World of StarCraft?

PibblePibble Member Posts: 285
I haven't really heard the rumours, only a little bit... But maybe some of you guys have heard about World of StarCraft? I think it should be a really cool game, but it needs alot of updates, like WoW, then Blizzard need very much new crew members... I hope they make WoS sometime, or StarCraft 2.

Yeah i think Worlds of Starcraft would be a great universe to explore
as an MMO. I am more then sure Blizzard is either considering this or
is working on this. Either way we wont hear about if for a few years.
World of Warcraft is a huge success, and is still very competitive with
whats out there at the moment. As time goes on and WoW starts to show
its age Blizzard will need to release a new MMO. Since MMOs make the
most sense from a creative and a business point of view. Now blizzard
can either make WoW2, Diablo as an MMO or explore Starcraft and it
seems the trend sof MMOs are now starting to move to a more futuristic
approach rather then the classic medieval approach. So it looks like
Starcraft would make the most sense. However i wouldnt count on seeing
or hearing about any such project for awhile. I do think Blizzard will
release Starcraft 2. Which will in turn set up Worlds of Starcraft.
Which is was we saw happen with WC3 with WoW.

It will be very interesting to see what blizzard decides to do. i think
something like this makes the most sense. only time will tell, and i
know there will be millions waiting.

Blizzard is very busy with WoW, the game really need updates, or they will lose players. But like you said, they need to create a new one, the graphics of WoW are weak, however The Burning Crusade shall update this a little bit too, and they should add some new elements, but those elements need to be very new, so I think it's smarter to create a whole new game then.

Any new StarCraft game RTS or MMO would be very good, but heck I am still not tired of my old StarCrafts. They are just that good. I still play LAN games and Internet Games with my friends, I have lost count of how many times I have beat the Single Player.

that would sound neat to have a mmorpg of Starcraft...but im pretty sure it wouldnt be called World of Starcraft...that makes no sense.

Ofcourse it does! You have Warcraft, StarCraft, World of Warcraft and World of StarCraft is fitting perfect in that list, don't you think?

And about StarCraft, it's still very popular online, those Korean guys are unbeatable at the WCG! If StarCraft 2 is released, all the Korean gamers will buy it, I think the same shall happen with World of StarCraft, pretty weird that 3 Warcrafts are released and only one StarCraft...

How about Worlds of starcraft. that would make perfect sense ;)

They could also create World of Diablo, however, Diablo already is a kinda' RPG, but then you can add some new elements...

There was a leaked article about making Diablo and Starcraft MMOs, however Blizzard
    denied this.

However, if I was Vendi, and WoW had turned around my financial bottom line, I'd force Blizzard to crank out both as some kind of subscription based multiplayer game. Who is to say that you couldn't have a D3 or Starcraft2, that would cost $5/month for online play? Having Battlenet free isn't a good business model.  Of course the real money is in MMOs and $15/month adds up.

D3 is in the works, or has been for years from what I've read. Expect Blizzard to release at least one Non MMO game after the hype from BC dies down. I think  that  Diablo and Starcraft  has so much life (and millions of dollars/euros, etc) left for  Blizzard to abandon them .

Starcraft Ghost was already abandoned, and should have been out by now.

Paying each month, well-known at MMOs, but I think Guild Wars have changed that, the game is popular, one of the reasons is NO monthly payment, I think many other MMOs shall do the same...

Just to keep the rumor going.  Maybe this has something to do with Starcraft Ghost not being released.

World of Starcraft.....not gonna happen. Blizzard has to focus on WoW and not some new mmorpg.
  • griff66griff66 Member Posts: 51

If they do it wont be for a long time.... i think diablo 3 and warcraft 4 would be before that.

I don't know that Blizzard has the man power to sustain two MMORPG's...one of which having 6 million subscribers and the other of which would surely be a massive mega success.

But we can dream..I always enjoyed Starcraft more than I enjyoed Warcraft.  The universe has much more creativity and potential, and it was always so much more compelling than anything Warcraft could do.

