I play EVE as well and the folks at mythic would do well to give it a try also. The core of all PVP action in EVE IS RvR warfare, or Factional warfare as the game nomenclature goes. And the best thing is it doesnt happen cause of some ruleset thats been synthetically grafted on over the game rules but rather cause its what people have to do to survive and actually control zones or protect their interests in the area they live in.

Personally i hate the fact that because someone at some point in game design history decided to come up with "concensual" pvp we now have to play lame games who are crippled by extra rulesets dedicated to create "safe" but unnatural enclosures.

LOL I know you just mentioned it and I warned you :) I saw what was coming and intercepted another fanboi EVE missile about to hijack this threat mister, now eyes up here and back on topic jerky.

What people forget is that this Warhammer Online has nothing to do with the one that was started some time ago, and then given up. This Warhammer Online is based more on the battle game with figures rather than Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, which was what the old WO was based on. So sure maybe they'll stay true to the game, but it will be nothing like what many people think.

LOL kekek I think you're confused. Mythic doesn't surprise people. It's going to be what we all expect, a DaoC clone with races that dont look like crap.

I can see why people look at this and think WoW clone... it's another fantasy MMO with a similar graphical style.

As has been pointed out, WoW borrowed it's style from Warhammer in the first place but thats kinda beside the point... the reason it'll be a better game (or more to my taste at any rate) is PvP.

WoW pvp sucks.  The only people I know still playing WoW are the PvEers and people for whom it was their first MMO.

All the hardcore PvPers from my guild, and others I'm friendly with have moved back to games like DAoC and EVE (sorry Gorukha!) which have PvP that actually changes the game rather than just earning your individual character honour (ego) points.

I can fight in a WoW pvp instance for 100 years and win every fight but never make a jot of difference on the actual world.  My achievements will never free lands from the grip of an enemy, will never allow my side access to new ares of content, will never mean my enemy pulls out of a region or suffers material losses.  It's meaningless except for bragging rights.

For those of you who think that this game copies WoW, it doesn't. The RvR mentioned in this article is similar to mythics other game DAOC. WoW's pvp does not live up, and will never live up to Daocs rvr when it was in its prime. Though I will say, it looks like they took Daocs rvr concept and just copied to Warhammer with a little different objectives.

I'm REALLY looking forward to this game!

First of all I love the Warhammer universe even though I have never played the miniature game. And that Mythic Entertainment makes it makes it even better! And the footage that's leaked out fo far looks great! WAR will either the next generation of MMOG's or the greatest disappointment in Mythics history.. *crossing fingers for the first alternative*

This game will definently kick ass, and like everyone says it looks like WoW..or rather WoW looks like the tabletop game this game is based on.

However the lore and such is totally diffrent and much more thourough since this game has been around for alot of years and worked on before it was even made into a mmorpg

Well, I personally don't care which was first. The makers of this game and WOW are pretty much the only two game developers who seem to know what a dwarf should look like and that alone puts them above anything like EQ2 or DDO. Now if they can match the Gameplay and fun factor of WOW they will have a hit on their hands.

I love mythic with a passion. They made one of the better pvp systems in any MMO to date( wow shouldve taken a page out of their book). I love warhammer series as well but PLEASE do not make the graphics look like WoW. I really really do not want to see this becoming a trend in graphics.

    - Open PvP certainly is enjoyable in a MMORPG (I personally couldn't agree more).
    - Realm vs Realm certainly is enjoyable in a MMORPG (I personnally dislike the concept, but that's just me ok? Plus, I have never tried :p).
    - Capture The Flag certainly is enjoyable in a MMORPG (ok, maybe not)

The thing is Mythic shouldn't just choose one of these forms of PvP for WAR, IMHO. Mixing them would be the safest way to attract the highest number of PvP-oriented players (and they certainly don't represent 5% of the MMO community as some say). Add really original and fun ideas to this mix (cf. ~ Age of Conan) and you have a really attractive PvP system that is safe for Mythic to use.

