Yes it has PvP but it is in the form of GvG one of the greatest systems I have ever seen (8 years playing and testing) here is just a small part of it guild a can declare war on guild b if guild b accepts then the war starts right then, but should guild b not acept then guild b has 7 days to get ready and find friends before guild a can bring it on. I also wanted to talk about UOX I know alot of people are looking for the old days of UO but you will not find it in UOX as upon release there will be no mounts, housing, or crafting. there is no choice of what side to be on you have to play the role of good, one of the things that made UO great was everything was about choice be the good noble knight, be the lowly theif, be the dark minion of evil, it was all up to you. UOX takes that all away from you. I was in the Beta for UO and I played for just over 6 years till the game died for me (tremmel killed it) what amde it a great game was the uncontroled ablity for socitys to interact and poilice them selves. Rysom will give that and more to us. be karven if you feel like being evil and if you want to hug trees save the world its up to you.
...in the end there was no Good and Evil only living and dead...

one more thing, I am currently playing horizons and it also is a box I love to RP and find very little of it in horizons most are only there to lvl and make silver few are there to interact

Originally posted by mobettah I do not know, man. Have you tried Horizons? That is some kick booty role playing...especially if you like dragons. There are so many options, that you certainly do not get bored... But I am looking forward to Ultima X: Odyssey most of all...role playing, IMHO, is only as good as the communication interface that facilitates the game. UX:O, from all of the August 2003 reviews and recent leaks. The looting chests are kinda cool too...
wow.. Horizons.. what a failure.. I bought it, played for 3 days and tried to return it to Best-Buy.. damn copywright laws.. What a waist of 50 bucks. The games only seller is "you can be a DRAGON!" (Wooden Sign): Steel This Way! (Other Wooden Sign): Copper That Way! Psh..
sorry, aside from that, TSoR does look DAMN DELICIOUS I must say.. I've applied for the Beta Hope I get in!
Someone asked a little bit ago if player could own houses and if there would be mounts, the answer on both is yes. The mounts I have seen in the SS and movies have been something that looks like a cross between a camel and a elephant. I would agree on the Horizons issue for the most part, I feel it had awesome potential that AE just keeps wasting. I still play buy the world is dieing.

