Do you want npcs in epic battles or just pure competitive pvp?

I like fighting PvP way more than PvE anyways. But what do you guys like?

In The Border Kingdom it will be PvP. Where players attack/deffend against other Players.

In the Player Villages it will be PvE. Where players attack/deffend NPCs.

Both. I could never imagine just doing one of them, hopefully AoC will meet my needs.

Yeah you're right having both would be badass actually.

Both would be great! If having npcs in epic battles adds to the storyline(s), I say, that's the way to go.

Played Wow, D and L, AOC, GW, Eve, Rift and many more insignificant games.

This is where I come from guys.  You see I would only like EPIC battles if they are really epic and if they have to add 1000 (having fun with #'s lol) NPC's I think that would be cool.

    BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If there are enough real players I would like to have a HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE battle with just people.  And by huge I wish someday technology would let up 300k per server lol that would be one nice battle.  If that happend you guys would see me like this

I guess it depends on if your actions have any effect on your faction NPC's. For example, can you control them as a squad or perhaps trigger them to help push back if you complete a certain goal. If they're just fodder for the battle, that's kind of boring. If they're an effect of the battle swaying from one side to another, it's interesting, but if you're in control of them, as in a squad, that's pretty epic. There of course would need to be balance so that players made more of a difference on an individual basis than NPC's, but that's because players should be more special than NPC's -- afterall, NPC's don't pay a monthly fee! ::::14::

    so...

I too, would like to see massive battles with thousands of real players involved. Not just in this game but for all kind of imaginable battles, historic, modern or space warfare. But afaik the technology to do this just isn't there yet, but eventually it will be. Up till then I can live with NPC making up parts of the forces one has to fight.

Mass amounts of trash mobs are always good in battle, it adds to the hero feel in my opinion. Of course there are always a few players who are either new or less talented at a certain type of pvp but all in all there's really no harm in adding a few lesser NPC as cannon fodder. Mix some special/boss mobs and higher skilled players and you've got a good battle.

Overall I do of course prefer a pvp fight over a pve, since it's more exciting and they usually pose a higher challenge but there's still no harm in adding a few NPC to round it all up.

Every NPC that is important (not cannon fodder) in a PvP zone should be exclusively run by GMs, and they should have some general lines to follow, but no more...even if they aren't there often, I am sure it would give a kick ass experience to have a GM run a NPC, your group would be freak out if you are caught alone with that powerful NPC...anyway, just a though.

Not to mention that the staff, would prolly love to play NPCs in their free time, especially after reading the forum board, going in a killing spree would prolly please the staff and for the player, victory would really mean something.

Funcom does something similar all of the time in Anarchy Online, although its ARKs in controll not the regular GMs. I once was in Rome when I saw about 20 ARKs "dressed up" as OMNI-POL guards, they were being followed by a massive group of players as they were searching the city for something, stopping "citizens" to ask them questions. Turns out they were searching for the source of an odd untracable signal coming from somewhere inside the walls. The signal turned out to be a beacon for an impending attack. The guards/ARKs rushed to the site in time to fight alongside the players against a massive wave of invaders.

Events like this, large and small, occur all the time. It can be a little hard to be in the right spot for one, but they are there. Funcom intends to create a version of the ARK program here in Age of conan too. If, like in AO, they have a department devoted to the creation and acting out of events, I can certainly see them sending in powerfull characters to aid and abet certain of the massive PVP battles

Hope they would make it like:

if its a 40v40 (lagfest?) and like 34 show up on one, then NPC's can compensate.

That right there would be amazing, if they did that for AoC.

I could only imagine a GM controled character running through the village shouting out at everyone to get at arms. If they did it right it could add a whole other level of immersion to the game.

You gotta have both, think of the heroes/villains (the PC's) cutting a path through the footsoldiers (NPC's) to square off with one another! Great stuff. Kind of like Hector and Ajax in Troy...this makes for some epic battles.

Depends on the implementation.  I want to fight even challenges. . .   World PvP like that in DAoC leaves me bored because of all the times you go to the battleifield and the other side didn't pick the same type to fight, or they are at some other location, etc.  Or when you show up and your side has two people and you are facing a horde of like 50 players and it is simply hopeless.

Thus I really only play instanced PvP with fair sides anymore.

Likewise, I will like the PvE elements of villages if they create a fun and challenging situation - but not a hopeless one.  I don't want to kill the PvE raiders with ease, but I also don't want a challenge so hopeless that it isn't really a challenge but a boring pre-ordained defeat.

Also, your poll really needs Both as an option as I think a lot of players really like both and the fact that they are delivering both is one of AoC's strengths.
