Things I didn't like about UO.

Sir-SvenSir-Sven Member Posts: 773

This is a list of the things that drove me away from UO, if you're sick of hearing people complain about it, then don't read it. This is for mature people only.

1. I didn't like how UO, or EA for that matter, always rewarded the veterans with items that never would have existed in real life, yeah I know it's a fantasy game and it should have that stuff, but it was so much funner and more RPG like when there was mounts that were vulnerable and killable. (Yea, I was a veteran and got those mounts and stuff), but I didn't like how they rewarded people who bought AoS by giving them stuff that regular UOers couldn't have or what not.

2. The wave of newbie mage-tamers.

3. The wave of newbies.

4. People that are so immature they curse their heads off just over small things. That drives me nuts.

5. The introduction of bola balls and those messed up orc camps that spawned.

6. When they got rid of those town monster spawns. The guards couldn't kill them, I loved when monsters spawned in town.

7. New magic effects, the effect of Mind Blast.

8. How easy it was for people to gain skills.

9. Later, when AoS came out, how the skills were worthless and they didn't matter anymore, but the ARMOR was more important than the skills.

10. The new house types.

11. The creatable pottery.

12. The plantable plants.

13. Trammel.

14. Newbies in Trammel that talk so much shit.

15. Theres so much more, but by the time I finished, i'd be really old.

You hit on most points that I remember from UO.  UXO should be new and improved. Are you gonna get that?

Sir Seven its good to see guys out there that have/had the same views on UO that I did, all of em too. I was gonna get UOX but I heard its no or consensual pvp. F that weak bs.

Haha. I don't think I'm going to play UO:X because it will never be like the UO that I played, and it's 3d. For the most part, i'm not crazy about 3d. UO:X dosn't look too bad, but I can't bring myself to play it either. :(

    Agreed... Completely :)

As for the graphics in UO. 2d Rocks, I don't care what anyone says. 3d looks as if it could be fun if done right, I just haven't seen that happen yet. The set up in UO was Sweet. Overhead view, could see all around you, could chat without a stupid chat box. Man, I hate chat boxes :/ UO has always had the best communication methods.

And skill gain. No one has UO beat when it comes to their skill progression system. Choosing any skill that you want, with a max of course is just awesome. I'm not the biggest fan of leveling, but I will be purchasing UXO purely based on my hopes for a miracle. Though I am already let down by the serious lack of pvp in UXO :(

This person just summed up my 4 years on UO in a short, sweet, and easy to read post. you ppl should kiss his feet or something.

But I'm gonna tell you why UO has been around for so long... the atmosphere of the game.  If not for that, it would have died pre 3D.

Life is what you do untill you die... so have fun. :P

  • Sir-SvenSir-Sven Member Posts: 773

Hell yeah, i'm not going to go play UO for free.... not until they make it the way everyone liked it. I'm atleast going to wait until they come crawling back, and if they don't than i'll never play UO again.

I recently decided to try out UO again after such a long absence.  It's still pretty good, but this Trammel/Felucca nonsense has to be put to bed.  I play on Felucca on the Chesapeake shard, and man, there's hardly anyone around.  Everyone stays in the safe (and stupid) Trammel facet or in the newer lands from the expansions.

One of my gripes IS the chat system.  Communication in that game is downright prehistoric.  An email system or IM system is sorely needed to make it easier to communicate.  Another gripe I had with chat (that doesn't apply now with such a sparse population) was in the old days there'd be dozens of people around the banks yelling over each other making it impossible to read any messages.  A chat window would easily fix that, and they could make it optional so those of you that don't like it, wouldn't be forced to use it.

I'll probably stick with UO for a few months, but I forsee my nostalgia wearing off soon as alot of what I remember has changed sooo much.  Oh how I long for the old days.

I totally agree. UO was the best the first year it was out.  I loved hiding on peoples door steps and waiting till they opened there doors and rushed in and killed them and looted everything they had.  Taking there key and they couldnt use the house ever again.  LOL.. the key thing was pathetic but I liked rushing houses.

  • crzybrtndrcrzybrtndr Member Posts: 94

First, it's UXO, not UOX.......it's not a sequal to nor related in any way, other than sharing the Ultima name, to UO.  It's meant to continue the single player Ultima games.

Secondly, you are correct in stating that UXO will not have open PvP, it will all be consentual.  UXO will be about helping the Avatar defeat the Guardian, so you're supposed to play a hero, not a villain.  So rampant Pking for thrills is not an option.

Third, I agree with all of you that UO blows now.  It's a real joke of a game.

  • GravelboneGravelbone Member Posts: 15

well, I really did not like the AOS expansion. Heres my reasons.

    1. PvP is unbalanced. (PvP meaning consentual guild PvP)

2.Loot nerfed and player economy has risen

    3. You need luck to get decent items off monsters.

    4. High luck armor resistances are poor, how can you hunt bloods with low resistance armor.

    5. Alot of scamms / exploits in this game.

which leads me to the final straw, ARTIFACTS. I have been hunting in the guantlet for about 4 months and I did notice that it does not seem very random. I have several reasons for this opinion but lack the time to post them. I am currently waiting for my next mmo. I leaning towards WoW and hessitant about UXO because EA is a part of it.                OZ...

well i like UO alot... i play it on my friend's server together with my friends. Well i find the grafics really great, and i really appreciate the implementations that this game has. What i mean is that many of the things one can wish to have in ORPGs (for example houses, horses, owning shops) are implemented.

The only thing i do not like in UO is the fact that for example everyone can become good in every skill in the game. For example i do not aggree that all three types of magic (which are Chivalry, Necormancy and Magery) can be trained ALL THREE by THE SAME CHARACTER. This i apply to many other special skills. This makes it useless to ask the player what he wishes to become as an occupation in the beginning(such as mage, warrior, paladin etc...)

This comes to it that to be a good player, you need to have chivalry, necromancy and magery @ 100, aparrt from the other combat skills... i mean its not cool to be grandmaster in all types of magic...

Well anyway, i still find UO a very good ORPG... the best i ever played.

Not all that is hooded is evil...

well ill add my two cents.

    1) the number one most hated thing in UO, people who tattle to a GM about someone saying the word "rape" or "Kill" the GMs are so dumb that they take this as real threats. EA sucks with everything they do and I will never buy another game from them.

2)plantable plants were so stupid, no one wanst the stupid enhancment leafs they suck

    3) Puttin blackthorns scythe in fel with 400 people trying to get it.  not only does it lag but the chances of escaping are rediculous if u have it.

    4)customizable houses

    5) turnign dmg ratio to make it so a 4x gm swords cant even hang witha  drake anymore.

    6) screwing up bards (i was able to prov ancient wrymms before) after i coudltn even prov a drake.

    this is why i quit.

True, doesn't matter if it's 2D or 3D. At least the gameplay is really cool. Better than playing that RO with good graphic but bad game play image

UO was considered the cesspit of MMORPGs before they made 'carebear' shards, or perhaps that was just because Shadowbane wasn't out yet. It was a ludicrous murderfest, and I don't know what kind of antisocial rejects get their thrills that way. Somehow my view of the Ultima world never included the term 'l33t dewds', and I suspect that they were somehow the #1 cause of the franchise being murdered.

No really, Lord British saw all this crap going on in UO, assumed these were actually Ultima fans, and punished us with Ultima X. It's the only logical conclusion. (edit: I mean Ultima X, not Ultima X Online)
