Just thought id also mention that no matter what job you take, at the start of the game in your newbie days, you are going to take an ass kicking and get killed but dont give up just keep going until you get the hang of it all.

I also recommend fighting mobs that are easy, that way you can kill alot of them all one after another and get like 50 exp for each, you will probably kill about 6 of them and then need to rest to regen hp so each time you will make 300exp. If you go for harder mobs or even mobs you might get say 75/100exp per kill, but you will have to rest to rgen hp after every single kill.

    Goodluck and have fun.

  • I never had trouble finding a group, actually... If you want to go a the middle of a desert of course you'll have trouble finding a group, but if you're in a good area there shouldn't be trouble. Everybody is looking for groups, so its easy. Besides ther's always the linkshell, where you can find people even faster. Making some friends of the same lvl is always a good option.

no and no, grind lvl bs, you can't put "played FFXI" on your resume, and it aint worth the time for this grind fest.  Graphics are bad and everyone looks the same too-- but this is one man's opinion...

I think the grafx are best suited for this game and i think they made then that way so system requirements isn't so high

Grinding is more fun than "Go kill 50 orcs and come back and talk to me and I'll give you this pretty button that gives you HP+689748704."

The graphics aren't "bad" you obviously diddnt configure your game right, not to mention it came out what, 4 almost 5 years ago?

And people look the same because the game is run on PS2 and PS2's dont have the same power computers have for processing, so it made it easier on the consoles. Have you ever played Lineage or Lineage 2? Two of the most popular MMO's in the world? EVERYONE looks the same in those too.

In fact.. they look even *more* similar in LII because of the limited gear available.

I'll just say what I liked and didn't like about this game.

Graphics Average (can't complain), implementing an additional job to support your main one was kool, the story (Ok~ I guess but not that good imao), trasportation was nice (Choco still takes sometime), the immense environment (love Vanadiel) and anything else I really didn't like it that much.

Grind, grind, grind, grind, and then wait, wait, wait, wait.  Who said you can solo this game.  During the begining yes but that doesn't last too long, after that you can't solo shit.  You better have a good linkshell or a permanent pt, bc having a pt is no. 1 priority.  Quests are also a bitch later on (your gonna need help often).  Then it's time for some more grinding.  Level caps to AF armor quests, a long and painful process.  No pvp (your not a pvp person then cool), what? Ballista? Are F-ing kidding me...  Oh yea crafting, yea~ is something to do but you ain't gonna make shit til the higher levels (thats another leveling up you'll have to do but at least you can do it on your own), and don't even expect to make alot a gils from it either, you're gonna be farming too (but the economy? I don't wanna even go there)

There are more to be said but I don't wanna get into every lil detail ( I don't have the patience like other peoples here).  Overall I thought it was a waste of time, had some fun too, but overall.  Some people think its a good game but it's not for me, not my style.  So thanks for reading and I'm not disrespecting anybody's opinion or saying it's a bad game by saying all this, I'm just saying it wasn't my type of game.

I cancelled today when my months free trial came to end. I'm not going to pay for this waiting and monotous grinfest this game is.

I managed to get to BLM30/WHM15 and BSM10 in this included free month and thats with normal parties mostly, didnt have PowerLevelers helping me out.

Camped couple NotariousMonsters for drops, did fame/missions for Drain/Aspis -spells, soloed Kazham -keys etc.

But when it comes cancellation of account... I asked myself: Did i have fun? Do i want to pay more for this? And the answer was easy: No.

Graphics were outdated and ugly, everyone at same levels looked the same. People came to parties and left without saying anything. I even was in party grinding in Kazham for 2 hours where noone spoke anything, they just pulled mob after mob.

Then there were people that just joined parties and leeched exp and they didnt do anything to help kill mobs.

And mobs... You kill same mobs all over again, only the name changes by areas and levels.

Now when writing this, i actually wonder how i managed to play this for full month but thats why they dont have free trials in this game

I know how people hate account buyers, but there are other people who will want to buy accounts to retrieve back waht they lost because of <put your reason here> or because they do not like thier job any more so they seek another account, which they sell the original in the end. In my opinion, account buying is nothing wrong unless it's a mindless noob and doesn't know what the hell he is doing.

