Final opinion on Lineage 2

edgaloredgalor Member Posts: 35

I recently return to L2 after I quitted it 2 years ago. The game was great in terms of graphic~ Just can't believe they can build a world that big with that kind of graphic. But graphics isn't everything right? After playing it for nearly 1 month, Lineage2 kinda scared me and I can't really see any future for me to continue playing this game.

First,I have to say the leveling isn't that bad~ Killing the same mob over and over and over again can be boring, but the world is more than double its size since release, and there are so many different places you can explore. Espeically when you get into a fun guild where you can constantly partying, it could kill the grind a bit~ So my complaints aren't on leveling.

The thing that scares me away is the market. Lineage2's market is base on players after lvl 20. The higher lvl it gets the more expensive the items can be. Now when Lineage 2 first came out, its idea is that instead of having tons of special items in the game to collect and making white items useless(WoW?), you actually just need to collect one good weapon/a set of good armours and keep them until you find a better one. The items will be difficult to find, so once you f ind it, you will keep them for a long time. Great idea, poor execution. The items in the game are so freaking expensive that, you, as a normal player, are impossible to obtain them in a normal way. Grade C weapon (top one) will cost you at least 10 mil, with over enchanced or demanding ones cost 50 millions +. 50 millions, that is 50,000,000. A grade c armour cost you 7 mil +, a helm will cost you 5 mil. Note that this price is only for grade c (lvl 40). Some ppl will jsut skip that and grind really hard to reach lvl 50 so they can save money for grade B. the result? a grade b top damage weapon will cost you at least 100 million, that is 100,000,000, armours? Dont really think you need me to go there? Now that if you still manage to grind your way to lvl 60~ then what? a grade A weapon will cost you at least 200mil where a set of grade a armours will cost 300millions +. and this problem leads to my next concern.

The game isnt' design that you can make money easily. In a game where monsters only drop like 1k-2k gold ea if you are lucky, the money can barely  pay off your potion money. Yet ppl can still afford to buy thsoe items at an insane price becasue:1. they have 2 accounts where one of them is a buffbot and keep you on buffs(the lvling rate of having one to lvl with you is about 5 times better than alone) or 2. You ebay your money (prepare at least 200 bucks if you want to have a set of grade A equipments after lvl 60) or 3. You buy 8 accounts - 9 accounts and bot them in dungeons(fastest way to make money in the game, that's how the farmers so they can sell that much money on ebay). Either way you will need to spend alot of money to get to anywhere in Lineage 2.

If you don't, the only result is that you will always be playing a gimped character (hell, even imagining making enough money for a grade B set hurts me). Remember that this is a game where yo play for fun instead of playing like a  job. and unless you are willing to give up your life and spend 8+ hours a day playing lineage 2, there is no way to make that much ingame currency to afford your items.

Lineage2 has a really beautiful world. Running around exploring the game world is extremely fun. Yet I can't really see any future playing this game the normal way

I think everyone knows now that L2 is hard.. it is hard to keep focused on leveling hard to get money hard to find groups at many points in the game. But if you can get past the grind and find a good clan then the game is fun and is worth playing

The game isnt designed for you to have top D at 20 Top C at 40 players just want it then so yes people ebay adena and it is a huge "problem" to some but seriously how high can you get in a month to judge the game again? its so easy to lvl now and make money compared to 2 years ago its like a totaly different game

Its getting better with C5 anyway

Well you can level crystals (Im foggy on this, its been awhile) Some level 10 crystals sell for 1 million plus. The big numbers are scary but actually not that bad. I don't have B grade yet but I stopped playing before I had to worry about it. I don't remember B grade being that expensive.(?) A grade is a bitch. I remember that clearly. B grade armor is NOT 100 mil. Its in the 10's of mil. I guess it depends on your server.

No, you need to learn the market and use it. Buy low, sell high, its that simple. It takes a looong time. You are correct the economy in L2 is NOT designed to be easy. Think about why that might be for a minute and it will make sense.
I have ONE account. ONE. Just understand it takes a long time to build wealth in L2.
If you don't, the only result is that you will always be playing a gimped character (hell, even imagining making enough money for a grade B set hurts me). True, I hate the economy also. Its easily workable you just need alot of friends/contacts who will cut you deals, be a good guild with lots of connects, be right on top of the server economy. Forget about leveling you need to learn how to PvEconomy lol. It can be done, I had about half the money I needed before I left for B grade.

    Look harder.
Suggestion. Start from scratch. Yes it will be hard but if you cant afford your gear now, you may as well start again. You new toon can use the hand downs.
The only way you will succeed in L2 is make a ton of contacts/friends and get into a decent guild. Nothing stellar, just a cooperative group. You can't pop in after being away for 2 years and expect it to work out in a month. The game is very different now from your days.

