I played WoW as my second MMORPG ever. I played Ragnarok Online in the beta in the old days, but other than that. Nothing. WoW was nice, until level 60. Where you felt that except gaining rare equipement there was not really anything interesting to do. It's not my subscrition day. I've decided to cancel the subcription for a while to decide If I give WoW another try or not.

I've tried two other MMORPG.

EVE Online free trial. But the game is based to much on economic for me. The economic system is really good and structurized. But I like it when there is more action, without being a basher like WoW.

FFXI for 1 month, The game was nice and pretty, but the interface and control made me leave the game an I went back to WoW. I'm wondering If I could gve FFXI another try.. since I was style below level 20. ( I just had my chocobo actually ). I've heard the true thrill of the game is in the high level, but still... too console like for a PC user. I like console game, but on console only.

Guilds Wars : It's nice. but not a MMORPG for me. I like playing in a real world with people everywhere. not instanced zone.

So. I've heard of some MMORPG out there. But I would like the advice of player that played these game for a while or even more than one of these game so they can compare it. Helping me to make a fine choice. I was about to try Archlord Beta and also EQ2 Trial.
Also. There are some game that are about to come out. anything really big I should wait for?

I hope you can help me making the best choice for my interest.
IF you could post a comment on a game by featuring the feature and the good and the bad side. I'm a open player so any genre while pleased me if the content is there.

Thank you.

If the control key was the key issue for disliking FFXI, maybe you should buy a cheap PS2-ish gamepad for your PC? Maybe you'll like it much better.

That said, FFXI isn't my game. In truth, not many MMORPGs are at the moment. But still, I can see what is appealing to FFXI for some people.

    Give EQ2 a try?

    MMO migrant.

  • EQ2 is very similar to WoW, but I think its a bit better quality.  However it is not that different, they are extremely similar and all operate off the EQ-clone model.

I've also heard about Ryzom. Seem like a different MMORPG from the usual one.
One with a little more role-play in it. I played in a RP server on WoW, that's why I played for so long.. but the quality of RP was not so good and the frequency was really bad. ( I also did endgame raiding, but it's still "endgame" :/ )

So.. I should try EQ2 and Ryzom.
Anyone can give me good and bad of these both game?

    I love Saga of Ryzom.

It is a great world with rich lore and a fantastic setting. It has the best MMO community I have ever seen. And it is a free-form, sandbox style game and I happen to love those.

    But...

... if you are looking for a quest-oriented game, Ryzom is not for you. Ryzom, after the trial island, which is a tutorial, has no quests of note anywhere in the game. If you're not into making your own way in the world, and you don't like making up your own stories, but want the game to give the story to you, then Ryzom will bore you. You will think of it as "just a grind."

Now, mind you, as I said, I love it, and I do not think of it as just a grind. But I also participate in guild activities, help orient newbies to the game, etc, rather than spending all my hours "skilling up." If your main goal is to skill up and do quests, Ryzom's not going to make you happy.

On the other hand if you like open-ended games where YOU control the action, not the developers/story-writers, then Ryzom is awesome. They're just this week beta-testing the Ryzom Ring, which will basically be like an NWN toolset within the game, that will let you set up your own instanced areas and DM them for your friends, etc.

In the long run I find this sort of game play, where I am in control, much more rewarding, but it is not for everyone. Ryzom has a free trial so I would say, give it a whirl. It costs nothing to try it.

FFXI - If you have a year to spend on it, then you will have fun (Level to 75, Subs, Crafting, Questing, Equipment, Etc. Etc.).
