers that actually never test but blow through the game to either get an advantage when it goes live or play to get through the game so they don't have to pay for it. I for one, am a beta tester...I have beta tested every MMO that Turbine has put together and hope they have not forgotten it. I had over 200 bugs reported for AC1, 220 for AC2 (could have been worse had they not already been reported), and 70+ for DDO. I wish people would respect the beta process because it is a very important piece of ensuring that a game is tested and that the people who would play the game have a voice early when things can be changed.
Now if only THEY listened well. Turbine has with AC but was not too fast on DDO.
Are they actually dolling out keys? I would doubt that as I am sure they are just getting the list of names. I know they were doing early family and friends beta testing.
A publisher is important but it does not make a game. I have seen plenty of good intentioned major publishers screw up (to be gentle in the term) a very good MMO. Look at Horizons, that game had alot of potential, but Atari did not invest enough cash into it. I have also seen little publishers do better, remember Mythic was a nobody when they released DAOC. Publisher's are important but it is more important that they have a good solid foundation and well thought out set of features. Usually they go hand in hand but maybe before they get a publisher they should get a better plan. I am sure that MEO will be fine as it has been on the development and design block before WoW was.
I hope they don't redraw.. cause I never receieved emails to either inbox with the verification/confirmation code to claim my spot nor have I heard back from support. This could be an issue with others still in the "pending" status.

Actually my odds of winning cotests in this site is not bad.. I entered like 4 contests and won 2 of them. Too bad I didnt claim my 1st one.
Sure there are 400k members.. but not all are active and even less actually signed up for the the contest.
