BattleTech MMORPG goes into Beta 1 (ISWARS)

ElnatorElnator Member Posts: 6,077

People ask about BattleTech MMORPG's pretty frequently so I figured I'd let folks know that ISWARS just went into "Closed" Beta 1.  It's open to the BattleTech community (Forum members) but the developers have said it's technically still in 'closed beta/alpha' stages so don't expect a bug free experience.

ISWARS is a game modelled after MPBT Solaris and MPBT 3025 over the internet.

For more information:  http://www.iswars.com

Needless to say those of us in the BattleTech community have been watching this one for a long time.

Enjoy!

Thank you sir. I've actually always thought it would be awesome with a battletech mmo. I've been looking for that for quite some time now.

    Thanks for link.

Just thought I'd give this a quick bump.  It's the only bump I'll do but figured I'd give folks a 2nd chance to find out in case they missed it before it fell off Page 1.  I know BattleTech has a much smaller fanbase than it used to but figured it's worth bumping so anyone who missed it when I posted it would appreciate the 'encore'.

    Enjoy!

Yes! If they put the Thunderbolt in as a driveable mech, I am there.

I played BattleTech since the days it was called "Battledroids". Long before the copyrighted image snafu and Phoenixs, and Crusaders and whatnot were still in!

I was playing the last iteration of the Online game when they went tuts up and gave up on it. I was sad :(

    Thanks for the find, El

Well, you know how you feel when you wait for an MMO to come out and when it does you feel like you've paid to play it's beta test for another 6-9 months before anything even thinks of working the way it should? Being a network engineer you feel that way about anything Microsoft puts out."

Mmmm! With this and the Mechwarrior 5 game going to come out on the PS3. It seems this is going to be a good year/time for Battletech.::::22::

    Woa! A Battletech MMO?!

    AWESOME!!

I think I was one of the last to play the pen and paper version with miniatures back in 2001 when I was stationed in Korea.

We had 14 hour sessions....cigarette smoke in the room....beer...laughs...I loved playing BT with the boys.

I had no idea there was an MMO in the works.

I will keep an eye on this one.

    Thanks for the post.

Just to get you up to date and a bit more understanding into ISW.

Inner Sphere Wars(ISW) is not an expansion persay, it is an interface. It is used along side MW4 but can be used through BK as well (with MW4 patch created by ISW Devs.)

ISW is a collaboration of BattleTech fans from all over who have yearned for the planet capture style we've read in source books and novels. Mostly Gamestorm & AOL MPBT and IS3025 vets.

At the moment, ISW (Inner Sphere Wars) is close to implementing Planet Capture using the ISW interface. This client allows for each House to control/regulate logistics, mech production, resource allocation, jumpship movements, tactical deployments, and to maintain a roster of pilots for that House as well as; promotions, awards, unit assisgnments, and a salary.

There is also an arena for dueling on Solaris. Comstar being the neutral faction and the developers of ISW only maintain 3 planets; Terra, Outreach, and Solaris.

ISW provides an Inner Sphere map so you can view the success or failure of each House pertaining to planetary control which is decided through MW 4 for the combat simulation. It is set along the timeline of the Third Succession Wars.

As for pay to play, it hasnt been decided if a subscription charge for ISW will be required. It is in the Beta stage. The charges wouldn't be for MW 4, it would be for the ISW. The individuals that produced ISW are currently accepting donations to support ISW and if the support continues then there may be no subscription charge.

    Just food for thought....

You and everyone else are more than welcome to join in ISW and House Marik It is a RealTime environment so when you log off to sleep, things wont look the same when you log back on. Currently we have a forum for the House Marik Community that migrated from GS & AOL MPBT and IS3025, which can be found at fwlm.org

If logistics scare you, dont get promoted past BCO Battalion Commanders and down only have to worry about the fight. The budgeting and so forth is dealt with from RCO and up.

First and foremost, real life comes first. The attitude from the players and members of ISW is pretty much the same when it comes to real life events. Family is top priority. Dont worry if one House is raiding your House, most likely it will be there when you return. (unless all the pilots in that House are AWOL or just plain suck! like Steiner!!.... just kidding.)

I am a member of House Marik. Most of us in our faction of House Marik have stuck together over a span of 10 to 13 years remaining a BattleTech Community. Same goes for the other Houses.

Its MW 4 Vengence, but BK can be used with a modified patch. You can get all 3 versions for about $11 if you buy the MechWarrior 4 Compilation.  ISW uses MW4 to resolve the combat for planet capture, team arena fights, and duels. The idea has been to integrate IS3028 and ISW. Of course IS3028 needs to be developed.

    Why MW 4 Vengence?

