You go 6ft under. Death is probably like than unconciousness, except without life. But I dunno, no one has ever come back from the dead (that could tell us about it).
Well the laws of conservation of energy/matter say that nothing is ever truely created or destroyed, it just changes form.
So I figure whatever animating force or consciousness you have within you simply goes somewhere else or changes. Which could basically be anyone's interpretation of "Heaven".

Dude, do you really believe that? Well... that could be believable.
What he is saying agrees with your views Ob1sr, that you go to heaven or hell, just using science to back up his claim.
See I believe both in my Christian Faith (Mormonism) and in Science. I'm an aircraft engineer, I've lived science all my life, it's good stuff. But so is Christianity.
I believe that when I die I'll go to "heaven", not the highest part of heaven because I ain't that great a person, but I'm decent so I'll be fine.
I also believe that the laws of conservation of energy/matter are true and most of science can go hand in hand with religion. I think they're two sides of the same coin. I think religion actually supports science and vice versa if you are open to the proper interpretations. I was talking with a Muslim friend who told me that there are parts of the qur'an which explain the fetus inside the womb, or the tectonic plates. There are similar things in a lot of the religious texts we have available to us.
That being said, I don't think I'll be starting a religion with the whole 'consciousness energy transfer' type idea. I could but the name Scientology is already taken.
To me it is an interesting idea though, and definately a possible theory. To me it just solidifies the possibility of heaven.

Check out Chapter 23 Verses 12-16, and Chapter 39 Verses 5-6.
And about the science part, read Chapter 2 Verse 255
To us Muslims, God have created everything we see and don't see, so basically, he is the one who created all the laws of science, and he has recommended us to go out and search for them, if you read verse 255 of chapter 2, you'll understand that we are limited to a certain amount of knowledge, because we can't understand everything, we don't have the capacity to do that in our life time.
Imagine this, for someone to become a scientist, he has to study what the scientists before him have discovered, and SURELY he's won't have the time to look into every single one of them.
Sorry, I don't own a Quran, so I can't go look that up. Yeah, the human brain can only hold a certain amount of knowledge, we forget what we subconsiously don't think is important. But I don't think your analogy is a very good one... I'll try to think of a better one.
Technically you can't dream when your dead so that option is gone. Reincarnation? unlikely. Heaven and Hell possibly? no? I suppose we will find out when we die won't we.

I'll wait for tomarrow to get into this thread, but I will.

I would love if death was just dreaming, because sooner or later your going to know its all dreams and a eternity of lucid dreams doesnt sound that bad.

Thats what i find interesting about Islam. The fact that a couple hundred years ago they were by far a Greater civilization compared to the European Cathlolic/Protestant states.
They embraced science much more than the European religions. Islam was ahead in Mathematics, medicine, and overall health but now the Islamic Theocracys seem to have fallen quite far from their previous status as cultural leaders. The roles seem to have turned.
But back to the topic,
I really dont have one definate theory about what happens when we die. I always consider an altered state of reality but then i imagine it could be just nothingness. A permanent dream might be a possibility but im not sure if its scientificaly possible to state in that state.

You in fact dream, but that dream is not how it looks like, it's reality, the dead can hear the living before they are put into their graves, after that, total silence.
then 2 angels appear before the dead man, asking him 3 questions, the winners will beable to answer them, the losers won't.
then you live the life of the grave, in either a garden of paradise's gardens, or one of hell's holes, if you live in a hell hole, you'll take the necessary punishments based on the sins you've accumelated in your life, after taking enough, you'll be put in the garden and live in peace finally, only if you were amongst the winners, because even winners sin :}
then when the judgement day occures, you'll be reincarnated, judged, and then you know, either hell or paradise, eternally.
Patheos' postulation that we could live in a dream forever sounds appealing and I've thought it might be like that too. Have you ever thought about what thoughts are made of? It could be possible to dream even if your brain turns to dirt, but again- who knows?
Another way of looking at it is like God is in all of us and is the ultimate creator. If God is in all of us, we are all a peice of God, if we are all a peice of God, then together we make him/her whole. So some people think that when you die, you become one with God.
That's one I'd rather believe then the idea of a comsic overbearing power, who's sitting on a throne waiting to punish some of us for all the wrongs that we did, or reward those who pass the "test". There is no test, only varying degrees of personality. Like the difference between ice, water and waver-vapor, their the same substance, just varying degrees of it's states. There is no person A is "bad" while person b is "good". You dig me?
Death is whatever the person believes in. Some people believe in a heaven and a hell, others beileve they could come back as a butterfly, an ox or even another person.
Some people believe their spirit will roam the world. Or you just stop everything, life ends and that's it. I believe in a heaven and a hell. So who knows what will happen. It's something I don't want to test any time soon, maybe even not in another 80 years.
1- I cease to exist, which really don't bother me.
2- I go to a hell, which I could care less.
3- I go to a heaven, lame- No hardcore carnality, drinking, and sin...
4- I get reincarnated, yay I get to go through this BS again!
5- I enter a spirt world, now I gotta talk to dudes tweeking off of peyote great...
6- Or what I want to do, haunt people.
In the end it don't matter, it is how you lived your life that does.

Live in one of these two places.
1- One of the Gardens of Paradise.
2- One of Hell's Holes.

Lend a hand and break the chains of regularity you lean so closely upon

That depends on what you did in your human life.
If you murdered someone, you can bet you're be reincarnated into something like a roach or worm, and you wont have a choice either. ^^
And if you're good, you get to choose what you wish to be.
Ah well, that's how my religion works anyways. My gods and goddess can either be merciful, or down right evil.