Even if I don't entirely agree with the concept - it's not realistic -, Open PvP with immunities is one way to add Open PvP to any MMO :
1-> click on "activate PvP", wait 20min (to avoid abuse), ding! you can kill stuff /taunt /ouchhewastougherthanithought
2-> click on "deactivate PvP", wait 20min, ding! you are safe to do your quests /carebearkissiloveyou

As an Open PvP fanboi, give me that on top of the RvR, with my PvP skill and not my equipment being the most important, and I'll probably play WAR ad vitam eternam. Others would for their own reasons. Everyone's happy.

    Back on the topic :

I'm starviiiing... neeeed updated infooooo on the gaaaame conteeent... Hurry up Mythic ! ;)

By the way, can anybody tell me if, as a greenskin, for instance, I will (at least sometimes) be able to fight against High Elves and Empire, or just Dwarves, in these RvRs, assuming it's exactly the same as in DAoC ? (which I don't know at all, and the answer is not that easy to find :S) Thanks in advance.

Oh, and the orcs ride boars, not bears.

Yep. True, true. Warcraft is a rip-off of Warhammer Fantasy Battles, tabletop miniature wargaming.

The first edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battles was released by Games Workshop in early 1983. Warhammer has developed a very recognizable stylistic image set. Skulls feature prominently, as well as gothic architecture, absurdly large weapons and shoulder-armor, and bizarre imagery reminiscent of director Terry Gilliams work, as well as a strong dose of dark comedy.

Many recent games have borrowed from Warhammer's distinctly exaggerated imagery, most notably the Warcraft universe. The particular green-skinned Warhammer Orcs and Goblins have infiltrated games as diverse as Warcraft, Magic: The Gathering, and Mage Knight. Warcraft also features a creation story very similar to that of Warhammer.

Some excerpts from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warhammer_Fantasy. Further info on Warhammer is here: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/default.htm

I also would not be bothered if there was no tradeskillls. Glad people like them and I do practice them if I play though not much.
Be glad when Beta gets here and there will be more information even is just a little more.

Personally, I would like Bretonnian's to be a player race. The ability to Pray before combat would give you awesome bonuses for knight characters (plus, if there is a way to incorporate such intangibles as morale, Bretonnians have some great morale, although perhaps not as great as Dwarves).

Beastmen would also be a nice player race to have instituted.

Not to mention, Fanatics, as a goblin class would have been interesting

    Now that would be cool.

I'm a fan of PvP and won't be playing this game.  Just doesn't look like something I would enjoy.

I bet I'll get super flamed for this...  just because I don't express my love for a game... people will tell me I'm stupid, young, spoiled, flamming, spamming, trolling, etc... don't post if you don't like it replies.

So, all those people who dissagree with things should just die?  So everyone in the world who doesn't like something should be allowed to express their opinion?

    Please.

If you don't have favorable comments, or comments that are constructive, then why bother posting? Otherwise, you ARE flaming.

True. I was really ticked that the original Warhammer online game was scrapped.

My hobby shop sold Games Workshop miniatures, and from what my rep told me at the time the original game had been scrapped, due to embezzlement of funds by the developing company.

In my opinion, this is what also led to the pricing of warhammer miniatures increasing in price, because it happened almost right after the online game was scrapped (although my rep said that the minatures price change was due to the tin used in the figures becoming more expensive; don't buy that explanation, however).

According to http://www.warhammeronline.com/english/gameInfo/gameOverview/, it states RvR combat takes place on three fronts where ancient foes wage an unending war – Dwarfs vs. Greenskins, High Elf vs. Dark Elf, and Empire vs. Chaos. Players begin the game fighting their ancestral enemy, but are free to journey to other fronts to help their allies in their ongoing struggles. So, yes, you should be able to journey to other areas.

About the comment of how each race can go onto other areas. I am really looking forward to this since to begin with would be enjoyable to understand your lands and help fight for this . Over time you may see different races coming to explore and yet even helping to fight for your cause. This gives the incentive to fight and see how great you work together.  And after carefully looking through Dwarfs and Greenskins in their classes , they work differently as a team and I'm excited to just wonder how other races work well for their race in how their style is . Then later onwards traveling to different areas to fight with allies and different enemies . Mixed style of helping one another is going to be interesting.  I hope they truly have it worked out well and not only that but balancing issues too.  I'll just have to wait and see about this though.
