So was it me or did everyone agree Archlord was shit?
Well I downloaded the closed beta of archlord from fileplanet expecting
good things. I set graphics to 1600x1200 and turn everything up, then i
start the game. First i go to make my character, first thing i notice
is that its very restrictive. If i wanna be a mage I HAVE to be a
female, if I want to play as the elves once again, I HAVE to be female.
Turn out men can only be knights and archers, thats right guys we just
arent cut out for anything else apparently. Oh and the entire elf race
is female which kinda makes you wonder where there babies come from.
Well after getting over this and making it in game I look around.
Hmmm... I think to myself, these graphics sure arent very good. Then i try
moving. Big mistake, turns out my walking animation is glitched so i
glide across the ground. As I walk around a bit i see it is a pretty
common problem. So I go out of town since I didnt see anything else to
do and i fight some wurms. Ding level 2 pretty quick. I head back into
town and this time i find the guy who gives out the first quests. So I
bang out a few quests hit level 3 and come back to town for another
quest. I should note that throughout this whole time combat is very
glitchy; I have no attack animation so I kind of stand there and see
the other guy get hurt and my guy just stands there. Apparently I use
psychic attack....
And before you say anything, yes I understand this is beta and there will be glitches.
So
I found the combat system to be very boring, gliding around the
landscape I found the entire game to be boring in fact. Back to the
quest though, I'm told I have to run and talk to a guard about
something. So I go to where the guards are at the gate and none of them
seem to be the one. I go west where he is supposed to be and whaddya
know I find nothing. Well not nothing, on the way there are more lost
and randomly roaming players like me. At this point I thought about it
and realized
-the graphics arent good, but not bad.
-the gameplay is glitchy and awful boring.
-Im really not having fun.
-Customization is extremely limited.
-Why the hell am I playing it again?
So
I quit and immediately uninstall. So after a very boring unentertaining
gameplay session I consider the game garbage and won't ever play it
again. I go to the hype page and found another person who had left a
comment agreeing with my sentiments. So I leave my comment and move on
to better games (FEAR multiplayer) One last note is that the music for
this game is very good, i thought it was the best part in fact.

And your rant about race restrictions is funny because if you ever actually took the time to seek any info at all about this game, you would have known about them. They've been known since about March and it's been said over and over again on various forums.
1: to fix the glitch, all you had to do was relog
2: You will find more customization later on as you level up. there is an npc for that, you would have known that if you played longer then 30 minutes
3: gender restriction is for technical reasons. gameplaye over eye candy.
4: you reached what..lvl 4~5? so that means you have learned ONE skill. that really isn't enough to judge the combat.
5: have fun in WoW.
6: No, not everybody thinks this game is shit. most people who play the game are having a great time. this game really is for the hardcore player. if your not prepared to put a lot of time in the game, then forget it, this is not the right game for you. if you already judge the game in the very limited ammount of time you played, I doubt the game was ever meant to be for you anyway.
How long did you play.... 5-10 minutes ?
If you want to see a really crappy Game...go play Dark & light...or at least read their Forum.
There is a reason there are the race class restrictions. It's in the lore. I know that many people think that all you have to do is sign in, pick a class (and to some that means picking a class that pwns) and then have at it.
However, whether one agrees on the lore decisions, it is nice that there are still games out there that do follow some sort of "world", some sort of "lore" some sort or reason that things are the way they are.
Now, having said that, I can't completely disagree with the things you are saying though I think you also aren't realizing that this is beta. Heck, all the quests are being rewritten as we speak so that they are more to the story.
but the graphics are "ok". I actually went to one of the larger elven cities and the art design was very nice.
Still, this is supposed to be a korean grind PvP game. It's not really posing as a next generation mmorpg.
I do think some people would like this. I do think that it lacks a little bit of depth but we shall see what retail brings.
However, these games (korean grinders) are made the way they are for a reason. One being that there isn't a huge amount of customization due to extremely large battles.
There are some graet things like the idea that no two characters will be exactly alike in their skills or skill power (well.. maybe that's going a bit far but you can opt to specialize in certain skills or opt not to take certain ones) and the weapon customization is really interesting.
I'm sure there will be more to it. I'm curious, what mmo's did you come from? that might be the reason you don't get this type of game. - S

if you actually read the post I just made, then you see there is nothing flaming or trolling about it.I did not insult the op, I made valid points. ironic is, that the only one trolling and flaming right now is you.
why I reply to people who complain here that the game is crap? just for the simple fact that:
1: People judge it after what..1 day of playing? You don´t experience even the tip of the iceberg in the first day of playing. in fact, it takes quite a number of weeks before the game really starts. as the op couldnt even figure out that all you had to do to fix the bug is relog, I doubt he played longer then a few hours.
2: People already speak of a bug filled game when its in BETA.
Now if all you one-day players like yourself could all just either
1: Play the game for a number of weeks so that you actually have any idea what your talking about
2: get out of this section, and leave discussion to people who actually PLAYED the game.

so, can anyone tell me how long its been available over seas in retail?

