What % of GWL/GM used 'botting' programs?

DabbleDabble Member Posts: 1,043

Just wanted to see what everyone thought.

Personally, I have to believe that is 50%.  Let's face it, most of us can't take a month (or more) and start up a steady diet of methamphetime and Red Bull.

Also, for those of you MMORPG veteran's, can you recall an MMORPG that had a more vicious and dangerous grind then WoW's PvP system?

    If I knew what a GWL was, I could tell you. GMs use a bot issued by Blizzard which changes every time a GM quits. If you're referring to a Guild Master, then I'd say it depends on the player and the guild. SiN supposedly botted instances along with 'ninja'-ing everything while in non-guild raids, thus they earned the title "SiNja".

    If you're referring to players in general, I'd say that around 15% of them use hacks. If you consider in-game macros and interface mods 'hacking', then that changes to well over 98%.

    WoW's PvE grind is carebear grade compared to what's out there (EQ2, DAoC, AO, Ryzom). As for PvP, EVE supposedly has the best and most dangerous PvP out there. In WoW, you risk only equipment repairs if you happen to be mobbing at the time someone jumps you. In EVE, you risk everything just venturing beyond a space station.

    PvP complexity and difficulty, I still say EVE is the top for that. The outcome of the battle depends highly on the player's understanding of your ship and how you fight... also if that player has an understanding of their own ship. In WoW, it's all about twinking your toon with farmed gear and spamming as many copy-pasted macros as possible.

    Thanks for the post, but you completely misunderstood me.

    GWL= Grand Warlord (Horde)

    GM= Grand Marshal (Alliance)

    And what I meant by "vicious and dangerous PvP system," I wasn't referring to the PvP itself, but the system in order to gain rank.

    My mistake on that point, I didn't make that clear.

    So now that I've cleared that up, did any of those games have a grind that is as awful as the PvP ranking grind?

    I mean, imagine having to compete with every player on your server in order to gain levels, based on how much time you play.

    Faction grinding in Kunark era EQ1 was truly horrible.

    Truly :)

    I was a 'GWL' for a while on my server, but I've never seen the term.

    I know GWLs and GMs use bots because I did and the five other GWLs at the time used them too (the two UD rogues on the top were nasty). I used a plethora of macros and UI mods to give me an edge (even though I didn't need it, my gear was extremely powerful anyway).

    It's not hard to compete with players who have a disadvantage. Starting in beta gave me a head start to 60 and a rush into end-game instances where I could get high-end gear by farming it to death. When I had all blues, I would camp newbie alliance PvP areas with my guild. This vicious cycle continued until BGs were released.

    The rank and achievement system was fine, even newbies could raise in rank by preventing the enemy from winning in 5 minutes. Instant honor for losing... oh yay. It's an easy system with no real challenge and uber upgrades at the end.

    Where you competing with every other player on the server for it?

    The HWL/GM grind isn't about quantity - it's about quality of that quanity, e.g. - the amount of time you spend grinding over time.

    Well...

    I don't know who you are, so I'd hate to call you a liar.  But something doesn't jibe with your post.  If you truly attained GWL, you would not say that the system is fine and doesn't require changing.  Blizzard long ago admitted that the system is 'flawed'

    The truth is, you have to spend atleast 14 hours a day (and I'm talking about prior to cross server BGs, god knows how impossible it will be to rank now) every single day in order to hit that rank.

    Unless of course no one on your server competes with you.

    Actually most HWL/GM I know used something much simpler.... Multiple people playing same account.  Recruit a couple friends and do BGs non-stop. It also helps if you're part of a pvp team that just rig the system to force rank 14.

    Yeah, I didn't mention that.

    but yes many people do that too.

    Well the good news is that this system will be over and done with come expansion.

    Most dont use the botting programs because they are really easy to spot and most people report pvp bots as they really do nothing in pvp but help you lose.
    Most use two people playing, which is greatly obvious as one person will be really skilled and the other will be terrible.

    I think that anyone that got GWL or GM on a newer server has to have used some illegal method.

    Most of the people grinding their PvP rank have multiple people playing the account, like many others have stated.

    I know some people claim to have played 20+ hours per day for a 6-8 weeks mostly in premade groups, but that would have to be the rare case. I don't know how you could see after a week.

    They are changing the ranking system and that is one of the best things about BC.

    Yeah this is how it usually happens. You play x hours a day and when you got to bed, school, work etc you have somebody else logging in and continue to play.

    I don't see how bot's would work for this either. They work for pve grinding but can't work in bg's. Mostly because if there is no keyboard input for a while you are instantly booted out of the battleground.

    They are changing the system in TBC so there is hope for you who want to become rank 14.

    On Boulderfist US someone frapped a Warrior who would jump every 5 secs. in order not to afk.   Somehow he got this program that automatically requeued you in WSG and would make you jump every 5 secs.

    I don't think that works. I have myself tried to force my character to walk constantly in AV, by forcing the "w" key down, when I had to go afk for more than 5 minutes. It always booted me out.

    lol..

    Well it did work for this particular player because someone frapped it

    As far as what you were trying to do in AV....

    If you found a program that could do that for you, yes it would work.

  • I doubt any of them used programs.  I do think 50% or more have multiple people playing the account though.

    Not true at least on AN ;D  I happened to know the guy who was GW for a short period of time (about 2 weeks) and he did not use any botting programs and was even the only guy playing his account.

    As for other servers: PvP bots I'd say are very rare because its almost impossible to use a bot, not get noticed and reported, and still get enough honor to grind your way up.

    However, I'd be willing to bet that more than 50% have two+ players on the account.

    i believe there are so many ppl cheating and none of them is getting banned.

    Anti afk program is called "Jorman's UO Loop", there are many others also. You select a key, interval and the window.

    Hey thanks for the info!!!!

    jk =)

    But yeah, people frap pvp botting, report it, and Blizz rarely does anything. Like i posted before, someone put a frap of this warrior on the Boulderfist US forums and months after that I saw him in WSG still botting.

    The chance of getting banned by Blizzard is like the chances of you getting a DUI. Sure it could happen, but more than likely you can get by.

    You need more than an anti-afk program to get max rank.