Well, Vengence is the most commonly owned game which is why they went with that and not one of the others. All I have is Venegence and never cared to by the others.

Besides, it is being used as a temporary combat engine. It has been berrated between the owners as I mentioned earlier that IS3028 and ISW would merge and integrate their systems to provide a more BattleTech experience. Of course IS3028 still has some ways to go of being developed which is why the decision was made to use MW4 as the tool to determine win/loses for combat because of its commonality.

I think one of our officers in Marik has some valid boxes still available to new recruits needing the game. He said he'd be willing to ship it and hand it over at no charge. So if you go to our web site, ask for Liam since he's the one with the extra boxes.

By the way, it's open beta and anyone can join. It about to go live into Planet Capture. Which House will dominate the Inner Sphere? (Marik if I have anything to say about it!)

    Color me excited!

I like (stress "like") the fantasy setting and all, but am dying for a good sci-fi setting. I was personally geeked at the idea that Microsoft wouldn't f**k up the Shadowrun license and make an awesome Oblivion-esque RPG or an MMORPG, but they decided that a completely underwhelming Quake III style FPS game would be better.

I'm all about Vista players against 360 owners, but not in a gamestyle that obviously favors the one over the other. It's a stupid implementation and will just make Microsoft look like idiots. And the whole integration of Windows, 360 games, emails, blah blah blah is more designed for something like an MMORPG and less for a niche title that will attract die-hards and . . . well that's about it.

Sorry, ranting off. I meant, I'm very excited about this. Thanks for the post!!!

Am I to understand that this is actually just an interface for MW4?

If that's true, then it's not really an MMO is it?

I hope they don't plan on charging people monthly to play a mod.

    No, it isn't a mod.

ISW is a computer program designed for a community of mechwarrior players. The program is designed to enhance the battletech experience by incorporating all aspects of Mech Warfare including Mercenary Support, Logistics, Full Economy, Full Control of the Chain of Command by all involved in it, Gladitorial Dueling and Planet Capture. Each Person has certain levels of control and access of data relating to his position in the house. House Leaders in ISW will be a very challenging position, requiring many hours of play time.
ISW is not a copy of anything. It is a compilation of all original source code to create the things needed to truly enjoy the Battletech Experience. Currently ISW uses MW4 as the combat engine, with full permissions from Microsoft. However this should not be construed as indicating that ISW is a league like many others on the internet. It is much more then a league, it is the total package, and 0% web based. The only web based component is this website and message boards. Everything needed to play the game of ISW is internal to the program itself, including live communications, intergame messages, meeting halls (bars) where houses or units can meet without worry of eavesdropping, an integrated and fully user customizable map consisting of over 2000 planets representing the true inner sphere as it was meant to be and many other features.

ISW is produced by Inner Sphere Design Studios Coporation (ISDS), all rights reserved.

You are more than welcome to learn what it is about. www.iswars.com

The website has 0 (Zero) information on it... Nada.... And
trying to look up your company doesn’t even turn up a my space page.

Also, i can find no press release from Microsoft announcing anyone licensing
the MW IP to anyone... or the use of the engine.

No screen shots... No model renders... No videos...

It sounds like from your description that you got the source code, and wrapped
    it in a matching program.

I wish you all the luck in the world.. But I don’t fully believe this is
    anything more than a mod.

    Respectfully.

I downloaded the beta file some time ago.

It was 12.5 megs. Haven't tried it yet. The file size put me off. MW4 took up two full discs. (Plus about 6 expansion discs).

it seems you need to have MW4 to use this mod/interface/thingy.

Forgot to mention it on my last post but that post are the words that came from the ISW boss man. Not my words...

Anyways, you misread. It's not MY company. As I had posted, I am a member of this BT Community in House Marik. Those within the company I can not speak for as to why you can not find information out on their company unless it's because they are a PRIVATE company. In which case you wouldn't find much of anything except their company name.

If you dont want to try it, fine dont. No need for you to worry about it. Those who may be interested can find out information regarding the company and the business behind it all. Just by asking the Lead man, Comstar (Vermatrix) on the ISW forums should you want to question his integrity about his code and company ethics.

For all others, I would like to extend the invitation. House Marik at www.fwlm.org is where the FWL hangs their hats.

It sounds like something that requires a bit of technical knowledge to operate, but it sounds great.

I would love to pilot an Awesome for the Free Worlds Leauge in an MMO setting, just like I usually did playing the old FASA tabletop with Partha Pewters.

By the way, I found the company web site. I just went to ISW web site and clicked on a link and what do ya know... i found this link to their company web site. I knew I'd been there once before but couldn't remember how I got there until I did it by accident.
