Does anyone like Old School (Music)?

Rikimaru_XRikimaru_X Member UncommonPosts: 11,718

I like Old School Music. I wasn't necessarly born into that time when it was born and was popular, but my dad has 100's of cds and I actually like a lot of them. Somthing that is very different from today's music, no matter what genre it is. I like music that talks about love and not sex. No bragging or nothing. Well I do have to take a break from today's music and such.

What do we have now?

Rappers Bragging, Rockstars Bragging, Metalheads...bragging. R&B is still good though...A good bit of it...well mostly the females.

Do you guys like some Old School?

I love The Beatles.  I can listen to them all day.

And I also like old swing music and big band sounds.

That was some good music.  I agree with you Riki, today's music is packaged garbage more involved in image than talent.

My fav band is The Rolling Stones. I guess they are "old school".

My style of listening is Blues, Classica, Rock, Folk Music etc etc. I guess I pretty much stick to "real" music were the artists are actually working for there music and writing themselfs instead of computer sampleing music and hired song writers to make hits for them.

What do you consider "old school"?  I know some 80's music is becoming "old".

I actually enjoy the music from the 40's - 50's era.  I guess that's "old school".

This is all 60's and 70's.  No one likes Frank Sinatra?  Or any others like him in the 50's and 40's?

    *EDIT*

Growing up, I lived in the same house as my grandpa, he use to always listen to music from the 50's.  I guess it just grew on me.  Odd that I'm 26 and like that type of music.  /shrug

In the recent years there have been very little artists that seem to have any talent behind their music, unlike the older bands.  Nowadays it is all about being mainstream and making money off of your music, not playing for the love of making music.

    People suck.

Old music is good, so I voted yes. The other day I was listening to Muddy Waters even. I dont really know what you're defining as old school music; I'm kinda thinking you mean from the early ninties. I hope that is an okay assumption, cause you did say something about your dad's cds.

Music isnt bad because its about sex or bragging or whatnot. Muddy Waters, who I mentioned above, was one of the earlier electric blues musicians, and he talked about sex alot. His music however was very good. Frank Zappa talked about the most messed up stuff ever, but his music (to a musician, at least) was top notch.

Mainstream music today is pretty lame. Rappers have nothing significant to say anymore. Public Enemy, NWA... stuff like that, had a good degree of intelligence to it. Not this boneheaded approach to writing with the attitude of "I'm going to get me as much bling as possible and promote an image that harms my race and contribute nothing to where I came from." Mainstream rock is even lamer. Its all "Boo hoo, I am a poor, disenfranchised white kid who thinks the extent of guitar I should play is power chords" over a poppy beat, making the claim that they are in it for the music and not the fame and glory while putting out user friendly music 100% of the time. Same thing with emo bands. Metal still is about the image. Funny thing about metal; bands like Pantera come along and shake up the genre, to destroy the idea that you need to go with The Image of a metal head to be a good band... but all that happened was a change of what The Image is.

    Anyway... I'm ranting.

On another note, there is still music out there that is of high quality. Its not usually on the radio, but its still out there. You just need an eclectic taste to appreciate it. The jam scene is a very good one and you can probably find something in there to like if you like old music.

Now, I mean, I thought it was pronounced "Poor-Gee", as opposed to "Poor-G". As in, the sound the letter "G" makes, not the sound that you make when you say "G"... You know, like "Geek"... Man, text makes explaining sounds difficult...

Not "G" as in Gee but "G" as in guh.

*Edit* (If I understood you right) maybe that's why they should just use the letter "J" in all those places where G gets confusing.

Uh, yeah, kinda... Only, by "Gee", I meant, like, not "Jee", but, like, geek without the k...

I think you did understand the sound I was trying to say, though.

the majority of the music I listen to is all old stuff.  But lately I've been finding a few new bands that are actually quite good.

Like theres this band called Wolfmother that resemble Led Zeppelin.  They are worth checking out.
