Shadowy Assasins...

in World of Warcraft

I'm curious if this has happened to anyone else. While in Southshore I was randomly attacked by 2 Syndicate (a NPC Faction) Assasins, tagged "Shadowy Assasin". I don't know where they came from but they were Stealthed and popped on me out of nowhere, thankfully I was near to Guards and shook them off me quickly.

Still I wondered, why did they attack me? I had ran through the area I was attacked in many times and never came by them and not once did I detect them. My current running theories are:

1) They were there the whole time and it was just my carelessness/luck to have not came by them before.

2) Previously I had been Pickpocketting and generally slaying Syndicate members further north which triggered an Assasination attempt on me.

3) Due to a current Quest I have running named "Syndicate Assasins" they can be triggered at random times to attack me.

Personally I just assume it's number 1), although it confuses me as to what 2 hostile NPCs would be doing so close to Guards. If it's 2) or 3) personally I think that's pretty cool, even if it's just one off for this quest the concept of Assasins being sent to track me down because I've caused them problems/am on their trail seems pretty cool.

Anyway, I wondered if anyone here has the answer to this.

    they spawn at certain server times and if you're lucky enough to kill one before the guards zerg em, you can start a quest off their drop (kinda cute quest, not really worth sitting around waiting for them, but if you got it, it's hoopy )

    It's a chain quest called "The Diplomat" or something, where you talk to a guy inside the inn and then the scoundrel(he's one of the guests in the inn) walks out of the inn and it spawns two assassains out of nowhere to defend him. It's some time since I did this quest so I'm not sure what they're called, but it could simply be that someone activated the quest while you were walking by.

    I've never heard of these "rare spawns" that the other guy is talking about. I could be wrong, though..

    I know which one your on about, it's not that quest and isn't similar to that. With the Diplomat quest they spawned to defend an ally, for me they just spawned out of a blue for seemingly no reason. It's what made me curious due to it being so odd. They were 10 levels higher than the average mob in the area, they spawned near the Guards (if you've ever been to Southshore I was by the Docks hunting Murlocs) and I didn't do anything that would've specifically triggered them. I'm inclined to go with randprin, his answer seems to be the most likely. Still, regardless, I thought it was cool, if it was tied to what I done earlier or the fact I had a specific quest thats cooler :)

    It's a shame, I had a couple spawn on me and missed an opportunity. Ah well, they were too high to kill anyway.

    Ah, I see.. Well, I'm not very into the alliance side.. Allways fun with some rare spawns.
