Games that cant get their registration sorted.
EVE online is a good example on how it should be done. Get to their one and only official website, download the client at about 500kb/s. Register without even being asked about your credit card, and voila: You can log in most of the time without patching, and you can even post on their forums!
Now, this is not the way it works if you should be so foolish and try Horizons so called free trial.
First of all, they have done something genious and created a hole lot of "official" websites. I counted atleast two websites claiming to be the official site, and a bunch of sites that i decided couldnt ever be a companys official site due to their more than childish design ( my measurment is that if i could have done it better, they cant be serious). On one of these "official" sites, i found a link that said "Free Trial". I started to download and i swear the speed maxed at a whooping 50kb/s! It took me 5 hours to download the client. After that, it was time to register.
After registering, giving away my phone number amongst other things, i was given a code that i supposedly needed. I was never asked about that code. I tried their other "official" website and registered again, just to be told that their registration service was out of order or something. I tried to click on the "play Horizon" shortcut and Ie opened a (gosh!) new website.. I tried to register there, managed to get a "free trial cd key" But after registration i was first told that they had my email in their system allready..
Right there, i was starting to hope that i had finally made a right turn in the labyrint, i used the same username and password i had used in all the three previous registrations and tried to log on the game. Just to be told that my trial had expired! I was further told that i had to pay to play the game, if i could be so kind to enter my creditcard number..
Now this is where my patience ends. Never ever ask me for my credit card if you promise a free trial! Ever!
So i tried to register at their forums, to ask them if they where really serious about giving new players such a bad first impression. But you know what? Their forums dident accept registration! Its true! A game company that doesnt allow people to register at their forums, imagine that..
All this is great. I am obviously not worthy to play their game. Im just confused, because EVE actually proves that it can be done so easy and painless. Just a few clicks, 30 minute download and you are ready to rock!
Instead Horizons decided that they would go for the more confusing and annoying method...Beats me..
Anyway, im left with a feeling that i saved myself from loads of trouble not getting trough their labyrint. All the glory to people making it!

you are right to stay away. Good choice.
Imagine if you had entered billing information. EII has been charging free trial players right off the bat and other players 4 5 times in a single month for one subscription. With virtually no recourse in getting your money back.
The game play itself simply isn't worth that kind of trouble. Its not that good of a game.
Don't feel bad that you could not get through the maze. I hung in there and finally got my free trial and they charged (and over limit fee'd) my card immediately even before I finished registering for the official forums. I will spare you all the horror and simply say I had to cancel my credit card to get away from these folks. It only cost me $30 for the fee they caused that I will never get back. Even though I used everything they had available to cancel the trial account non of it is working. You simply will not be able to cancel the account without canceling your credit card and refusing charges. It was a good lesson learned and I did report them in my state and the national BBB because of the shady business practices of EI.
New players please think long and hard before you decide to go anywhere near this game or EI.

Yeah i guess i will stay away from this game, to bad tho, cus the game itself looks good. Ive been playing EVE for three years and are looking for a more relaxed game to just have fun in when EVE gets too heavy heh.. Guess it wont be Horizon..
Here's a handy link.

Individual complaints generally aren't investigated but if enough people submit the same complaint about a company...
The HZ community are stand-up folks that would be welcome in any other MMO world, they need to let go and move on to a better place.
