What I want. Maybe someone can help.

Hello.

I'm new to the MMORPG forums. So I'm not too knowledgeable on everything.

But I was curious if someone could point me in a direction.

I got a new PC finally (old PC was incapable of playing anything above FFXI on minimum settings), so I'm trying to get my hand into PC gaming.

But anyways, I'm looking for a upcoming MMO. One that isn't released yet (so I can start with everyone else, no getting into the game 1 - 2 years after everyone else).

I played FFXI. I liked it, because it was really group based, and it had a very large population at all times.
I also played Guild Wars, and I did not like how you started a group, left a main area, and you and your group mates were the only ones in the area until you went back to main area.

But here's the main things I'm worried about and what I was looking for:

- A game that does not require, at any point, any PVP. I'm a big PVE and grouping fan.
- A game that doesn't stick you and your group mates in an area alone (I.E. - Guild Wars. I thought this type of gameplay had a term attached to it, but I can't remember it.)
- A game that is on land (Unlike Star Trek Online, Star Wars Galaxies, etc. etc.)

Hmm, that's basically my only two concerns. I lost interest in Guild Wars due to the above reason. I stopped playing FFXI due to me joining late, and that fact that I got into gameplay very, very late and it's kind of discouraging asking players with 5 Level 75's how long it took them to get to where they are, and getting a response like "2 years of grinding. Another bunch of months for all the crafting skills.

I tried looking for myself, but I'd usually read a bunch of good stuff, then get to the producers website and see something like "PVP plays a major role in this game".

I saw Tabula Rasa. That looks like my best bet for now, but I'm trying to keep an open mind.

Any guidance is appreciated.
Thank you!

I recommend Vanguard to you. its not released yet (I'm not sure what the release date is, I believe Q1 of 2007). it has everything you asked for. another title to look out for is Lord of the rings online.

    good luck!

I agree with Game, both sound like they fit what your looking for.

Yeah. I'm not a huge Vanguard fanboy or anything, but Vanguard seems like the game your looking for.

Another Carebear has been born!  :)  (That was a joke)

Vanguard is pretty much FORCED grouping, same with D&D... well, all the Carebears cried loud and made solo play.

A NON PVP server in AoC might fit the bill, you wont have to PvP unless you step into the border zones, which on a non pvp server wont take up much room. There will be a heck of a lot of PvE content to suit you, especially if you join a guild in defending their resources from the NPC hordes

I'd say Everquest 2. I was not a huge fan of it because I enjoy PvP, but last I checked there is no PvP whatsoever. And if you are in to roleplaying, it's a big thing on some servers... like RP ones.

The modern MMORPG is simply not worthy, of the acronym RPG. The straight grind and lack of atmosphere leave me with no choice. From this day forth, World of Warcraft, Everquest 2, and all the games like them shall be referred to as PIGCRAP. People In Guilds Constantly Raiding And Power-leveling

You must of checked like 3 years ago.  There's TONS of PvP in EQ2 now.

Ha, I didn't expect the mass response so fast.

So, Vanguard. I will definitely check it out.

Also, what do you think of Tabula Rasa? I noticed it was kind of MMORPG with FPS taste, but I was worried that it would be more FPS-ey (if that's a term )

EQ2 - too late for me. I remember when I tried to run that... on a Dell... Dimension 3000 with 512 MB of RAM and a ATi Radeon 9250. But I'd like to join something that isn't released yet.

    Thanks again!

  • Welcome to the boards Akkrobat!

I think Tabula Rasa is very heavily instanced...like 50% of the world.

But It sure does look good! I'll be checking it out myself...I'm jonesin' for a good Sci-Fi MMOG and it looks like my best bet as well.

EDIT: Huxley might be ok...I can't seem to get any info on it though.
