Actually, we discussed this at some length and he even triple checked the numbers for us. What else can we do?
You can ask questions.
Oh really? How did you calculate that number?
Did you include x?
Did you take into account y?
What do you say to people who would point out z?
I realize this isn't the Wall Street Journal, but I have seen you ask hard questions in interviews with people you did not feel compelled to treat with kid gloves because of their advertising dollars. You know what to do and how to do it. You just didn't.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests
SOE is a bunch of liars and con-men. Only way they will get my trust back would be trough a refund on the time I lost when I canceled my yearly subscription because they completely changed the game into the NGE.
Sorry, "game play may change" does not mean, "we may switch out this game for a new one." And even if it did, statements like that are not legaly binding. SOE committed fraud, pure and simple.
BTW if we wanna have a class action against them, we have about 1 year and 1 month to file... (I believe a case like this has a statute of limitations of 2 years)
--When you resubscribe to SWG, an 18 yearold Stripper finds Jesus, gives up stripping, and moves with a rolex reverend to Hawaii. --In MMORPG's l007 is the opiate of the masses. --The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence! --CCP could cut off an Eve player's fun bits, and that player would say that it was good CCP did that.
I have been a avid reader of mmorpg.com for quite some time. I dont see how I can take this site seriously again after that poor excuse for an interview. You actually met with SOE to jot that information down? That could have been done through a 10 minuite email.
Sorry to flame but seriously guys, pick your act up.
“Players have been very upbeat on the forums and the questions are mostly about the future and what the game is about moving forward,” added Alan Crosby, Director of Community Relations.
This is a joke right?? who are they kidding? what forums are they looking at Wow?

These comments make me wonder which forums they are talking about. It sure is not the Official ones. and the comment by Alan Crosby is the worst example for how to spin a issue I have seen to date. SOE's public relations staff REALLY needs to learn how to TALK to people. I'm not to sure about the other games but I do know alot about the state of SWG, if not only thru personal experience but from helping out alittle with a podcast that covers SWG. and these comment are just not true.
As for the numbers game SOE can state whatever numbers they want, with stationpass there is no surefire way of getting ANY hard numbers on the number of players in SWG short of posting the number of logged on players over a weeks time. Not just at peak times but for a 24/7 timeperiod. I know EVE does this, in fact they are quite proud to post the number of online players when you log on, and not just a vague " light, medium, or heavy" title but actual numbers. Are there ANY other games that do this? I honestly dont know but it would be interesting to find out.
and for the posts that flame the writers, they just wrote what the people interviewed said, as the article pertained to SWG I dont doubt that the writers had doubt over what WAS said, but from what i have heard from others who HAVE done simular interviews these people have stated that the questions are prescreened, and approved by both SOE AND locus arts, if they are not approved...no interview.

yeah after they lock/delete the bad ones there is plenty of great posts. /macro lock, delete, ban They must be really dizzy over there at SOE.
Nothing they did wrong in the interview, you are just X-SWG players with a gripe. While SOE sucks my right nut at times, I do have to say I know 11 people who have gone back to SWG that left when the crap hit the fan for the last time.
Fact is, there are star wars fans who will play no matter what is out there and some, who'm I spoke to are starting to like the changes and more people are coming back. So as much as the hard-core pre-gens who spam the forums there and here say it's doomed. It is actually the oppisit as I see it. Thou I won't go back myself, I do now know 11 who have and that's just the people I knew out of the 20 I use to play with. 3 of those being relatives who have returned to the game.
Eh, one to their own, but all the "they lie" is just you saying "they lie" just like them saying "everything is great", which it probably is now.

Unfotunately, at this time, there is no way to indepedently varify statements like that with any degree of accuracy. All we can do is report back what they tell us.
In other words MMORPG.com is just a marketting arm of developers like SOE.
Seriously, why should anyone bother to come to MMORPG.com if all they are goign to get is regergetated BS speak from developers? Do yu only exist to recirculate thier propoganda and marketting babble?
I quit reading MMORPG.com (except for the occasional stop by when bored) simply because it became apparent that the site exists to tote the developers lines and not to represent its readers and find out what they want to know. I don't have ANY need for another outlet for companies to spew thier marketting taglines at me.
Wow, I have lost some faith in you guys, To let them give you such obvious BS and to print it wiht out your honest opinion. Was teh money worth your integrity? If you didnt get paid nice job on letting them lie to your community. At least after the interview you could have put some truth to there words. Or more to the point called there BS spin on things about the game.
We all know they fraked up, SWG sucks. Its lacking in so many ways It would take pages to even begin to explain its dissapointment.
I think some better questions for the interview would have been; How does it feel to have completely and totally ruined a game like SWG? <- that would have been a better question.
Next time you guys to a interview with them or anyone else.. How about honesty to the readers, say what you want to them. BUT print the truth and facts not the BS Spin they give you..

Oh and the only reason you wont find any thing negitive on the SWG forums, is cause they remove even "good bye" threads regardless if they have gone bad or not.

Originally posted by Lepidus As I said, we didn't just grin and jot it down. The claim struck me as potentially controversial. I spoke to Chris on two occasions after breakfast to ensure that he had not simply misspoke.Eventually, we have an equal duty to report what they say and we cannot just change what comes out of their mouths. This was an issue I spoke of a bit at the Third Party panel and a problem with this industry as a whole. Ultimately, the only way for us to truly third party verify his claims is to get an inside source at SOE willing to tell us their subscriber numbers. At a certain stage, this is entertainment journalism and not national security. You cannot expect people to risk their jobs for things like that.Even then though, short of being escorted into a room with the computer, that person could be lying to us.Short and simple, with SOEs myriad of offers, station pass and games, it is impossible to glean even from their public financial statements how many people play what. Thus, we can only ask them these questions and report back what they say. It is up to you the reader to decide whether or not you believe them.
Actually I found the SWG comments a tremendous state of their affairs. Everyone knows SWG is sitting fairly stale right now yet they admitted that it is one of their best gainers at the moment.
That tells me the only other thing they have going that might be doing alittle better is EQ II and I am getting the impression from this article that it isn't doing a leaps and bounds better.

If you are continually communicating with the player base tell me "why has the Chat Channels been moderated since NGE hit the Live Server!"?
Your just selective in what you say and what you do & who's (players) opinion you use, as long as it sounds postive.
We need sombody with a back bone running SWG not a bunch of yes men.

I think the authors did the best they could with what they were given. Sadly, though, I find it hard to believe that SEO was telling the absolute truth unless they were counting things like non-paid trial memberships. Having played both pre-CU and post-NGE, in comparison the servers are quite dead. It is sad and makes me fear their involvement in the DC MMO.

There is no way they were being honest in that interview. What makes it mind boggling is that everyone knows how badly they handled NGE and everything else after that yet they pretend to say it's their most popular MMO in terms of gaining the most subscription.
I can't believe they would lie so blatantly like that.

As for SWG being "one of SOE's biggest gainers in terms of new players" it is very possible. ppl who tried other MMORPGs are probably browsing other MMORPGs to see which they like better. MMORPGs are very popular now, with so many ppl trying em, whose to say they wont try SWG, too. Maybe SWG isnt as bad to someone else. just my thoughts on the subject.

There are very very very VERY VERY few people playing the game anymore.
