Seriously the reason this game is beating WOW and i don't play WoW anymore is because this game is free. Overall WOW is better than GW. But the trump card is teh monthley fee.
I don't know that it is "beating" WoW.. look at the player base of both you have some overlap but WoW has a much higher player base currently. I play both for different reason.. I am one of the people who like the 40 man raids so I can do something with the majority of my guild.. I like GW because I find the PVP more enjoyable and not so dependant on the time I have spent in the game. The PVE aspect of GW is nice too because I can level a character to 20 in less than a days time played without needing anyone to be on to help.
Would I pay a monthly fee to play GW.. probably not and the only reason is not a lot of my friends play GW so I would not have a social reason to play it like I do with WoW.
I suppose, yes, if the A.Net and NCSoft staff went crazy and decided "We're gonna start charging a monthly" which they have said repeatedly that they will never do I suppose that I'd be at least tempted to pay-to-play Guild Wars. Much like I would like to pay-to-play WoW being that it's a very good game. But, since A.Net representatives have stated clearly that they will NEVER charge a monthly, the question is pretty moot.
I gave up playing WoW because I was paying for it, but didn't have the time (work & family life) to play the game... I couldn't justify the fee in the end.
I'm looking to play Guild Wars, but haven't made the move to purchase the game yet. Do you guys think it's a good game? What are your thoughts?
Is it a game I can play without having to put a lot of time into daily? Can I play once a week and still get something out of it, or should I just stick to offline gaming until I have more time to devote?

Yep, Guild Wars will suit your needs. I know a couple people that only played on a once-a-month basis, and they enjoyed the game quite a bit. The game was designed with exactly your problems in mind.
Of course, that GW arent beating WoW. GW is prepared as free game from the begining and so its immposible to make desions about paying. If they expect montly fees for game, than GW was programmed complete differently.

I can guess if GW, as we know now, required a monthly feeto play they would have added more contents, features, slots and maybe raising the limit of storage space .
Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

Hey thanks for the info... I'm heading out to pick up a copy of GW today. I've heard similar responses from multiple people now. Anyways, thanks!

Makes about as much sense as saying "Would you pay to walk your dog." You can't take something that has been free for a year, and promised to remain free forever and ask people if they would be willing to pay for it and expect them to say yes in mass. And to do it without even putting in cost makes it even more foolish.
"GWs is $1 a month" I bet just about every person that said No would be willing to pay $1 to keep playing. Heck look on the ground as you walk around and you'll fnd $1 before a month is over.
But the difference between free and $1/mo is almost nil, other than the fact one senerio you are paying and one your aren't.

First, GW did not beat WOW.... I was surprised to hear you (as a WOW fanboy) say that....
If you are angry because WOW is out of the Highest Ranked MMORPGs list and GW remains in No. 2, then your hatred is misplaced. This list shows only the popularity of MMORPGs voted by this site visitors, at the very best it gives you a very general idea of which MMORPGs players would want more... This does not mean GW is "better" than WoW. This is a very subjective topic....
I personally voted "No" because I have so used to the no monthly fee model, I would not want to pay a dollar if they decided to charge us. Beside if they changed the subscription model from the very beginning, the way GW is designed and implemented would be adjusted according to the subscription model as well. So I think the vote doesn't really say anything at all.
You won't find the answer you are looking for, because you keep asking the wrong questions....
Would I pay a monthly fee for Guild Wars? No, sorry I just can't justify doing so. I'm still annoyed that you can't play this game offline straight out of the box. You don't have to PvP if you don't want to. You don't have to group with other players if you don't want to since you can hire npcs. You can progress the entire story with just npcs I believe and most of the game comes on a disc when you buy it in the store. Why is it that you need an online connection for a game you don't even pay a monthly fee to play?
That part has just never made any sense, not when I played and not even now.
Yea, the game is great, mostly 'cause its free. Because of that, its great for new MMO players to cut their proverbial teeth on. I actually played WoW a few days before buying this, and I mostly bought it BECAUSE I had played WoW. It's essentially the same concecpt with many of the same gameplay aspects, but its free. Its also good if you can't or don't play as much, or get bored with games a few months after buying it. That's what held me off of WoW...I didn't want to sink that much cash into something I might get out of. So no, GW remaining free is the key to its success, as much as I hate to say it...cause, while its great, its just not a strong enough MMO to hold up to the competition if its essentially the same price range.
*sorry about the long-windedness. As you can tell, I'm new to the forums...hi all.

Now that you realize that, please crawl back into the cave with the rest of your troll friends.

Unless they added 200% more content than they have now, including crafting, I will not even think about paying a monthly fee.
I have an account, yet I still can't bring myself to play it, even though its free...

first guildwars is not free
50 bucks every 6 months for the new chapters , if you love the game , there is no other way to live , you have to buy it all.
second , wow is a normal mmo , guildwars is NEW
if you are looking for a game like SWG , AO , EQ , WOW , etc ... dont buy Guildwars.