Torak, I am considering playing L2 but really do not know alot about it.  Is it built for a gamer that has about 20 hours a week to play? Or does it require more time then that?

Yeah that still works but if I understand it right, ncsoft decided to remove that as an option to make money. In c5 you can buy those crystals up to level 10. Also the crystals can't break anymore when you level them.

On Teon you pay about 40-50m for a non top b grade weapon like a kris. I've seen a +4 dama (the op was talking about OE'd weapons) for 80m and a +6 dama for 160m lately. A grade is nearly unpayable for a long time if you play legit. Up to 200m for the helmet. 100-200m for the weapon SA crystal, etc. Have 500m+ ready if you really want a grade.

Of course you can keep using b grade until you played the market enough to pay for an a grade set - and it gonna take *long* - but you gonna level a lot slower and will loose most pvps if you don't happen to have a class where equipment doesn't really matter. I made an average of 1-2m a day with trading. That's 250-500 days for a grade without taking payments for SS and other consumables into account. Might have made more money with more effort but I found it too boring.

If that's all sounding too much you still can do it like a lot of the other players: jump onto a bot train, run a bot train yourself and buy adena/powerlevelling. If you want to start over go to Franz. You'll see a lot of bot groups forming there at the moment and you can be level 75 in 2-3 months after the server started. Ban chance is about zero and with c5 NcSoft gonna remove the last thing botters had to be afraid of: droping expensive items to mobs.

Oh, and don't worry about reports. From my personal experience and that of several friends NcSoft won't do anything on the typical gm report. They just give the person that petitions a predefined standard reply and then switch to ignore mode. If the guy petitions you too often he might even get banned for it. I often think there's no place where cheating and botting is so safe as on Lineage 2 retail. You can spend weeks in places like patroits catacombs and not see a single real players. Apart of some daggers that go there to train all the bots while NcSoft still allows them. Sad imo.

So.........you coming to the new server?

My view on this game, after 2 years of experience.

I think that LineageII is a game where patience is required in the beginnning.. It 's also very handful to have lots of friends who play it or to make them. Alone is possible but i prefer lots of party 's and raid killing. And to not ruine your experience with the game... its better to start with the official server. When I came to the retail after 1,5 years of playing private servers I knew all weapons and leveling spots, cities etc etc.. It makes a hell lot more impression when you do that on official , cause it simply takes more time to achive things. When you enter Giran for the first time, you'll be blown away cause of the number of people of there. Just have some patient for the game and .. if you dont you can always check private servers but there are some disadvantages (lag, depends on the headgm's pc..., bugs which means that the world map isnt complete etc.., less people, faster experience, for example; on official server you will reach level 60 in 2 months and on a private server you can make it in 3 weeks or even less.)... I recommend this game for people who like to work hard to achieve things, people who have patience, people who like good graphics.

    Sorry,

I missed this. Stupid mmorpg.com notifies of a reply when it feels like it.

Generally speaking, I play within the 20 hr a week time frame. I have 3 kids and work a very time demanding job which requires a lot of travelling. I'm old and more patient then most of the "younger folks" so not hitting a level every time I log in doesn't bother me to much. Its just going to take you a greater time period to level up. Meaning if it takes 40 hours to hit level X. Someone playing 40 hours a week will do it in one, where it will take you 2. That kind of thing doesnt faze me to much. Make no mistake, L2's grind gets very tough later on.

    I play for fun.

The problem with many MMOers in all games is they "work". Work the grinds, "powerlevel", work this aspect...whatever. They rush and hurry through the games content like its a race and most never even bother to read the lore or quest. Then they complain there isn't enough to do in a game after they rip through it in two months.

I checked it out Torak, then cancelled my account. Bot to normal player ration was 1:30 - 1:50. No wonder when you have a company like NcSoft that loves cheaters as long as they pay enough accounts.

It's just too boring to play a MMO without real players.

Yeah, I was pissed and fed up with all the nonsence that goes on in MMO's so I dump all refernce to them in my sig.

Between NCSoft and L2, SOE ruining everything they try and turbine  who are not even sure what an MMO is anymore..its enough to make you stop playing them altogether.

Anyway, I returned to DAoC and its seen alot of improvements since the last time I played 3 years ago. I suggest anyone looking for a PvP game with purpose with a working economy and deverse characters and world give it a go.

If that SD in your sig stands for Supreme Destiny .. you will be overwhelmed by the good graphics which lineage has and sd misses.
