Which MMORPG is next to release?

Anyone know which one of the Big Boys (ie. UXO, DnL, EQ2, Wow) is next in line to be released and when?

IMO EQ is the only ORPG that got it right to date.  But if WoW comes out first I'll give that a shot.

I did EQ for the years from beginning and while I really enjoyed it and it is the ONLY game that has held me for over 2 years I will have to go for WoW now.  EQ got to the point that unless you were in a constant group there was nothing you could do and it left little for the solo player to be able to advance as in the beginnnig.  Now there is nothing wrong with that but groups lead to agrovation when it is you and 3 e-bayers who say "how to I do that assist thing again"

Anyway both sound good but I will try WoW

As I remember, if you wanted to solo you needed to be a druid or necromancer.  As an enchanter I could solo in the plains also when groups were scarce.  I guess I may have to go back and start all over /cry, if theres no MMO's till October.  I wont play Lineage2 due to the fairy like char mods.

Blizzard usually have tons of delay but...they are almost in Beta and June is the regular release dates for Blizzard, so it might bereally close to the dates announced.

EQ2, even if Beta is not even announced yet, they do a lot of pseudo-beta in old plain EQ atm...

    We will see.

You shouldn't forget that blizzard has already delayed this games numerous times already.  Remember those portal opens inserts.  Remeber the possible release date for June of last year.  Hell I still have a 10 preorder at eb from last years release date.

Keep faithful guys, the games gotta ship soon, they can't keep delaying it forever, and this beta is a real good sign of progress.

Cripes I dont get what takes so long.  I mean sure you have to get all the content in and setup the servers etc, but years?  It seems like they would put a rush on new MMORPGs to beat out all the others, but I never see that happening.

You obviously pay very little attention to the MMOG industry.

Ian your posts that I have seen contribute nothing to the thread, try including some information rather than just trying to flame.

It has taken 4-5 years just to make HalfLife 2... and the game world of MMO's are much larger than HL2's. Anyhow, it takes alot to balance everything and make new items and stuf like that.

Yeah but that seems self defeating, I mean if its taking that long then by the time youre ready to release, your graphics engine is outdated.

The information is evident and availble, and anyone who has payed any attention to the industry for any major release over the last 6 years would be clearly aware that MMOGs are pushed to release with numerous issues, including and not limited to: lack of content, instability, show-stopping bugs, class imbalances, and poor optimization.

Does that information suffice for you?

I really can't wait for Everquest 2.  I am also looking forward to Dark and Light.  I know these games will be delayed.  June has been the big month set for the release of WoW and EQ2.  I seriously doubt either of them will arrive until months after that.  The Beta hasn't even started for them.  They are both ambitious games from what I have read, and huge in scope.  That means more work to do by the devs, which leads to more time.  Blizzard in particular, knowing their reputation, will scrutinize every little detail before the game is released.  Although I hate waiting for MMORPGs to come out, I hope that all companys would make sure that the finished product is indeed finished and if it takes months longer than expected, well, that sucks for us, but in the long run it will be good, as long as the game is in top form when we get it on our computers.  I am really pulling for EQ2 in the race.

  • ramadinramadin Member Posts: 1,304

Yeah EQ2 and Dark and Light are my two top picks also.  I read on Amazon.com that pre-orders for EQ2 are being shipped in October.  It was June but it changed...  this doesnt make me real happy.  May have to give WoW a shot.

From the news and press releases from Sony its sounding like EQ2 will be a "late" 4th quarter release though they have of course not set a for sure date.  In one of the recent articles they indicated they were dedicated to getting the game out in 2004 which led many to believe they are working hard to avoid a 2005 release.

WoW being a Blizzard game could come out anywhere from 2 months to 2 years from now.  image

I think Lineage 2 and maybe UXO will be the next two big fantasy mmorpg releases.

  • TymoraTymora Member UncommonPosts: 1,295

I agree with you Misty.  Lineage II and UXO seem like they are on track to release before the other big titles.  I am looking into Lineage II, and I am just starting to check out stuff on UXO (I am a fan of Ultima Online, but never played or did much reading about Lineage).  I am very disturbed to hear that the pre-orders of EQ2 may ship in Oct 2004, but this was my fear, and I will have to keep myself busy with FFXI and SWG for now.  I will wait for the release of Lineage II in a couple of months and be here on the boards afterwards,  checking everyones opinion before I go out and buy it.  It is hard to keep up with Dark and Light, though, the website is not too informative, or I am looking in the wrong places.  The forum is 75% french speaking, so that is not a big help.  I hope the development on that game is getting along alright.  Please, what ever you do, nobody tell me that Guild Wars is going to be delayed.

  • nalamonnalamon Member Posts: 24
I would rather them push it back then release an unfinished game, or you will come up with games like SWG, that game should have been pushed back a few months. so these games need to take there time to get it right, even though it sucks

  • ramadinramadin Member Posts: 1,304

Yeah I agree, but since theres so much money to be made in this field, you would think they could afford to hire the number of people they need to get it out to the public without waitin a year from Alpha to release.

You're not making money to pay for extra help until the game is released.

Uh, you dont need any extra money up front if you are Blizzard or SOE so that arguement doesnt hold water.
