As Guild Wars is losing money (or according to NCsofts latest report, the game was a huge flop in Asia), this could possibly be the last expansion before GW closes its doors. Factions sales came as a dissapointment

Really? Strange because the report I read from NCSoft a few weeks ago said the opposite. GW sales keep rising and rising. It's CoH and CoV that are going down and as we know AA was not a success. Actually GW sales has kept NCSoft's finances well considering AA's failure. I'm sure Guild Wars will stay for a while.

Hes still right - factions was a pile of wank that simply brought more interest in prophecies. If they release another expansion like factions I think thats the last straw for most users. I have very little faith in NC soft, after all these guys made CoV,CoH, DDO and Auto Assault ... getting it right with guild wars is not going to coast them any further.

Torak posted an NCsoft report a while ago, I'll try to find it. GW is still selling, but they are losing money.

aa was modelled gw i might have bought it, the monthly fees put me off. If DDO was the same i might have tried it. Every game that NCSOFt has released i would have bought if only they had no monthly fees.

the sad truth is that not all players stick to one game, i myself play a lot of games, thats why i was forced into buying GW because i was subscribing to two other mmorpgs already. Such models(like GW) gives gamers like us the opportunity to try it, or decide whether to buy future expansions and not.

You dont want to be paying for 2-4 different mmorpgs at the same time would you?

I enjoyed the game, but i don't think i'm getting nightfall. Mostly because I enjoyed it for it's mission content (a lot of fun) but after that there isn't much to do. The bigest thing that turned me away from the game is how hard it is to get in a good guild these day's. You practicly need to be at least rank 3 or higher if you want to get into any PvP groups that have a chance at suceeding, and it's hard to get your rank up when your stuck with idiots.

Plus, I still don't like how the game is so "power-build" focused. I hardly see any origionality in the builds these days. Seems everyone is running their "IWAY" and "VIMWAY" builds and their R-Spiker's and tripple smiters, ect. Don't see enough of the "hey lets try something different!" builds.

I doubt it will resemble Faction. There are 2 separate internal design team, the same team who worked on Prophecies are the same people behind Nightfall. The team behind Factions is working on Chapter 4. Anet claimed it wont be anything like Guild Wars we've seen before. If anything, it'll probably within the least  root from Prophecies, the Elonian civilization completely wiped out in the Crystal Desert and then expanded from there.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

Woot continuity error! According to the Factions player guide and numerous Luxon npcs the Luxons 'might be' descended from the Elonians who lived in the Crystal Desert. These maybe seperate teams but you'd think they'd consult eachother when dealing with Prophecies Canon.

Here is the link showing GW sales keep getting up and up, check out "NCsoft Announces 2006 Second Quarter Financial Results": http://www.ncsoft.com/eng/NCPress/list.asp

On my side I like very much NCSoft, at least they're not like the others making clones, they are trying and experimenting new stuff which is more then most out there. Also, they usually offer time card with their games along with credit cards to pay for the monthly fees. I hate the credit cards discrimination from the others, plenty of adults can't have a credit card with legit reasons (me included), the idea only kiddies buy the time cards is wrong; there are also plenty of people who don't like giving their credit cards infos as well. I hope Tabula Rasa will be very good and fun and will bring tons of profit to NCSoft.

I havent played gw in a while mostly cause i played prophecies so much i just got burnt out on it. I got factions but havent played much of it. I might get nightfall just to keep up my account and for the pve challenge which is something i enjoy.

Same here.  SWG was the greatest MMO, and nothing ive played comes close to SWGs PvP.

its a great game , ive been playing for 16 months and counting.
but its not easy to pass a certein level of skill builds combinations knolage. im almost sure most people stop playing guildwars becose at a point you must spend a lot of brain , you are forced to learn , just like in school , it took me a very long time to accept that and evolve , at first i didnt want to spend so many brain cells on game .. but at the same time i didnt want to be a NOOB forever , so instead of stop playing , i start learning SLOWLY what all those endless skills do , alone and combined with others ...

its a dam good game , good games dont die

dont take this as a flame , but most of you that post saying you stop playing guildwars after doing the missions , we guildwars fans can only call you one thing NOOB !

for the same reason i said before , you can do all the 25 missions in 24 hours or 3 months , compare a 3 months player with someone that took the brain cells to learn the skills .. the 3 months player that did all the missions , is a total newcomer. doing all the missions is far from the end game play style. being level 20 is even more far from end game play style. the Role Playing Part in guildwars , is more of a social playing , if you dont learn from the " street knolage " you wont be near usefull or competitive , you have to fix your selfe with the people , learn from everyone , join pugs ... of corse everyone is free to play like they want , all im saying is what i think are the reasons for people stop playing guildwars.

its like , if you cant swing the bat , how can you enjoy baseball ?

That actually proves my point. as you can see, GW was a failure in Asia, and the sales are on active in EU and US. also, it doesn't say anything about a win or lose situation. it just mentioned the sales. a while ago, NCsoft released a more detailed report where you can see GW is actually losing money slowly. As soon as I find I'll post it here.
  • MetzgerMetzger Member Posts: 40

Well, I tried to investigate this “GW has flopped” rumor
lately, and to be honest I start to believe it was an misinterpretation. NC soft
is loosing money, but not GW. It wasn’t a big hit in Asia,
but it sold really well in other regions, and is it providing a steady profit.

Factions, even though it was a poor expansion, sold quite well
    on hype alone.

    And a side note,  one
of the major reasons for NCsoft loosing money, is the fact that Chinese mmorpgs
dominated local market, and that was a
huge blow to all Korean developers. So right now NCsoft is really in need of a recognizable
brand outside of Asian market, and GW provides just that.

In other words, even if GW would be loosing money, NCsoft wouldn’t cancel it, as it provides them prestige on EU an US
market (for example L2 even though profitable is a huge failure in terms of PR)
