The Problem With MMORPG.com

Well, there is nothing wrong with MMORPG.com itself.. what the problem is that most of us are hardcore MMO fans or else we wouldn't be here. So, we exlaim for things that most players do not want. I'm sure there are alot of players who don't come here and are just general MMO fans want too, but for the most part we look at MMOs much differently than most MMOs players out there.

I mean think about it. How many MMOs do you think the Average MMO player has played? Maybe 2 if not 1. Compare that with what the average number of MMOs the members here have played.

I will say one thing; if SOE had not ruined SWG I would be in the 1-2 group. By looking at how many people have played up to 15 that should say something about MMO companies more than anything. I believe if an MMO is good it should keep people hooked. I was never an MMO hopper till after the SWG NGE thing.

I do believe there are a lot of people who are playing WoW exclusively that never touched another. But even after a while I'm sure they go try other games since end game is at level 60 and once you do most of the content there is not much else to do but rinse and repeat. I know there is the expansion but why should people wait on such a thing to continue to have fun in your game? At least back in the old days of SWG there was other things like socialization, gathering resources for crafters, trying new templates, hunting for fun, exploring. All the other MMOs out there seem to force you in to a repetitive questing loop with nothing else but that. That’s why I have not found anything I want to stick with. I think someone needs to build another "sandbox" style MMO with lots of working epic quests. Best of both worlds.

Yes, this is a very good point. If you think about it, historically, there've only even been 15 or more MMORPGs for about 5 or 6 years. To get to 15 MMORPGs, then, you'd have to change games at least 3 times a year (5 years x 3 games a year = 15 games). That means most people only play an MMORPG for 3-4 months and then move on. People would not hop around like this if these games were better. They'd keep us hooked longer.

You should really define the meaning "MMO fan". Is "MMO fan" man who plays many, many MMO and quit everysingle of them after like one month? Yes, sure it can be considered as searching for game that suits you but we won't consider this possibility right now. Or maybe real MMO fanat is the man who plays a single MMO game for several years?

But not only player is responsible for the time they, as tillamook said hook on single game, but also developers must do a pretty big part of a job... If you aren't big, big fanat of one developer than the game you play need to be at least a few steps higher than normal...

I, myself, have really played only like two games (RuneScape, not so sure about second one... I spent 5+ years on RS to get to 121 level with nice skills and alot of good friends.). But I've played a lot more games like 30+, many browser-based, client based and even few other type games...

Can't really say how much games have avarage player played. But in my opinion this "MMO fan" thing is more depending on quality (time spent) not quantatity (games played)...

But this is just my opinion...

addmitely only one i really loved was my first one EQ1 and then i went around and around trying to find best one to fit me but nothing compared to the immersive and exciteing epic world of everquest

WoW is the nearest thing i can get too it and its really the only other mmo i have play more then 1 month other then everquest

lets just hope in time the people that are WoW genration players grow to be like us and only then will are genre become what its ment to be

    Good point Snakey.

I think something else to take into consideration is that we're probably the pickiest of picky in terms of gamers. I feel bad for developers taking on an MMO project because we will be happy one second and then tearing the game to shreds the next.

We want everything and big ole bag of chips to go along with it. If we don't get it? No problem, we'll just make your life hell until you listen to us. We're community based by nature, so we have a nack of being able to band together, don't want to listen to us? No problem, how about 10,000 emails in a day to get your attention.

And your right, a site like this, will naturally attract those of us that are a little more passionate about the genre than the common MMO gamer out there. So that makes us unique, hard to please and maybe even... a little odd.

Let's face it, when it comes to the next generation of MMO's, we want the world and nothing less. Is that really a bad thing though?

Think about it. If developers strive to attain what we demand, those of us that ARE on the extreme side when it comes to playing the games we love, if they can manage to even mildly tame us, somewhat please us, if they can manage to come even somewhat close to what we want... Then they know they've got something good.

When you look at it that way, this community, this little collection of nutballs in a bunch, we're probably the most accurate barrometter for any development company out there. WE are the people they want to make happy, if they do that, then boy... They've got it made.

Might just be me but that's something to be proud of. At the very least, it gives our narsicism a little more meaning and validity .

That's kinda how I feel about it to.

To me Wurm Online is the most Perfect Concept for an MMO ever created. I mean, it's totally sandboxed, you can terraform the land and even dig mines for god's sake, actually build cities brick by brick, turn those cities into kingdoms and wage wars against other totally player created kingdoms, cities what not. I'm not sure if it has skills or not in the game, all I know about it is the concept because it's programmed in Java and I can't play the damn thing because it lags so bad because it's programmed in Java.

But the fact is, I am looking for a world to emerse myself into. A game that will truely feel like a "Second Life" but then again, it needs to be a GAME first and foremost. There must be Gameplay elements because that's what makes it great. I want to be able to go out and do things in this "Second Life" that I cannot do IRL.

I can't build a house, but in a game I want to. IRL that doesn't even intreset me, computers interest me, but in a game I'm a crafter. (I'm a bit artistic too, maybe that plays part in it :-P) IRL I'm actually a very nice person and would give the shirt off my back to a neighbor, but in a game I want to rip that shirt off your back and wear it myself. lol

Well with all the free downloadable trials and buddy codes out, most people will have tried several in a year if that. I know when I tried quite a few earlier this year and that was the best part going into something new....then lol you play it and just go for the uninstall . I would definatly like to thank Mmorpg for making this site,it has shown me many games out there and lots of great people to interact with .

    Waiting on Guild Wars 2

The only problem with MMORPG.COM is forum moderators who don't bother to check facts before issuing warnings.

Trials do contribute I think too. I'm doing the Saga of Ryzom trial now, since they cut out that credit card crap. I'm sorry, you DO NOT need my CC# if I'm just checking out the game. So far I like it and I may give it to them when my trial is up.
