Is there a link to the new PvP ranking system? I looked at the patch notes that TH submitted (I followed the link from here) and seen nothing.
Thanks.
In chapter three there is going to be a complete re-write of the faction ranking system in Star Wars Galaxies.
The goals of this update are to add an achievement value to obtaining a GCW rank and to offer game play rewards to those endeavors.
GCW points and rank acquisition
* NPC Ground Combat: Boss and Elite caliber NPC’s within five levels will grant an amount of GCW Points. * Ground PvP Combat: Players will be able to battle each other for GCW standing. Value of a PvP kill will degrade with repeated killing of the same target. This value loss will decay over time. * NPC Space Combat: Defeating an NPC of equal or greater Tier value will grant an amount of GCW Points. * Space PvP Combat: Players will be able to battle each other for GCW standing. Value of a PvP kill will degrade over time with repeated killing of the same target. The value loss will decay over time. In addition, a bonus to space PvE kills will be afforded if the pilot is declared for PvP combat. * Ground PvP Regions: PvP combat that takes place within a PvP region will periodically receive bonus points for participation. The value of the bonus will be determined by overall activity, unique activity and faction imbalance. * Space PvP Regions: PvP combat that takes place within a PvP region will periodically receive bonus points for participation. The value of the bonus will be determined by overall activity, unique activity and faction imbalance. * Player Placed GCW Bases: Planetary control will provide a bonus to GCW standing, and base busting will provide bonus GCW standing similar to a PvP region.
Rank Gain and Reward
There are 12 ranks per side in the GCW system, six enlisted and six officers.
Once a week a players GCW points will be computed and their faction standing will modify accordingly.
Players will advance through the ranks normally on the enlisted end gaining rank commensurate with personal GCW participation. Once the players reach the officer ranks they will begin to lose standing during their weekly update. This increases the difficulty of advancement and dictates steady participation in GCW activities to maintain rank. The rank structure uses the factional Army advancement structure.
Rank 1: I – Private, R – Private Rank 2: I – Lance Corporal, R – Trooper Rank 3: I – Corporal, R – High Trooper Rank 4: I – Sergeant, R – Sergeant Rank 5: I – Master Sergeant, R – Senior Sergeant Rank 6: I – Sergeant Major, I – Sergeant Major
Rank 7: I – Lieutenant, R – Lieutenant Rank 8: I – Captain, R – Captain Rank 9: I – Major, R – Major Rank 10: I – Lt. Colonel, R – Commander Rank 11: I – Colonel, R – Colonel Rank 12: I – General, R – General
Ranks will be displayed on the player avatar in the same fashion they are now, with a selection on the community page, and the rank title will appear above the characters name.
On achieving enlisted and officer ranks, players gain the ability to purchase items from their faction recruiter.
At the officer level players will also gain access to character abilities and to exclusive officer chat channels.
If a player eventually loses an officer rank through inactivity, they will also lose access to the officer channels and abilities but will retain the ability to use any item rewards they have purchased.
The Character Page A new tab will be added to the character page for the tracking of GCW status. The character page will appear in a similar fashion to this. Other players can view this page by examining your character.
Name Graphical Progress Bar Rank Icon Rank GCW Standing (Week) PvP Kills (Week) GCW Standing (Lifetime) PvP Kills (Lifetime) Highest Rank Ever: If applicable, there will be a Rebel and an Imperial Highest rank achieved entry.
Frequently asked questions:
How do I join a faction? We are removing the barrier to entry for joining a faction. Any neutral player can approach a faction recruiter and immediately sign up without any 200 FP requirement.
What is happening to Imperial and Rebel faction? Rebel and Imperial faction will be losing their “4th money” status, and will instead operate as any other faction by manipulating NPC reaction to your character.
Bonus FAQ: What are the four money types? Cash, Bank, JTL credit chips and Faction.
How will I obtain factional equipment in the new system? After obtaining the proper rank, available items will be purchased with credits.
What will happen to my current faction rank? The current faction ranks and ranking system are being removed. There is no conversion planned into the new system due to the ease of gaming the old system. With the assistance of a smuggler, a new player could be a Colonel in under an hour.
What will happen to the rewards and items recruiters currently sell? Everything a faction recruiter currently sells will be offered in the new system, in addition to the all new items. All granted schematics are at the first tier so aligned crafters will have access.
Why did you use the Army ranks? The Imperial and Alliance Army rank structure had the greatest Fidelity from Enlisted to Officer. A number of ranks were matched in name rather than actual standing to avoid having a rank name at two different levels cross-faction.
Does this mean we will see the return of the FRS soon? This is the old Force Ranking System. There are significant modifications to the point scoring rules and a rank decay officer filtering system rather than voting or arena combat. There are no plans for a competitive class based rank system.
What happens if I resign from my faction? You will lose all standing, and the ability to use your factional equipment. If you later rejoin that faction you will begin advancement from the beginning, but will immediately regain use of any previously obtained factional equipment unless there is an additional rank requirement.
How long will it take to advance in the new system? Currently at the max calculated advancement rate we would see our first General in 16 weeks.
At what rate do the Officer ranks decay? Players can lose a maximum of 40% of a rank per week.
How difficult is it to advance and maintain the officer ranks? Unknown at this time. We will be monitoring activity and have access to the knobs and buttons necessary to adjust accordingly should the system be deemed too steep or too easy.
Thanks. Now I wish I knew what the factional gear is that you could buy. I don't remember there being anything useful for a Jedi, but I could be wrong.