Thanks again for the info Lord Ara. I hope that their is mounted combat in addition to there being mounts. I also hope that players are able to build cities etc...ala Shadowbane. Ryzom sounds very very promising. I hope that I will be picked to beta test.
-Within 6 months of the initial release, and on a 6 monthly basis thereafter, Nevrax plan to launch the first major upgrade. This upgrade will contain new land maps, new creatures, a new playable race and a set of new player activities. Ryzom being a skill based game, the addition of new skills and associated actions is absolutely possible. All players will have access to the new content without having to abandon their existing characters in which they have invested their game time so far. The new skills and actions will give access to new branches of content, opening up the possibilities for different types of gameplay, opening up the game experience to an ever-increasing market.
The action sets for the existing skill trees will be extended, as will the skill trees themselves, allowing players to progress further than they had done previously. The upgrades should require about as much play time, in order to reach the end of the character progression, as the initial release.
-In the pipeline the Nevrax team has begun to plan out the second planet in the Ryzom Saga. The second planet will take the form of a complete product in its own right. This said, an in-game bridge will exist between the two worlds allowing players who have bought the two games to migrate their characters from one world to the other.
The second planet will have a significantly different gameplay focus. The characters will, however be compatible from one world to the other, due to the modular nature of the Ryzom skill and action systems.
-As players progress in the game they must choose a side with both the benefits and disadvantages that either choice entails. The rivalry surfaces in the form of opposing tasks and quests that pit players and player guilds against each other. Atys is a hostile place filled with shifting dangers. The giant insect-like Kitins strive to wipe out humankind whom they consider as their natural enemy. Between the Kitins and the propagation of the Goo (a virus gnawing away at the planet), the player civilizations have constant work on their hands to defend their lands and to drive off invasions. On Atys it is not uncommon for whole villages to be overrun by invading Kitins or deranged Goo-infected creatures.
-The guild system is designed to encourage guilds to recruit players of similar levels and to grow to a size that is sufficient for tackling the larger game challenges of their level.
Guilds that are very large will not be able to offer the same advantages to all of their members as smaller guilds, giving new players the incentive to create their own guilds and discover the complete spectrum of guild missions and challenges rather than joining a huge guild that has already finished with a large part of the game.
-The major motivation behind high level players of role playing games tends to be the pursuit of glory and status. Ryzom's story development and title systems provide an exhilarating set of targets to aim for. Characters who gain certain exceptional titles are spoken of by their civilizations' NPCs, have their names added to the ledger of 'heroes of the civilization'. Only the heroes are eligible for the storyline missions which allow players to uncover the history of Ryzom and its secrets. The official 'history of Ryzom' will be extended as the heroes uncover its secrets. Each chapter of history will be stamped with the name of the character who uncovered it, leaving a permanent and public trace of their achievements.
-Unlike any other existing massively multiplayer role playing game, Ryzom offers a truly dynamic game environment. If a game character in Ryzom warns of an imminent invasion it is because the risk of an invasion is absolutely real. The balance of power shifts between the bandits and native tribes, the Kitins and the Goo. The various populations fluctuate and spread with time and in function of player behaviour. The townsfolk, tribesmen and outpost inhabitants give news of the evolution in their areas and dispatch missions in response. Player actions have not only a short term impact but also a longer term impact on their environments. While the enemies killed off in player offensives will re-spawn after a while, their defeats are counted and taken into account by the dynamic population engine. Constant pressure over time on one particular population group will result in a shift of the balance of power in the region and the emergence of new play challenges from other groups. A second layer of dynamism is built on the cycles of nature. The game character behaviours and raw material deposit contents fluctuate in function of the season, the time of day and the weather conditions. This layer of dynamism is of particular interest in its impact on the availability of interesting raw materials that are in constant demand for crafting.
-Ryzom is not a role-free game. Player characters identify themselves in terms of the titles that they have earned which, in turn, define the roles that they are apt to hold within a player group. Titles are earned automatically in function of the skills that the characters progress, the actions that they learn, the characteristic scores that they develop and the knowledge that they amass. Titles provide players with objectives to aim at, achievements to flaunt and criteria for evaluating the value of potential team mates.
-As the guilds progress and gain in status so the challenges that they are faced with increase in difficulty. The reward for prevailing in these challenges can be great, giving the guild members access to new spells and actions, new missions and outposts and even, eventually, giving the guild its very own land map on which it can setup buildings and a permanent home.
-Ryzom introduces the notion of 'guild missions' in which any or all of the guild members can participate. Missions can range from taking on some punctual challenge in a remote land map to large volume supply missions, in the main maps, or even wrestling control of an outpost from a tribe and defending it from attack for a couple of weeks.
-The game also provides a set of interfaces and other tools for facilitating the coordination of guild events and the running of the guild. All guilds have a headquarters apartment within one of the towns or villages of their civilization. This apartment can serve as a bank for both the 'shared' possessions of the guild and for the private possessions of its members. The guild apartment also serves as a meeting place and the place in which the guild's own instructor NPCs can be found. All guilds also have dedicated forums that can be consulted by guild members at any time in game and that can be accessed using a standard web browser (and the player's login and password).

Recieved E-Mail I was accepted into Beta and disks were being sent out. Havent recieved anything yet . Know nothing about this game and hope going in without expectations will help have an objective view . who knows
thanks to this post i went looking at this one and WOW !! this game looks to be all that every other MMORPG is trying to be. I'm gonna keep a close eye on this one and hope to get into beta. thanks for the post, because without it i wouldnt have given this one a second look.
Sure SoR have a great chance to be one of the best MMORPGs this year...
It's the french touch, you can see on pictures, for all old folks as me, the screenshoot remind me those good games from Cryo and before, Ere Informatique (don't know what is their name for the US market)
I'm right now in the beta... just waiting about my CD
I just cancelled my subscription to Horizons as are quite a few others. All servers are "light" with a few that hit "moderate" on occasion.
This game had great potential, actively squelches naming violators on the roleplay enforced servers, a moving storyline that involves the interaction of the community, but the game-play itself is killing it.
Lag is pronounced even for people with hot systems. I get about 72 fps (frames per second)in other games. In Horizon's I'd get from 25 down to 8 measly fps in a town. EIGHT? And the lag isn't due to superior graphics. NPC's and PC are all grey and blocky until their skin loads on, again, even for people with superior systems. There are no facial emotes, in fact there are few emotes at all. Spell graphics are no more spectacular than any other game, and I have seven mmorpgs on my desk to compare this one to.
I totally think ryzom is gonna be a sick game. I really wish i were in beta for that, but i might end up buying the game anynways. I looked at wow and it looks a hell of a lot related to every other big mmorpg that came out, ,everquest and DAoC. Too typical.

Do players build the buildings in Ryzom? And can the be destroyed? Is their mounted combat?
These are yet more question I could not find. Thanks for the information above Lord_Ara.
This game looks more and more promising the more I look into it.
