Great.  Then why don't the undo this shit and give us classic servers?

Could be that is what's next.  At least they are over the denial stage.  Still some in there though, the game is NOT as solid as it ever has been, it's far worse.  Better than at NGE launch, yes, but that isn't saying much.

It's STILL not as good of a game as it was the day they pulled the CU.

Unreal, I just want to call each and every single Dev that spewed crap at the last fanfest and just shove this into thier email.

Sometimes it takes leaders or execs to say what is needed.   In this sense I am glad they said this, it will put a muzzle on alot of shit talk from the NGErs and more.

OH AND IF YOU THINK THIS IS POSITIVE NGE SWG talk about the game lasting a long time then I need you to PM me for some land I have for sale in New Orleans please.

Man, I waited 9 months to see this at this level.  I wanted Smedley to be the one to do this but oh well, I will take what I can get.

Can't wait to see the replies from the Devs on this one.

Now how on Earth can you get out of this?  I mean what is there to say even?

This will stress the mods out some.  They can hardly argue that a discussion by our own Devs at the AGC about the current game isn't current game discussion, can they?

I think this is the first step towards them doing classic servers.  It's their only way out.

And the article backs up what I and others have been saying about the sub base, down by half...

Yeah thats what I gathered from the article. They messed up, they realised it but they are going to press with what they have since their "game now is as solid as it's ever been".

The article doesn't back that up at all. The author said that off the rumor estimates he's heard. No one will ever know till SOE releases the numbers, which we will likely never see.

Yep -- again more ammo of facts right from the horses mouth.

For the poster above.... "Press on?" --- Ok in case you have not gamed a long time.  These are things you NEVER say about your live product FYI.

Telling the current player base that this whole thing was a mistake is not exactly saying you are confident in your product or the people that run it.

But hey... the NGE is doing well right?   lol

    I gotta ask this...

So, They admit they made a mistake.

    They screwed up the game.

They shouldn't have made the changes.

They should have listened to their players.

If it means that they made a mistake and are going to live and learn from it, then I'm the loser here.

I still won't have my game back.

I don't think the author would have just picked the number out of the air.  You can get the number if you know who to talk to, and all these industry reporters do.  Notice he didn't specify a number, it was just said "down by half".

I think you're right too. But, I think that resigning to the fact that you've screwed up and are admitting defeat also means that twilight is upon us, and forever sleep SWG will soon.

Oooh!  Here is a juicy quote:

Then, while the game is being made, it's important for the developers to play it themselves. Blakely recalled talking to Dave Georgeson, producer of SOE's Planetside, right after it shipped, and asking what the most important lesson learned was.

"He said, 'Get the team to play the game earlier,'" Blakely said. Deciding whether the goals of the project are being met needs to come from playing the game, he said, which has led internally at SOE to the requirement that production milestones need to be playable.

So, I take it to mean that the developers thought up the NGE, coded it, and when it hit the point of no return finally started playing it?  No wonder they didn't want players to know about it until they had all the pre-orders in for ToOW.

LOL, never said NGE was doing well, I was merely quoting the guys exact words :

" I want people to learn what we've learned in that process. We took a big risk, and we learned. There was some really positive stuff, and the game now is as solid as it's ever been, our people have done a great job – we got the bug count down to about half of what it's been in the past six months. But what I would have done differently was be more sensitive to the target audience. The audience you launch with is the one you've got"

i.e - Yeah we should have listened to all the folks screaming "NO", but we like what we got and are going to press ahead.

"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

The majority of the players they have (they've admitted to more than 80% in the past) are pre-NGE.  Most of those are pre-CU.  There are just less and less of them each month as people give up on the game.

They still have this problem of a game that only a tiny size their existing population likes, and the general feeling is AT BEST tolerance.

And the guy did say that who you LAUNCH with is your playerbase.  That was the pre-CU crowd.  I definately see some serious hope here for at least classic servers.

Which will end up being a rollback without being a rollback, because that is where the population will go.  No one will stay with NGE in any significant number.

That would be the smart, face saving play at this point, introduce classic servers, move the population there, make them fresh servers, shut down the NGE servers due to lack of intrest a few months down the road.

Blammo, you've got your rollback without rolling back, and your server consolidation at the same time.

I gain NO respect for them until they do something about it.  They just admitted that they fucked us over deliberately, and paid dearly for it.  So, what are they going to do about it?  That 1/2 of the sub base isn't going to magically reappear without drastic action.  Nor are they going to replace that 1/2 with NEW players when the game has half it's former (and most of it's current) sub base screaming STAY AWAY, THESE DEVS SCREW PEOPLE OVER!!!

    Actions speak louder than words.
