Okay, so I've played SW:G on and off for three years now. I've quit in frustration three times, and I've only been an active subscriber for 18 months out of the 36 months since I bought the game. I'm not one of the many players with the 'battered wife syndrome' - I know that in general the game sucks; I know that the developers are incompetent; I know we're extremely unlikely to see the game meet its potential, especially since NGE; and I would leave at the drop of a hat if I could find a game that had half the entertainer content that SWG has.
As a dedicated musician in SWG I have at my disposal nearly 20,000 combinations of flourishes/songs/instruments/effects. No other game comes close to this amount of content, and many have no musical or dance content whatsoever. As a player who prefers a social and non-combat game experience all I need from a MMOG is entertainer content or at least a healthy tavern atmosphere with people getting together just for the fun of telling stories or entertaining each other in some way. So, as a discerning and critical player, it seems to me that SW:G, although horribly flawed, is the only place for me to get what I need from a game.
If anyone can direct me to a game that has some musical content or a healthy and fulfilling tavern experience please do so in this thread, as I desperately want to get away from the abortion that SW:G has become, but I just don't see a real alternative.

I call it going out with friends. The game is called real life. Its free to play. J/K
You mean you want a sandbox game? I heard DDO might add in bard at some point but haven't heard anything about it since it was in beta that overwhelmingly positive.
It will have everything you need.
Sometime.
Okay, just kidding. But why is it only entertainer players get these sorts of jokes? I have a real life. When I go online I'd like to enjoy the same social activities that other MMOG players enjoy.
If players can't keep from insulting me or my in-game profession (even in joke) I wish they would just stay away.
And it pisses me off more at SOE/LA
Unfortunately, SWG has the only entertainer content in town. Too bad SWG does not want the fanbase that would appreciate that content.
There is a very slim chance that an independant MMORPG based outta Illinois might make it to live and it would have entertainer content. But it is a very slim hope...

I've seen more entertainers leave this game than I've seen "entertainers" in other games.
You know, the whole RP entertainer community in AO, wich was huge at the time, left AO to play SWG. Hundreds of players, just because SWG offered a cantina gameplay.
None of those players are in SWG any more. Most went back to AO to RP entertainers again, because at least in AO, the rest of the players aprechiated their way of play.
Heck, I just need to go into MXO, and I'll find more people at a party than I find players in Eisley....
SOE killed the pooch Beery. No other games offer what SWG does, but SOE doesn't want you and the non combat players any more, nor does the NGE players want you.
It's a dark future for non "whack-a-mole" players.
The last of the Trackers
I really don't think there is any game out there that is going to meet the same abilities and tools an Entertainer has at their disposal in SWG. It is one of the unique qualities of SWG that has yet to be brought out by any other mmorpg. I have just recently begun playing again, and I am enjoying it. And slowly, people are coming to see for themselves what SWG has to offer and some are staying, hoping as I am that SOE can turn things around. They are slowly getting there, we'll just have to see what happens.
I realize I said I quit. I never said it was forever
Second Life has a very healthy nightclub scene that you might enjoy. If all the sex bothers you, though, don't mess with it. The game is VERY adult oriented. But, a basic account is also free.
It's the ultimate in sandbox play. The game is just a platform with almost all the content generated by players, so people design clothes, party, very much like the social players did in SWG.

But yeah, this has meant I don't get to play an entertainer either.

Hi there Beery, welcome to the rip-the-heads-off-chickens show that is the Galaxies part of these forums.
I haven't seen any hint anywhere of a game with the music and dance and ID options Galaxies has. It is too bad because it is a ton of fun to be an entertainer in game. As much as they've taken away any player interdependency type purpose, it is still a hoot.
Take someone like myself who can't play a note in the real world. There I was, Master Musician, playing along in a packed Coronet cantina just wishing they would find a way to make it so everyone didn't have to be playing the same song as the lowest skilled musician in the group. Who knew that was as good as it would get, and that those were the most glorious times for ents.
I remember reading on the Musician forums lots of people saying they were real life musicians, and they loved the game but would really like to be able to actually compose some songs. I wish that the devs had found a way to allow that. It could just be a blast to have the ability to buy someone's compositions, or art in game. Maybe someday, but not in a galaxy far far away, thats for sure.
I know how you feel Beery. I find myself looking at the skills/professions list in MMOs hoping to find the ability to be some type of entertainer but haven't found anything so far. If only SOE had realized what it had.
* Player music
The player music system in Roma Victor is probably the most
sophisticated player music system in any contemporary virtual world. A
broad range of authentic ancient musical instruments have been
painstakingly brought back to life, each with their own unique set of
notes. Player musicians can learn songs, play together and entertain
the masses in full 3D sound. No musical knowledge is required to join
in and the more you play a particular instrument, the better your
character's skill with it will become, meaning less mistakes and bigger
tips!
It isn't implemented yet, but then again not too much is. I haven't bought the game yet (waiting for some more development) but there is no monthly fee so I may purchase soon and check in from time to time. Either way, this feature (when it gets implemented) is about as close as it gets to what you asked for.
Just my 2 cents.

Agreed... SOE litteraly scammed us. You remember, right? RV doesn't deny what it is or what it isn't. They are truthful and THANKFULL for their players....
what you heard is wrong.
you wanna know where to find Ent content?
go roll a Smuggler. They've been ignored for even longer......................

EDIT: OMG, you haven't even play the game!!! So why promote it the way you do? Unbelievable!
Seriously, buy the game play it for a few weeks then post how you feel about it, I'll bet you have a whole new outlook on Roma Victor.. And yes I played it for a month (when It would let me log on that is).
I sleep with a pillow under my gun.
(Remember folks, next time you feel like cussing at a dev, there's probably a beancounter or a lawyer lurking in the background going "oooh we can't do that! Now pay my bill and I'll tell you some other stuff not to do". GRRR!!)
And then there was the 'scribe' profession who would have been able to make and sell 'recordings' or 'sheet music'....
oh the chances missed
