Conspiracy theory,

Farlan Entertainment, the company we all know is coordinating the Dark and Light project, is a sham.

Firstly, i submit there total lack of a corporate website. www.farlan.com redirects back to the mainpage for Dark and Light.

Secondly, the contact page for Dark and Light contains no real information, only email addresses. No phone numbers, no mailing addresses.

Third, The actual street address for Farlan Entertainment is:

Manor House
1 floor, Cnr St George/Chazal Streets
Port Louis
Mauritius

This address was found and cross-checked on several reputable sites, and was also listed on printed material passed out at E3 in 2005.

Mauritius is a small island 560 miles east of Madacascar, in the middle of the Indian Ocean, and is well known as an international tax haven.

Now I ask you to consider: why would a reputable company have no corporate website and purposfully base itself on a remote island well known as a tax haven?

This is what my research has uncovered, check for yourself if you disagree.

------------
but it's no place to start a game company, especially if this is your first (and only ) title, which Dark and Light is (this has been confirmed by several different reputable game sites)

Chances are very slim the company is actually located there, most likely they have a PO box and maybe someone to route the mail back to there real headquarters.

No denying Mauritius is a tropical paradise, but its also a well known overseas tax haven. They could easily take our money, declar bankrupcy, and disapear into the wind, and you can bet the governemnt of Mauritius is just going to do everything in it's power to make sure these criminals are brought to justice.

This is what i think, and granted what follows is purely conjecture based on my research:

Someone had an idea for this great game, and pitched it to a group of unscrupulous people. These people then went and founded Farlan Entertainment to bring that idea to market.

They were able to get the big companies NP3 and SnailGames onboard (SnailGames is one of the largest and msot successful game development companies in china) and all the other major players, who i might add are spread all over the world, thus reducing the chances of communication.

With such big names on the wagon, Farlan was able to attract lots of investors to pay for the game's supposedly massive development costs.

Most of the investor money went into the pockets of Farlan's shareholders, whom cannot be traced because of banking laws on Mauritius.

Thus, despite a large number of people actually believing in the project, Farlan Entertainment, the folks actually running the show, are just in it to suck as much money out as they can and then disapear into the wind.

That's my theory anyway.

Yeah, that OP is really strecthing...

Creating an MMORPG is not a good scam to make money.  The truth is, the reason why everything seems so shady and unprofessional about these people is because they are shady and unprofessional.  Not criminal masterminds who have devised this great sceam to get rich off others.

Basically, they are bunch of kids who got in over their heads.  That is all.

AND stole some technology of which they hope to make some money from. It IS odd that they seem to be promoting the most the very thing which uses the stolen technology more than the actual game itself. The game itself is an obvious goofball excercise but the tech used to create "the biggest world" with which they push this thing called a game and is in fact, its only saving grace, seems to be more the issue than the obvious slapped together highschool hijinx of something they want to call a game.