1) Classes locked into gender. Sorry, I like playing female characters. I don't like playing boys, I am a woman and I would like to play the class with gender that I like.
2) Even WITH the Image Designers, I found that character customization was VERY VERY limited. I mean when you go to the Elven starting city EVERYone and I mean EVERYONE looks alike, even the higher level characters.
3) The controls for movement were quite primitive, I never truely felt that I was in total control of my character.
4) Crafting seemed to be limited in what you could do at lower levels, It seemed that I had to wait till I ground my level up to be able to choose crafting.
5) Where's the storyline? Even in EQI there were low level quests that let you know what was going on in the world.
6) Pet peeve with Asian import MMO's. I hate that the Elves look either like little 11year old girls or like slutty hookers. The Human woman model (the Mage) looked pretty nice, but of course still have the MicroMini skirt on. There are more and more women playing MMOs because of the Social networking part of the game, who stay for the fun of kicking ass. It would be nice to see companies try and cater to us a bit more.
Over all the game feels like cheap Diablo II rip off that is set up as an MMO. I don't really see any thing here that will bring me to purchase the game/subscribe to it.
Some good things: (AKA things that I actually liked about the game)
1) Nice looking character models. I really appreciate that the Artists tried to make the models look a bit more realistic and not so cartoony. Also armor looked very good on the models. I had the game turned up to highest quality and I liked the way the models looked
2) Quests were easy to find, Quest objects were also easy to find and the Turn in NPCs all easy to find. MiniMap functionality was probably the best part of the game. It made the frustrating to use controls almost barable. (though the Interminable FedEx quests became kind of tiring)
3) at least at the lower levels that I played (up to lvl 10), the characters gained levels quickly and after 5th level it seemed that new abilities/powers/Spells came pretty quickly.
I know that the "True Believers" will probably flame me for daring to point out design flaws with their "perfect Game".
Some Annoying things that I know will be fixed before release
1) Fit explanation text into their text boxes. It was really annoying to see a bitty box for text that had explanation info gushing out of the bottom with no way to scroll down to read said text.
I do expect to be flamed for daring to question the game. Excuses by the "true believers" of the game will be set forth. I will probably be told to go play WoW or something.
That's fine because that's exactly what I will be doing with my money. I'll be paying Blizzard to play more in their admitedly flawed, but not quite as annoying MMO. I agree with the person on the Hype meter that said that Asian games really don't work well for an American audience. I have to agree in this case.

No, seriously, this game is so bad its HORRIBAD.
No customization, 2006 and the game looks like its GAME of the year 1999.
Its just another korean mmo grindfest.

At the current stage of the game i'd give it a 6.5, the game potential is there but if Codemasters don't step it up a notch this game is going to be a big flop (but from looking at the communication between CM and beta testers so far is been pretty much 0 or close to it i guess that's not going to happen). I think the biggest issues for me is the crazy grind, i played Lineage 2 for 2 years and this game beats it.
I was really looking forward to this game, but i guess i'll skip this one and wait for 9Dragons.

iam old , i played mud games befor then i had lots of mu expirence..that was something new and i could sleep and play which in my extremly limited time was quite usefulll

I played the game and reached the good content. you didn't. on top of that, I can debate without trowing out insults, and I speak from experience. you seem to love to throw around insults, and you don't really seem to talk out of experience either. your opinion should not be taken serious. just face it, this game is not for you.the game is great for those who its been made for, and that obviously isn't you. you are not the target audience. so stop trolling around.
Overall I'm having a blast. After lvl 20 it gets alot more fun and you actually start to get skills.
For those interested in PvP, building guilds, sieges, server domination and doing all types of evil and cruel things to people you dislike then this might be the game for you.
P.S. Please don't review any more games after 5 minutes of play.
Grind isn't even close to L2. I hit 22 in 3 days on a human mage using only the gear and gold I got from drops. I run a combo of grinding and questing and play in a duo or trio whenever I can. In L2 my first character took me 2 weeks to hit 14 using only the gear and gold that I got from drops. I could have gone higher if I'd taken gear offered by people already in the game, but I wanted to test it from the start.
Of course there are 100 levels to this and the grind appears to be exponential each level. Which could get old real fast with only 1 skill point per level and no easy way to reset skills.
I slowed down after that, but if I did hard core grinding, I'd bump up to 30 within a few more days. Instead I'm traveling the world, doing every single quest, trying out cooking, alchemy etc... oh and getting PvP'd all over the place and occassionally ganked.
Not too excited about bug response. There are a few show stoppers still in the game and too many little ones to count. I do see some progress however.
Well Im playing the close beta, its look like RF online, i didn't like much. Could be better.
Lineage 2 is better than RF online and Archlord together.

Anyhow.. Lv 20 can be done on day 1 in Archlord, lv 30 can be done in 3 days.
i didnt like it so much, the screenshots seemed to make it look a lot better but it kinda plays like a free korean mmo. now i love their idea with having the best known and most powerful player in the game as the archlord, but didnt get far enough in or read enough to figure out exactly how that worked out.
Actually, I must say that this game actually has a chance of being good. Hopefully, they are planning on implementing the graphics from the screenshots into the actual game. They also need to fine tune the WASD controls, polish up the GUI, and fix a few minor annoyances such as no /sit button. I have only reached level four, so that's all I've ran into so far.
