Why the EMU will fail...

A poster on this forum has the following offesive signature:
"Hello. Im an SWGEmu dev, and I demand your respect because I am
providing a service to you. You should respect us the same way we
respect LucasArts and SoE. One of our former developers ran off with
all of our donations, and unfortunately we can no longer support the
project until you donate more money."
Respect is earned by what you deliver, not by what you promise to deliver.... did you learn nothing from from SOE?
I personally won't give the EMU a dime until the so called devs earn my respect.

The Devs over at DnL said it best- (paraphrase) Its the players fault- all the pressure.
The players demand respect from the devs then they demand it back..oh its a circle of horrible destruction.

With all the people against that project, you don't think it's possible that someone just used their name and started acting like an asshole? That just doesn't sound like something he'd say. They're not "providing a service", and they've never claimed to be. We already respect him and he's shown that he respects the community (excluding the nutjobs and the idiots).
I mean, one day he demands respect from people on an MMO site, and the next he goes and posts on the emu blog that's he's intimidated by people's devotion to the project? And then he goes and makes a comment like, "a few other people use the name Audune, and thats to be expected, but none of them are quite like me =3"? Plus, if he had a huge problem with the people at MMORPG.com not respecting them, I think he would have mentioned it somewhere on the emu site or the blog.
Plus, they don't need to come here to beg for our respect. Thousands of people already love them for what they're doing.

After a rumor started circulating, a bunch of forum jocks started spamming nonsense all over the forums. While they were killed off pretty soon elsewhere, too many threads were here that lasted too long.
In order to curb the whole situation, one of the emu crew did indeed try to put a lid on everything here, which just resulted in more flames due to somewhat inapropriate aproach. At the end of that day, the first page here was plastered with flames, insults, fakes, rumors and lots of general nonsense.
The end result of that was the second sticky you can see on top.

as far the emu goes.... the project doesn't look to healthy atm.
i'd like to see the project suceed though...

I agree. I'm sure it's not an easy project, but seriously from all I can tell they have succeeded in making the client think it is talking to a real server enough to not shut down. They've added a few items to inventory and figured out how all that works, and you can build a new character. The database schema seems a few pounds light as well.
I just have my doubts that they have all the necessary packet captures for the specific release of the client they are coding for. Which means they will have to resort to recent sniffs and then guessing at the differences, not a comforting thought. I hope I am wrong.
