Pre-order at Direct2drive and get a beta spot ... sometime in Sept. Also an in game item. My youngest brother and few guildmates from Lineage 2 have been following this. They are in the final stages of Beta according to them. Bought 3 copies , it looks good.

Been following this game for months , got email with upcoming details..then saw pre order...why oh why is everyone on this pre order bandwagon ( If it fails at least we make some cash philosphy)..if i cannot at least test game prior to subscription then i'm damn well not going to blindly throw money at it.
Maybe i'll get a free beta slot..if not..next please.
P.S Open beta should not be restricted...rather see how the servers cope under a heavy load.

Strontium, I agree with you 100%.
Why in the hell do we have to throw money at something we are unsure of, at this day and age.
If I like the game I'll gladly buy it, if not, yeah next please.
I dont see why people get upset , the first people allowed int Beta were publishers and developers .. people in the know. The next set where pretty random , there hasnt been any bad information about the game.
30.00 is what.. for me less than 2 hours of work. You pay 20.00 bucks to see a feature flim , and dont truly know if ya gonna like. Just because someone gave it a review doesnt mean ya gonna like.
Think you have missed the point.
Example: Would you buy car without even test driving it first ?..
If you would then you either have far more money than sense , or so gullible you believe everything people tell you. ( you are an advertisers dream customer ).
*note The game may well be fantastic , but let everyone try before they buy*

Besides.. I preordered RF Online to play in the beta.. I didn't like the game.. When I got it in the mail, it was still factory sealed.. So I just brought it to an electronics store and got my money back.

Uh a car cant isnt a entertainment item... You cant compare a car with a MMORPG. A car can also be returned and exchange , is ya dont like. Inspect a car , cost 40.00 normally unless ya got a friend who can do it.
This is more like a TV show or Movie .. or yes a steak. You take a chance when ya buy entertainment produce. How many times as a kid or adult did ya read the review for something and it turned out wrong. Our Blockbuster doesnt have alot of PS2 titles anymore so when ya want to buy a new one , ya got take a chance with them.
Personally I got a budget of 120.00 for entertainment , (this is per week) so its no big try out a game. I also feel that companies should restrict people from Open Betas. Why? In Lineage 2 , they had a ton of people who got into Open Beta and some didnt buy it , instead the used up alot of good names that have since the beginning of Open Beta have never been refresh. Also 99% of the Americans and Euros I see are complete freeloaders , I was in game, when in Global a couple of Germans were talking about not buying the game just playing it for free , until the next beta came out.
Beta is for bug fixing , if ya want to help support the game. You should have to pay something for Open Beta , even if it 6.00 for Fileplanet. More and more betas are being fill with jerks ... I spent 2 hours killing people in Archlord , who were there to simply play for free and spout off why the game should be free.
Happens in every game and its getting worst ....

Well in the Lineage 2 deal.....they never cleared characters at the end of beta. That was the mistake. If they had....alll those names would have been available. But of course, its a given most of them would have quit too at some point...just not as soon. I had a guild of 30 coming out of beta...25 quit, lol.
Well if you believe so strongly that YOU should have to pay to even test a game , then i guess game companies will already have your email on speed send.

I been around for ages , since MuDs charged by the minute and then later by the hour. Betas are no longer testing for most people, so the company should charge something for it. When I was in Eve Online Closed beta , most of the people there were to play and complained non stop about lack of features.
I ve seen the growing trend of game companies , especially the smaller one add servers for Open Beta , only to launch with 1 server , because people didnt stay to pay. Its not the games , its the kiddies playing them, they are like Locusts .. moving from one beta to next.
In the pass 2 years I ve watch people move from trial to beta then trial. Which why they added SSI numbers , credit cards , and other stuff to prevent people from playing for free.
After CoH launched I sunk 15k into the development of a small MMORPG, and the Angel investor put in another 100k. Which we got to playable alpha stages , we invited some gamers to join us in testing , along side QAs and GMs. It was a heartbreaking experience , the developers and GM saw a large number of people learning ways to beat the system , and not reporting it.
In the later stages , we saw people trying to crash the server (not testing anything but attempt to dupe , beat people in duels and other things.)
The game was MuD/web based and had limited to graphics .. but what we learned from it , told us that gamers had changed for the worst. I m all for company to cover expensies for testing , and to keep the morons out. Back when I was Lost on CoH , I tried for ages to make it a paid beta, got sick before the launch and during the beta stages .. But I think NCsoft and folks are being to wise up, they can do alot with software , and pre-orders.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.
As long as they can sell 1k copies , they dont need many more for Open beta stress test. Russian QAs charge as little as 4.00 an hour , and Asian QAs charge 1.50 hour. Ya can also use software to stress test the server now adays better than ya can with people. It cost alot less.
If ya need people there are game design firms that will give ya 24/7 people for around 150.00 , cheaper the deeper ya get into Euro market and Asian market. Full support by an Indian company is 400.00 a month , (US) , or less. It includes CSR , QAs and GMs.
