Like many of the new players in the MMO industry, my first real MMORPG was World of Warcraft. After nearly 20 months of playing, I'm sick of the game. I enjoyed leveling up to 60 once, and with a group of friends getting to 30 or 40 can be fun after that. But now its all repetative. I'm looking for something new (at least until Stargate Worlds comes out )
So, where do I go now? Is Everquest II something that could be enjoyable? If I subscribe for Everquest II and buy the original (or Star Wars Galaxies) I can play those without any extra fee right? Any games on the market right now other than Star Wars Galaxies (I wasn't too fond of it when I tried the free trial) that are Sci-Fi oriented? Fantasy is great too of course, I mean, I did last at WoW for quiet some time :P

If you got both EQ2 and SWG, you would subscribe to SOE's Station Pass thing. You can play all the games on there for one price. It costs more than just paying for 1 game's subscription but if you're playing 2 or more it'll save you money. I played EQ2 for a year and enjoyed it a lot. I quit for the same reason you quit WoW. Once you play for so long, the been-there-done-that sets in and it's time to move on. It's a decent game tho, especially if you like questing.
As for Sci-Fi, both Planetside and Matrix Online are kind of sci-fi. Both are also on SOE's Station Pass as well i believe. Anarchy Online and EVE Online are in the sci-fi genre, but i could never really get into them much.
Anarchy Online is free. Unless you want the expansions. And going from World of Warcraft as your first "true"
MMORPG to another game will pretty much leave you dissapointed.
I have never played WoW, nor am I fan, but from what I've read and seen, it's pretty close to being the "perfect" MMORPG. I know people will flame me for saying that, and call me a fanboi, but facts are facts.
As for Sci-Fi. If you can bear with the slower pace of EVE, it's an excellent game.
Everquest II gave me a very long time of enjoyment. It's a lot more mature then WoW and if you have a decent enough machine you can make the game truly shine. It's a bit more complex then WoW, but the game really starts flowing after level 20, so don't download the trial and snap judge it.
Also take a look at the site's Game List and see what other people have to say about each game. Also if you can hold on for a bit or just find something to kill time untill next year, there's some really amazing MMORPGs coming out around the corner.
Yeah I'd go with the recommendations of trying EQ2. Quite a bit different from WoW with a more mature style and a little more indepth.
The best - Eve online. #1 at MMORPG.com
And, Eve is as slow paced as you make it. PvP combat in this game has adrenalin like no other. (Well, maybe Ultima Online pre-AOS)

Especially this
I knew I'd get flammed by one troll for saying that.
I never said it was close to perfect, but right now... it's pretty close to being the flagship (if it's not already) for ALL MMORPGs to follow.
Blizzard took everything that worked, and made it work better. Why dabble in a field that might not bring more money in when all you can do is polish things up and waala!
Troll for not agreeing with you, ok then! Your words were 'perfect mmo', I think your could perhaps expand that to say 'perfect beginner mmo'. But other than that I wouldn't classify it as the 'perfect' mmo especially when every mmorpg is different. Not every mmorpg wants to be an arcade mmorpg. (and by the way I play WoW currently, but I recognize every mmorpg is different and you play for different reasons.)
Trust me, Battlefield 2 is a blessing. ^_^
I've recently gotten a little burned out on the current set of MMOs. However, I can't seem to enjoy single player games either. So ... a decent on-line FPS game seems to have been the answer.

Oh, cruel fate, to be thusly boned. Ask not for whom the bone bones. It bones for thee.

I don't respect a person or a company that "follows" another because they are successful and maybe by doing so the person/company will become successful as well.
I think this is where games fail from the beginning. When they have the strategy of 'trying to be the next WOW'. All throughout history the best ideas are thought up by people that don't follow something previously said.
Current: Puzzle Pirates
Waiting: SWTOR,Aion, CO
Played: AC, WoW, SB, EVE
"Kaneda! What...do you see?"

I could care less about WoW, I'm just stating facts.
I pray, wish and dream of a game that breaks the mold, and there's a few out there that are coming. I'm just using examples of WoW and how it's so popular. There's no way I think it's perfect, but we can't deny the fact of how popular it is, and how many people (even those who bash it) actually play it.
I have to throw out a big recomendation for EVE, experiencing it is a must for ever MMOGamer, there really isn't anything out there like it. Having said that I didn't play eve all that long and I don't play it now, but its worth trying.
Saga of Ryzom has the best free trial of any game, unfortanitly the rest of the game isn't much like the trial.
I'm currently playing EQ2 which is pretty good now and way better then it was a couple of years ago. Thing is that your just going to be doing pretty much the same stuff as you did in WOW.
Eve Online is a great game, but it takes some time to find your way around since there are so many different aspects of the game. Money will be an issue for a while as well. As said before, the game is great, but you should bring a lot of free time. If you get into it, you might get hooked for the next couple of years
If you are just looking for a game to kill some time until another game comes out, it might not be the best choice.
Guild Wars could be the game you are looking for. No monthly fee and instant action if you like PvP. If you dont like PvP, the PvE aspect is fun as well. Lots of instances but that shouldnt be an issue since you played WoW
2 million players from what i remember, great game balance, no lag.
