Remember, Dark and Light sounded real good too. So, just keep in mind reguardless of how good something sounds unless it proves itself in beta words aren't binding. IMO most people are here because DAoC was/is an awsome game and had/has the best(most accepted) PvP system in a 2nd/3rd generation MMO. People are hoping Mythic will repeat itself. Heck people have been begging... and begging Mthyic to create a DAoC2. Many people see this as that game.
So, I guess the personal opinon would be stuff like WoW done right. PvP done right. A PvE/PvP game done right. *shrugs*

Although aside from that, most other specific parts of the game are still rumours and speculation.

Features... we hope Sanya Thomas continues as the community manager for WAR too. Best CM EVER. Sanya
I think of the WoW CMs - then I cry and vomit. Yes, in that order.
Currently playing: Eve, DAOC, Warhammer
Games I've beaten: AC, AO, CoH, DAOC, D&D, EQ, EQ2, FFXI, FlyFF, GW, Horizons, L2, Ryzom, Shadowbane, SpaceCowboy, SWG, UO, WoW
Stay away from: Eudemons Online, DNL, and Roma Victor
here are the features that, in my opinion, will make this game great:
- Warhammer setting
- lateral advancement favoring PvP from the first days without too much fear of encountering unbeatable juggernauts that can kill hundred newbies with one swing of their epic sword
- cool skill and class system
- seamless world
- integrated pvp and pve gameplay. you always are near one or the other
- Nice ideas for PvE quests (public quests available to everybody in the area, competitive quests rushing to heal more dwarves before the enemy kill them and so on)
- PvP seems the central focus of the game and not tacked on as last minute idea, there are many types of PvP and all are fundamental to the overall Campaign, conquer towers and keeps in the battlefields all around the world, take control of regions with various effects (from a mere banner flying on the conquered villages to spawning of special NPCs and special quests and stuff), engage in hundreds of different instanced scenarios, balanced with a point system in which each player is worthy a certain number of points. disparity are handled by adding Npcs Dogs of War mercenaries up to the missing point values.
- You CAN CONQUER THE ENEMY CAPITAL, SACK IT, RAZE IT AND BRING BACK THEIR KING/EMPEROR/WHATEVER IN CHAINS FOR THE AMUSEMENT OF YOUR OWN CITIZEN
- Warhammer setting
Hope it helps, you can find lots of info in the official site (www.warhammeronline.com) and also at this fan site www.warhammeralliance.com
Have a nice day
"If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for a lifetime"
also heard they would reduce grinding to the smallest amount, so you wont see 5000 farmers running around with bots :P
i do not only find the farmer part good, also the keeping grinding to the minimum as a very cool part.
If mythic makes the game they are suggesting they are... and has a fairly clean beta and near flawless launch I prosmise you all this game will go CRAZY.
If beta unplayable and launch has hours of downtime or seems to be an incomplete game, fovergiveness will hard to come by.
I wish Mythic all the luck in the world.

If you've never played one before, then I recommend you look for a free trial for one of those games to get a grasp on the basics. From what I've seen of WAR thus far, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft and Dark Age of Camelot share the most similar combat systems out of the more popular MMOs today.
To compare it to FF7, I guess I would have to say you need to picture Cloud fighting an enemy group by himself, but instead of going through various sub-menus, you'd have your basic (weak) attack - called auto-attack, then your magic would be skills that do just about all your real damage to the enemy that have a variety efefcts (heals, buffs and debuffs, damaging skills, etc.). There's also a morale bar in WAR that works similar to overdrives, except in WAR there are four stages of powers, each more powerful than the last and if you don't fight, the bar will drop.
I'm not the best at describing things, so I hope my explanation was somewhat helpful, but I definitely think you should try one of the afformetioned games first to see if you like the genre. I especially recommend the DAoC trial because you can get it off of MMORPG.com and the developers for WAR are the same as the ones for DAoC.
