Ryzom's endgame

VhayneVhayne Member UncommonPosts: 632

This question is more for a friend than myself.  I honestly couldn't care less about the endgame, as I've never maxed out a character in levels in any of the mmorpgs I've played lol.  I like to enjoy the ENTIRE game, and try to savor it all, not just rush to the max level.  But my friend is different.  He's all about the endgame.

So....what does it consist of?  Raids?  PvP?  Any other games to compare it to?

Thanks in advance.

I don't really understand the concept of 'endgame'.  It just doesn't fit with roleplaying for me. I GUESS it will be outpost/spires battles for people into that sort of thing, but you could level pretty much forever given all the skill branches, if you really wanted to.

With R2 coming along another 'endgame' could be the creation of adventures and scenarios for others.

It's useally very hard to define 'endgame' in a sandbox style MMO like Ryzom. If you were to max out all the skill trees you wanted high I'd imagin you'd keep doing what you had been to max out those skills. In my case I'd still keep hunting mats, harvesting mats and experimenting with crafting. I'd probably dabble into a few other skill trees as well ... which I kinda already am

    *nods*
The Concept of "Endgame" as it fits within many other MMOs does not apply to Ryzom.
There are no High-End-Item-Farming-Instances or whatever it is that devines "Endgame".

Sure there are things to do, as it is virtually impossible to realy "rush" every skill to maximum in a rational ammount of time (even with XP Katalysers), you´ll always be having a skill to level. If this is what you want out of a game.
If you like to "grind" then you can grind as grind can
Only be waware that due to the ammount of levels, 250 in each of 64 Skilltrees, there´ll be no instant grativication to you. You won´t be able to just "logg on an become L337" within a few weeks or even month.
Leveling Ryzom isn´t just about Levels, its about understanding what you´re able to do with your new abilities too.
There are so many combinations of Stanzas to define your own action and to tweak you skills to your liking, that by simply accommodating XP and buying everything there is, you´ll miss 3/4 of the Game and you will eventually be a "High-Level-Noob", an "Owner of all, Master of none", even if your Titles claim otherwise.
If you´re a 250 Melee-Fighter and don´t know how to switch your Attacks and/or change a stanza to lower your stamina cost, then all the Rush in the world won´t make you a "good Gamer".

As a high level Player you can nonetheless participate in Outpostbattles, later Spire-charges, hunt Kintin, or other high level Mobs, socialize, enjoy the scenery. That´s about it.
In Ryzom the old Zen saying appiles very well and rings much truer then in any other game I´ve encountered so far:
    "The path is the goal"
It´s much more enjoyable to take your time and enjoy playing with others, than rush by in playing against others in a pointless quest for Max-Lvls.

Grind if you must, but don´t complain about it later.

    "end-game"

A term the WoW masses have now brought to those who know better.

The 'end-game' term was around pre WoW. I remember hearing it in EQ1 and SWG.

If any game HAS an endgame, it means it's shallow, IMO, that there needs to be something to do when the content has all been "done" or you've gone as far as you can on your predetermined "track". It's a net that tries to catch players and keep them in game when there's nothing left to do.

    WoW=60 in two months...what now?

SWG had skills in 32 profs that you could try one at a time or a mixture of many. Tired of BH? Try Master Droid Engineer. Or maybe combo them both. Or a mixture of the other 30 professions.
Now SWG-NGE is a race to 90 and then "endgame". Whatever that is.

Ryzom....I dare you to try all of the skill trees. There's not really an endgame since no one will likely hit it.

And that's the beauty of sandbox games.

If your friend is looking for an "endgame", it makes me think he's looking for a loot based game, similar to WoW or SWG-NGE. Not Eve or Ryzom.

    He'll only know by trying.

QFE! I think Delzo hit the nail on the head! I used to be one of those end-game people myself but upon moving from SWG-NGE to Ryzom I have discovered that there is a lot more to MMOs than just the end-game which IMHO wears thin real fast and the E-peen affect wears off fast! At least it did with me! There's the grouping, getting into a good guild, meeting people instead of the end-game. Please don't take this as a flame just my opinion! If your buddy has fun with what he does more power to him!

    Its kind of
funny to see a term that originated from poor game design used as necessary game
    mechanism…

    “hey, how
good is the lack of content in this game”?
    “sorry, don’t
    have that”
    “lol, this game
    suxx”

    It somewhat
reminds me of Monty Python ^_^

Is there a "starting" game?  And by "starting" game, I mean "is anyone really even playing this thing?"

First thing any MMORPG needs is a good "starting" game (i.e., lots of players).  Then it can worry about having an "endgame"

Well, everybody has its own definition of "lots". The exact numbers are not known, but when I play there are never a lot of players active in my part of the world. Perhaps 10 on a busy moment. I am a low level player and perhaps I am in the wrong spots, but I can't imagine more then hundreds of players online on the server.

The world seems pretty empty to me.

    That´s because it´s huuuge.
You´re right, they´re all in differnt parts of the World doing their own thing
Do not hesitate to look for a good guild, or other nice people to help you get around a bit.