Are you serious leopold? The only gratifying aspect of FFXI is the combat system, like skillchaining (fun). Other than that this game is horrible. Sorry about the lack of constructive post, i'm just running through.

No, from 1-70, honestly, your main focus will be leveling. I have no clue what the people on the first page are talking about, but it seems to me they are pulling information out of their ass. SE is cheap and most of the armor in this game looks like another set of armor, at higher level you might be lucky enough that they changed the color of it. Quests aren't really noticable, and most aren't needed. Everything has to be done in a party from lv 12 on, which is both time consuming and annoying. LIke someone else said, you get nothing for killing people in the small bit of PvP there is in this game. And when you die, you lose EXP, 10% of your current exp needed to get to the next level. Sure, at lv 10 that doesn't seem so bad when you lose 100 exp, but at lv 65+, you lose about 2000, which is an hour or more of partying you need to do to gain that EXP back. Trust me, i know this game.  If you really wanna see what ffxi is like, go to www.killingifrit.com or www.allakazam.com <<(google that, might have mispelled)

Also i like woombas post, its exactly what the game is

If you're going to try to play the cheap card at least get it right, SE has limitations on diffrent Character/Armor/Weapon/Item/Monster models becasue of the low Ram in the Ps2 (FFXI was origionally a Ps2 game ya know). So Sony is cheap for not making the Ps2 with more Ram &/or Having a way to insert more ram (Anyone remember the Booster Pack for the N64 >.>)

Quests are hardly needed in anygame, however a game like FFXI has no end, so to keep people busy there are thousands of quests.

You lose 8% of your total TNL when you die, & The caps at 2,400 exp (Meaning you can't lose more than 2.4k). Reciving the Raise I spell grants 50% exp back, Rasie II 75%, and Raise III 95%.  The only way 2k could be an hour of exp 65+ Is if you're a second rate job trying to solo. 65+ 6,000/hour is average & at 75 8-10k/hour. (I've gotten 12k/hour but that was an excellent merit party)

Telaki, the man is right, there's no denying it. You just tried to invalidate some of his points but with little effect. The thing is, the game updates regularly, and I remember a 10% before i quit. The 2% makes almost no difference, and the 2400 cap is more than what he said (2000). Sure it's been allieviated, but guess how long it took SE to fix the horrible game mechanics?

So 65+ is 6k/hr? Wow, i wish i had your parties. A lot of parties are either filled with people who don't know their jobs, and bring all these problems. Not to mention actually looking for the right combination of jobs takes SO long, you could spend up to 3hr. getting a party together, if you don't get the right combo, xp/hr goes down and just brings out the grind. Not to mention finding a good camping spot 60+ that is not full...

Of course, warriors HAVE to farm for 5million+ gil in gear 60+ just to be decent is fun isn't it?

Please people, save your money and buy a game that's actually fun most of the time, not some of the time.

Thank you, dear God, finally someone who agrees with me. The most of the time someone actually got a 13k/hour party was right as ToA came out, then everyone went to level in that spot so you don't get as much exp. And SE is constantly trying to bring down jobs because they are too powerful. They have been trying to bring down BLM but they just can't find a way to do it.

Its been 8% for the past year, Since they cut the TNL from 50-75 down. With that said, Unless you just didn't know You havn't played it since ToAU came out. You lvl in ToAU from 55-75, Imperial Sanction (Pretty much the same as signet) gives a 15% Exp bonus (With some other added bonus like Regen, Refresh, or Double food durations). Pre ToAU I agree, Exping in Bibiki Bay or the boyahda tree sucked (Partyly because everyting in CoP had a 15min repop, while ToAU its 5min), with slow chain 6's at 5k/hour tops. My Best party was 12k/hour in caedarva Mire, we constaly had chain 40+ and only lost our highest (48 ; ;) because somone got aggro by a water elemental >.>. 6k/hour Is by far average.

Gil isn't hard to come by, People like you just sit around and complain about the economy instead of getting off your ass and doing somthing. 5mil 2 weeks tops from working your butt off, 3 weeks if you do it casually. This if you try to farm it, fish it, craft it, bcnm it, or camp it (NM). Wouldn't take nearly that long if you quested some scrolls and sold them.

Lineage has a good reason for it. they hold MASSIVE pvp events which have hundreds of people on one screen. this is not the case in FFXI. devs just didn't had the time to create more of them.
