On player-housing? It's just game footage with noise over it?
Still, it shows my point. I kept telling people that I saw the game at E3 and it had terrible animations and didn't look anything like the screenshots. This shows that really clearly. . . Maybe the build they were using for the demo just has really low resolutions to make sure there aren't any problems while running it at the show or something. Obviously from the screenshots the game CAN look really pretty. It's just weird that they are showing it at tradeshows with such low resolution.
Also, if you look at the combat, the animations are all messed up and weird. It's like looking at old games like DAoC and EQ where the animations were often out-of-sync with the text messages and you often pull off a move that makes no sense because the mob is off on the other side of the room all of a sudden. God, I hope they got someone better than the EQ, SWG, EQ 2 AI people. For whatever reason, the mobs in those games have ALWAYS been out-of-sync and messed up.
OKAY, 2 minutes in now and I see what you are talking about. It is about housing. Owning a tavern is pretty freaking sweet. I hope this is fully thought out and integrated. If they can come up with non-conflict gameplay that actually is balanced and works with the world (and isn't boring) then they'll pick up a lot of people that seek this type of immersive gameplay.
I did however enjoy the ships skating around on the water like Gumby, Being able to stop on a dime and turn like a speed boat though.
In all seriousness, I just wish they would fix the damn combat animations. Make the game smooth and relatively lag free, and I will give it a shot...but not a second sooner.

HOLP CRAPZ BATMAN! I can't wait to open my own shop! Tho I do agree that animation is sucky a bit but I'm sure they will polish it before relise.
Ever since I left SWG I'm looking for next MMO that will allow me to run my own buisness and to be usefull to other players. This could be it. I really hope this game turns out ok. I never plyed EQ but I do enjoy bit more complex games.
Every time I read your post, I die a little inside...
It is interesting that they kept talking about housing as compared to SWG, perhaps someone had asked a question in reference to SWG. One big thing someone pointed out here was that in SWG you could place a house in the open wherever you wanted as long as the terrain would allow it and there wasn't already city controlling that land. There was just a crazy freedom in that game for housing. Yes, the in-house manipulation appears to be superior to SWG, but I kind of dislike the fact that you're stuck to a lot. I understand the lot allowing only certain structure types, probably limited to the space around the house, so that's all good.
The textures looked horrible. Every shot I see of this game, be it the in-game combat video, or this one, the art just looks very rough. Hopefully they clean this up before release, but I doubt it.

What video were you watching. . . he very clearly showed off that the housing is set in the world, but that they put in certain plots so that the world won't turn into the urban sprawl we saw in SWG and UO.
It will probalby still suck though. You'll have to travel further because the content will be separated by suburbs. Personally, I'd prefer instanced. . . If they add in world PvP and allow people to destroy villages, etc., then having them non-instanced will really bite because they'll all be destroyed by uber guilds that bring 100+ players on and can't be stopped.
Yes it looks pretty nice to have the availability of housing. What more would you want in a virtual world? Having chests with 100 slots each .. sound very nice to me!!

Yes that's a bit concerning. Most screenshots and movies don't look very sharp, crips or like most new games. Shadows are clearly not incorporated either, or mostly turned off in most screenies/videos. I just hope that it will be improved, perhaps the settings are just turned low because they're still working, improving upon the enigine.
