I am just on the trial. So far i really like SWG, but on this board there seems to be alot lot of negative talk about the game. I really need to get off the beginner area, but again with all this negative talk i am i a doubt about buying this game.
Can anyone help me here ? Is the game worth buying ?

My opinion is no, it is not worth buying, but your a new player and should try it for yourself. I loath what SWG has become, I loath SOE's horrid customer service, I loath the way they treat long time customers, but if you like the trial, then try the game out.
Worse comes to worse your out what, 30-40 bucks?
--When you resubscribe to SWG, an 18 yearold Stripper finds Jesus, gives up stripping, and moves with a rolex reverend to Hawaii.
--In MMORPG's l007 is the opiate of the masses.
--The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence!
--CCP could cut off an Eve player's fun bits, and that player would say that it was good CCP did that.
Well, what did you like most about the trial? The combat? Professions? Quests?
Is SWG your first MMO? If not, what do you look for in an MMO?
IMO, if you enjoyed the trial then you'll probably enjoy the rest of the game. If this is your first time playing SWG and have no fond memories of the style of play the game used to have then many of the main issues people here have with the game are not going to be much of an issue for you as a new player.

I am not new to the MMO style, what i like in the trial is the SW theme - the feeling of being in the SW universe is nice. I also like the combat, the sound, the gfx.

I want pre-CU back
Station.com : We got your game
Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
I hate the game as it currently stands, and nothing would please me more than to help turn away one more person from paying them until they right their wrongs, but...
You really should try the game for yourself if you are enjoying it. Most of the people here that hate the game, myself included, are poisoned by the knowledge that the game was once much better. I hung around for a few months since their last massive overhaul, and at times it got better, and other times it got worse, but overall it was improving. But only after the revamp destroyed a really cool MMORPG system based on skills and not levels.
Just be aware that this is the third incarnation of SWG and we may not have seen the last "revamp". The first revamp destroyed entire classes by rendering their skillset and ingame property useless. The second revamp got rid of 20+ professions altogether, and all freedom of choice regarding skills.
They have just now given a lesser amount of skill choosing freedom back with something called the expertise system. Slowly but surely parts of the old game are reintroduced, but the new features are merely shadows of the original features that were wiped out in the so-called "upgrade". Expertise is no substitute for the pure free choices we had in the old system.
So remember, the hatred here is more about the past than the present. But also remember that the past is an excellent predictor of the future as well. Buyer beware.
I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever
Still, there is better mmos out there i think you should look for.
Starwars Galaxies, An Empier Diveded, That's what it says on my box anyway.

EVE is a good game if you don't mind living in a space ship and never stepping out . Wow is a popular game among fantasy loving fans as well as EQ2 . But if fantasy isn't your thing Star wars and EVE are the only two options .

But just because I think it is that awfull doesn't mean you might not like it. Like a few have said give it a go if you liked the trial that much (I'd recommend you be a jedi, nearly everyone else in it is). Just don't pay more then a month at a time, you never know when SoE will completely change the gameplay to try and appeal to someone else.

oh and whoever said the population is just as large should bang their head on their desk....its a shadow of what it once was.and with only 1 hub being eisley its still no where to what the population was 10 months ago. eisley is now considered packed when you have more then 10 people there.
You have my condolences............
No seriously, the rest of the game is nothing like the beginner trial. If you purchase the game, you have nothing to look forward to but misery and heartache followed by eternal bitterness. Enjoy.....

Do you like to go back and fourth alot? go here, kill them, come back, deliver this, now come back, okay go here now.
Do you like to see ghost towns and desolate star ports? Do you like to see completly useless items and useless proffesions?
Do you like to pay premium prices for beta testing software that may completly change again in 6 months?
if you answer YES to these questions then, go for it
Do this -- go to the real SOE boards. Avoid us here then make your own call, but here is what you DO NOT DO to investigate this game and its history.
DO NOT go looking for gaming awards, you will not like that, DO NOT go looking for great player feedback on thier own forums, DO NOT go looking up gaming reviews, investment reports, interviews, game sales from gaming stores, promotions from LEC or SOE, DO NOT go looking for any info on the game AT ALL.. in fact, just go in it and never look at any text written about the game.
Then let the game do it's work on you once you get in and going.
lol

This is good advice, I wish I could follow it and see if the NGE fits on me. But unfortunately im stricken with a terminal disease; knowledge of Pre-CU.

The professions aren't balanced. It'll probably be a year before they are. The most popular server, Bria, is empty. You'll only see people outside the starport at the starting city. If you're a combat class you're pretty much forced into doing the Legacy Quests. It's the same "drive 4km, click on four objects, come back, talk to me, go back, kill 14 terrorists, then kill 9 commandos, then kill 11 pirates, then come back for your reward" formula from start to finish.
Just a level grind until 90, then you PvP. But, there's no penalties, so the PvP's not gonna hold you for long. The story's not worth reading. Most of the players seem pissed off about something. The communty's divided over everything. Most of the time I couldn't even get other players to talk to me. I'd be at a mission site, they'd walk up, send me an invite, we'd kill stuff, they'd disband and drive off.
There's just not all that much to do. I think about logging in and I can see how my next hour will go. I'll do the Legacy Quests, I'll get half a level, I'll get bored and log off.
The game offers a day of entertainment at most. Three tops.

In regards to the OP's question, I offer this simple statement to help you in making your decision....
"THERE'S A REASON THEY DON'T LET YOU OFF THE NOOB TUTORIAL SPACE STATION DURING THE FREE TRIAL."
"Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now.
We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"
You must remember that what people are complaining about is the change is style of play which they are used to.
Now that does not mean the new style will not fit certain players and surely it does and it seems to fit you .
So if I was you i would buy the game because it fits you .
this is actually sound advice. try it out for a month. If you like it, then play it. But don't expect to see a lot of people while you play. The servers are quite empty these days...
And also know this. I forget which gamer magazine it is (PC Gamer or Computer Gamer Monthly?) but SWG won the Coaster of the Year award....twice. Only game in it's history to ever win this award twice. Keep that in mind...

Well, to be more honest... if your looking for a popualted game.. then no, if you like to solo then yes, if you like bugs that are just stupid and horrid then yes, if you do not like to read, then yes, if you like a easy game then yes, if you do not like goals in game then yes and last but not least... odds are you want Jedi..
Yes the NGE could be for you lol.
But whatever you do, please do not think it is a well polished game with great standings... with anyone.
I rather be honest about it and then say, if you do not beleive me... just read if you must.
I guess try to set your standards real real low, then think of a old MMO type game you enjoyed... then think worse.
This way you may really enjoy it lol.

well its not as full as the old days but certainly not a ghost town like many try to make it look like.Heck it has more subs then many of the mmorpg out there.
