*Backs way from the shear falsehood of it all* The community really is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best a -flegging- around. No one can deny that and no one has the right to disrespect them or the devs. They've been through A LOT are better for it. You won't be finding a more friendly or mature community than that of MxO any time soon. I can assure you.
Good lord, there ya go again son.
Oversimplifications. Bandwagon Mentality. Appeal to Popular Sentiment. Your few short sentences presented no argument worth a lick of salt, other than demonstrating several well-known fallicious reasoning tactics.
I suggest ones go see for themselves what I mean. By all means, read the forums, play the game.
There is no way, no WAY that badmouthing alone destroys a game.
Good lord, how many MMO's have you played? Airing one's personal opinion, especially the gripes is as old as MMO's. There's no way that this alone destroys a game. WoW is the butt end of so many jokes it's unreal. 6,000,000 subscribers. You can't argue with that.
As I stated, many times, I looked forward to this MMO, more than any other game in my entire life. I defended it for months in beta, and for months after beta. Anyone that was there knows that. You weren't there obviously, so you don't know. Ask Count Zero. Ask DaPharmer. As HazeofBane / noVus - I defended that game to death. Ask anyone how much I defended that game in the beginning. I always have had a problem with the sycophants, and always made my opinion known about them, but I defended that game to the death in beta, and for months afterwards. That's probably why I'm so pissed now. I was betrayed.
People don't turn around from defending the game ardently - to what I say, for no reason.
And secondly by saying: "To answer the original question, because people" - at least you admit that it is doing poorly. May want to look to your own house and see if some of what we are saying is true. Because god knows I defended that game long and hard for too long.
Maybe its not the game your pissed about.....Maybe its how the community treated you?
Sometimes if the community is poor to a certain person, they start to hate the game in general and start posting about it.......thats just coming from an experience mmo player....
I think one of the major reasons MxO isn't doing well is because of the setting.
It's based around people wanting to be a part of the world and of the story of the movies, but unfortunately the movies are finished and we've heard the whole story. I think that's part of the reason why SWG has had so much trouble (a small part).
If you look, traditionally MMOs using these types of licenses haven't done well at all.
"Because it's easier to nitpick something than to be constructive." -roach5000
Suppose you're half right, this isn't what happened in the movies. But it is the same setting, this is the same world, with the same history and the same characters.
But we've definately yet to see the whole story. Thats the whole prospect of The Matrix Online. It's story (yes, the game as an integral storyline which progresses over time) IS the rest of the story. It's the official continuation of the films.

Nah. I mean, if you go to the LOTRO boards, you will find that we haven't even gotten into the game - but we make it known right from the start, that we cannot stand engratiating behaviour. I make that known going in. It's a phenomenon I've seen in so many MMO's I've played, it's naseuating.
"OH X Dev, you're so awesome, you're so amazing!" "Oh X Player 'community leader' - I wanna have your baby!"
It's the same reason I DESPISE movie stars. The ones I've met? Dear God. They think they ARE god. Personally, I think anyone that goes on American Idol should be locked up. All of that sycophantic behaviour, stand around in a collective circle-jerk - is just naeuseating.
What I always found funny, is that ones would disagree so venhemently wiith some of our group, but then, would come into our TS channel, and ask us questions on you-name-it. We actually found it humorous.
But here I am going on about the community. I could go on and on about what was done to the game.
*Backs way from the shear falsehood of it all* The community really is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best a -flegging- around. You may not like it. There is a full Lore that is many pages long and requires slightly more than an 8th grade reading ability.

That is a false statement. And your discouraging others from wanting to play the game. Let them try it out for themselves and let them make their own judgement about the game. DO NOT post that crap anymore. People need to try it out on their own and make they're own opinions and views. Maybe thats why it has such a bad rep becuz ppl only judge the game by what they read off of forums. So stop bashing plz.
In all honesty I think people shouldn't waste time downloading this trial. I know it's free, but that time could be better spent elsewhere. It takes an exceptional rare breed of person to find this a fulfilling game. If you have played MMO's before, this one willbe a little too flawed for most of you. If this is your first, or you are a massive posters on the bedroom wall type of Matrix fan the game is probably still worth a look.
This game is more intresting for it's abject failure than for any gamepley. An intresting example of how to get it wrong.
I will say that I did enjoy the community.
There was two elements in the communtiy when I played, the beta noobs who were all cliquey and wanted to discuss matrix philosophy (and the deep plot contained in a special effects movie), they were bloody aweful sad bastards. And the average players who as I have found in so many other MMO's a nice, friendly, fun and helpful bunch of gamers.
And when did you play? What are said flaws? Whats wrong with having a varied community of casuals and matures?
Coming onto a message board and saying 'its crap and filled with n00bz omgfbbqg!!11one!!1one!' is all so easy but saying such things without evidence is not a valid arguement.
Give examples and i'll be more than happy to shoot them down for ya