Pluss, it wasn't a fantasy game!!  Seriously though, I think the only thing stopping Blizzard from making a world of starcraft is manpower and resources, do you realize how many people are currently working on WoW? maintaining hundreds of servers for one game is difficult enough(and they were on shakey ground for awhile but it's improving)  Imagine doubling that work load.  They would of course make massive amounts of money and could technically DO IT...I just don't know if they want to take something that massive on.

On to what I would expect from the game though:

You have three playable races, zerg terran and protoss.  The zerg that you play as in the game are the minions of Kerrigan, not the overmind.  The overmind is the ultimate baddie in the game, much like Arthas is in Warcraft(warcraft 3 copied starcraft's plot really)  Throughout the game you will of course fight all manner of evil, or good, depending on your perspective.  The classes available to the races would be:

    Terran:

engineer-All players will have the opportunity to take part in the engineering class, it is a built in subdivison of each class, as certain missions require extended travel or the additional firepower of a vehicle, with various sub sets that become available to the player as you level, no single branch is all powerfull, but rather suitable for different styles of play.

Engineer subsets- At certain levels the player would gain acess to new expertises in engineering and piloting, These expertises would be changable, but on a one week cooldown, no changing every 5 minutes, once a player chooses his expertise his avatar will be able to "summon" his vehicle. for example:

Goliath Pilot: This support unit is valued for its all around balanced stats, good health, armor, and damage output make the goliath suitable for those players who do not wish to overdo it with any single stat.

Vulture: High damage but very vulnerable to enemy fire, for the glass cannon lovers

Siege Tank: decent damage, and very high hitpoints...able to withstand much punishment, for once the term "tank" literally applies to a tank in an MMO.

High level subsets- At higher levels, all Terran players will be able to take control of  a wraith for exploration purposes, the wraith is a solid fighter in its own right.

Wraith: A good all around fighter, all high ranking Terran are trained in the basic use of the wraith for navigational purposes.((this is really a balance issue, I felt that all players should have access to some sort of flying vehicle like a wraith in order to make it more fun for the player))

Battlecruiser: These mighty ships are only commanded in certain areas of the game and only for certain tasks...no player will ever be constantly in the game world with a battlecruiser, These are, however some of the most powerfull behemoths in the game and only the highest ranking players will have access to them.

    Terran Infantry:

Marine- your standard marine, good balance of stats, various abilities which enhance combat stats

Medic- your healer types, these are the brave men and women who give the infantry that extra two seconds of life expectancy on the battlefield

Firebat- A close range fighter capable of dealing massive amounts of burst damage, firebats are generous amounts of health but have the disadvantage of only fighting close range

Science Officer- These are the support units for the Terran infantry, with various medicines and stims that greatly enhance the effectiveness of the Terran infantry, science officers can also deal some damage when the situation calls for it.

I'll add to this tomorow, it's very late...I have some ideas for zerg and protoss mechanics as well, but tell me what you think :)

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

I don't think Blizzard would create a game to compete with itself, especially with someting as insanely popular as WoW.  Besides, they've been working on Starcraft Ghost forever, and it honestly doesn't look like it'll ever come out.  I just don't think Blizzard is that interested in another game when they're making insane profits off of WoW.

it's coming out and it's called "The Burning Crusade".

Well, a couple of my friends told me the game will be a RTS, and not a MMO. If this is true, it will be awsome.

Because if you look at it from a business sense...they couldn't possibly lose money by doing it.  The Starcraft fans MIGHT quit WoW to go for Starcraft, but they will be paying for another box for 50$ in addition to the monthly subscription fee...so by competing with themself, they are actually making more money...pluss those people that are sick of WoW might give it a try, or those of us who can't stomache another fantasy game.  It's a no lose situation for blizzard if they can manage to organize the man power.

I think Starcaft should be left alone in the MMO area. It had a chance to do it, but the mighty World of Warcraft that they have been pampering forever got that spot. If Starcraft were to come back, id much rather see in the sequel to Starcraft.........Starcraft 2. The RTS is what makes this game so awesome, with its multiplayer. Its been around longer then any MMO so far, thats just crazy!

  • PibblePibble Member Posts: 285
Yeah, but I also think that Blizzard has seen what they can do with MMOs, they will create another, when WoW is old.