The camoflauge detection things are handy for Jedi. Also, now that bases are back, they are useful to anyone New things are implemented as well with the new ranking system that I believe are profession specific.
Interesting thing is that it seems Crafters earn rank by crafting.
I have been on TC all morring and i must say. NGE still sucks no matter what the devs will do, NGE needs to go! and bring back the old proff the 9 iconic just sucks.
Log in is still a two step process for me, rather the one button but I need to toy with it.
Radar is much better.
You can resize the chat box.
They said the bar for experience was larger but I don't see that it is.
I created a smuggler and played a little last night. Only thing new for the newb was a "search the dead body for contraband" thingie. I am thinking of re-specing my level 75 medic to Smuggler to see how it is higher up.
If you are interested in Galaxies or the Smuggling profession at all, it is a good time to re-sub briefly and try it out and give feedback. Especially if you were an old smuggler who can do some fine point comparison.
Officer is too boring for me to look at, it seems like a cheerleader somehow, just not interested at all.

Head to -1049 10 -3538 in Bestine for the Smuggler missions
Well I hope for all long time smugglers it is something good.
To me it doesn't matter anymore. As long as the CLs and "nine iconic professions" are in place the game is dead. But hey, if that is what the player base wants, who I'm I to judge the devs decisions?
"There are two kinds of spurs, my friend. Those that come in by the door; those that come in by the window"
What I like is the NGE instead of getting more content, fixing the professions, doing almost all the things they promised to do from the start INSTEAD ARE SPENDING TIME DOING DAMAGE RECOVERY of trying to make the game LOOK LIKE OLDER versions of Star Wars while leaving in the NGE feel of things.
So spend the time to make it seem more like the old ways, but with none of the old ways atributes or hardships.
I like the fact they are having to spend time on trying to go back when they talked shit of all this promises not to go back.
From what I understand they are all pretty wore out from this experience actually. Imagine that.

yes there was a pvp ranking system in older versions of swg, it was a ladder system that you saw post cu when you died or killed someone. FRS was a completely different ballgame. FRS was the way that once you completed your jedi basic template you advanced in power. I posted about this once before Obriak and tried to inform you, and I will do it over and over again.
To compare a system where you are advancing the characters skills and abilities and a system where you gain rank, and items (troops) is not the same. Also this new system is set up for everyone not just Jedi.
Yes other games have had pvp ranking systems and very similar mechanics to wow and now nge, please do not compared FRS to this.
Did I mention that if you wanted a true star warys and iconic medic he would be in the med center healing people? Medics do not use guns and armor to heal people the use bacta tanks and nice white lab coats.
(insert edit) personally I am very happy that nge is adding things for the non-jedi and non-bh crowd, but it is no longer a game that I could play.

Actually, this ranking system does give you new profession skills and abilities during the final 6 ranks. Yes, I'm well aware that the FRS was for Jedi, but the mechanics weren't overly different.

Heh, on that note, it seems they've figured out where the UI is involved that people like things to be optional. Every new UI feature has it's own tick box in this chapter...
FRS was a cow with different spots no matter how you want to say. Yes it was a progression systme for a class. It was also the basic setup for the dark jedi council. I know that you want to say that this is just the FRS with a new coat of paint. FRS never was about new troops, armor, fp that is the main rewards to the new pvp ranking system.
FRS, how ever abused by fight clubs, was a major attempt to get jedi out of the gcw and give them thier own method of advancement to MASTER. The current pvp ranking system is not about becoming the master of your profession it is about pvp and where you stand. that is not a bad thing, but it is not even in the same ball park as FRS was.
Here one line statement: If you ever wanted to be more than a padawan then you had to get involed in the FRS, can you say that same with the new system and any profession?

Yes. If you want to be anything more then a Private, then you need to get involved in the GCW ranking system.
Instead of being profession enhancing (well it is still kinda with the new skills and specials...), it's faction enhancing.
You do not NEED to pvp to get to the level 90 (was master badge), you HAD to FRS to get above padawan.
Again you cite faction enchaning, frs was not about faction but about progressing past padawan. Here, maybe this will help you see the difference. Say youa re a medic and you wanted to get past level 50, to do so you HAD to pvp with other medics only, any pvp you did beyond from that did not help you advance.

Thanks.

Instead of being profession enhancing (well it is still kinda with the new skills and specials...), it's faction enhancing.
apples and oranges.
private = pvp rank
master profession = class
You do not NEED to pvp to get to the level 90 (was master badge), you HAD to FRS to get above padawan.
Again you cite faction enchaning, frs was not about faction but about progressing past padawan. Here, maybe this will help you see the difference. Say youa re a medic and you wanted to get past level 50, to do so you HAD to pvp with other medics only, any pvp you did beyond from that did not help you advance.