This i just had to comment on, heh.
Oh my a lore! A pre-set backstory! Many pages! Madness!
MxO... A back lore consisting of an entire movie trilogy, 9 anime short films, 2 volumes of comic books, and tons of written work explaining the post-trilogy.
An ever evolving in-game storyline. A story that progresses over time. A story that changes the world, the atmosphere, the tension around you. Your enemies shift and change, your alligences may turn out to be betrayals. Your main story characters may be in grave danger and its up to you to save them. The entire Matrix may be forced into great peril and you have to unite to fight off a great external force. All of what i've mentioned has already happened and theres plenty more to come. It's a story that you're a part of.
Many pages? Try my 25,708 word MxO Storyline Documents. Thats not even up-to date. Im behind by a whole chapter and am missing about 3/4 of the overall content given through critical story missions.
So yes, a casual gamer and jack in, play the game, level the character, kick the ass and do the pvp. But if they want to they can become part of something so much more. Something no other MMO has.

well, I have to admit MxO has some flaws, especially the mission system can be boring after some time, but saying the community sucks!?
Maybe you should first play the game a bit more then only the trial.
I don't really know how other servers are, but vector (and before Enumerator) is awesome. Maybe it helps that it's a pvp server, I don't know, haven't played too much on other server. PvP is one of the best things in MxO (at least for me it was), yo uhave to like it, and if you do.... There's nothing as cool as hunting (or getting hunted) through the streets of megacity.
P.S. I saw in the post the white rooms are getting back? We used to be able to get into them before, then they fixed the bug and we couldn't anymore, and now it's going to be a feature? Cool
Ok, Ok, blah, blah. Its funny how a pretty simple question can turn into a battle of the games and a battle of personalities. This thread is called Why isn't MxO doing better? and its pretty obvious from the first 3 posts that this game is definitely missing something. By the sound of it, its not so much the community but the game does not have that 'fun' aspect of it. I mean I've never played the game but it couldn't honestly just be doing the same 4 missions over and over again. I've read theres tons to do. Now usually when a game is missing a very important key aspect that it tends to rub off on the veteran community, perhaps making them lack that friendlyness towards new players. I've observed this when I tried SWG after their 'BIG CHANGE' to the game. I would ask questions and some max lvl player (instead of answering me) would try to dual me. They're just a bit bitter towards their game and probably don't even know it. Just cause they've wasted all this time on this game thats close to greatness but missing the key element. I love the Matrix and I've read some of their books, but by the sounds of it, I'd never play this game.
I think Crysalis makes a good point about mmos. Whether it applies to MxO I don't know.
But I've seen this in other games, eg. Horizons. You get a core of die-hard fans who stick with a game with winnowing popularity, and instead of embracing new players - new players whose subscription money is needed to keep the game alive - they resent them.
It's the same thing that happens in life, I think, but happening in a microcosm. When people have gotten where they are in what they consider "the hard way" they don't want anyone else to get there any more easily. So changes that make things better are perceived as making it easier (which may be true or not) - and new folk get resented.
Heh, seems like people have somehow got the completely wrong impression about the community =P
MxO's fanbase and overall player base (bar those few goons ya get in all MMOs -yay /ignore-) are VERY welcoming and friendly to newbies.
We love our game and want to succeed more than anything. Thats how i can sum up the community. So, understandably, we welcome new players with welcome arms.
But like its been said all over the place, you can't be told what the Matrix is. You cant be told what the game is like, what the people are like, how 'fun' it is because all these are perceptive and indivisual experiences.
I rilly like Mxo i think it is a very good mgame and asd for mew members getting slated is utter bull crap i started i had people helping me in no time complete utter lie! i have stoped playign now put i am rilly considering reactviateing my account soon coz its an adictive game
