The Ducks are a small bunch of second-rate weekend coders with some talent... so they have a HUGE advantage over the dev's...

Acording to von Neumann, anything that is computable can be created in a computer. It may take long time to run, but it will run and finish.

But we're talking business here, not science.

Cannot be done technically = admin who was running the pre-cu server deployments was moved elsewhere
Impossible = costs too much, our profits would drop by 3%
We will never = we're waiting till we can get more money out of it
We have learned from our mistakes = we hired a better PR
We're contuinously working on improvements = wow, people are still subscribing
We are commited towards ... = sales says ... will bring us in 4% increase in subscriptions

What they have so far isn't really pre-cu yet.  You can login to the world and look around, but there's nothing uniquely pre-cu about it other then the interface.

They never say why.  They just say it is impossible.  It's not a lie, because it would be impossible to install it and keep your job long enough to prevent them from uninstalling it.

The point is that they did it they had the skill tree up with the 32 proffessions i saw so even if its where i cant do much id have to say i was in a pre-cu server it sure as hell wasnt NGE thats for sure. So like i was saying if they can make it and have it where its pre-cu i think that it proves me right that it can be done and they flat out lied no surprise there i guess. Now let me guess Obraik oh well u cant be CH or bio-engineer yet huh? I dont remember NGE having a skill tree or 32 proffesions last time i checked

Understand that the server tells the client what actions to take, what animations to run and when, and what the current status of hundreds of objects are.  The client software is very robust and has "everything in it" as it relates to visual, audio, and tactile I/O.  So none of that needs to be coded.

The recently released video only showed the triggering of combat animations, not actual combat, so do not let that get your hopes up too high.  A LOT of stuff needs to be coded on the server to resolve combat and send the correct messages in the proper layout for the version of the game the client is told to play.  There is a lot more to combat than arms and legs moving.  Notice the butterfly in that video took no damage.

Bottom line:  All you have seen so far is the equivalent of smoke and mirrors (not to imply deceit, these are all necessary steps).  A signal gets sent from the server to the client to activate animation #47 (Unarmed Hit 1) and the client loops that animation until it is told to run another one.

What the others have done so far really proves nothing unfortunately.

Well if im in there and physically moving and seeing the skill tree and 32 professions thats proof enough for me ill agree it has a loooong ways to go and lot to be done and personally i have given up on it as well. Like i was saying though if i can play it and its not NGE thats proof to me u can get technical all u want with coding and interfaces all i can say is i know it can be done based on i played it lol so they lied once again no surprise there. If playing it isnt proof i dont know what is?

$OE admits its possible, but they don't want to devote the resources to it.  Or, if you're wearing a tin foil hat, there are rumors that LEC won't allow them another license to do it (1 license per version of game).  I suspect there is something to that last point, but there is no proof for it.

Now the interesting question is what resources would be needed - most players just want servers and server maintenance - no development, etc.  $OE insists they wouldn't do it without also providing development.  Basically $OE's position necessitates a full second staff, which they say isn't worth it.  They've never explained why they won't do just the the servers + basic support.

And what is sad, is how excited people got with just that...

Think about it, just the interface and to be able to walk around in it....lol

This shows where the fanbase is and how well they like the NGE vs the old..(There is people that rather see the interface, stand in Coronet and talk) -- lol says alot about the NGE lol.

Ah, so you're saying pre-cu's highlights was that it was a glorified chatroom?

That's one lame response Ob... I know you're better than that

The statement ppl get excited about the "glorified chatroom" just tell how much the current system suck and you know it too (even if you still enjoy the current game)

Majority of people so extremly excited over that are those that just want to play for free, or have never played SWG in their life and just want another free MMORPG.

There's plenty of people who play WoW emulators that has 255 levels, 100 and 1000x xp rates, insta-kill weapons, and more. They don't care about function or purpose, as long as it's a god mode galore. Many of the most vocal ones are also associated with the servers and will be running around with mod given items and stats.

There's also plenty of emu supporters who only played CU, but are happy to take something for free. Look at the commotion caused by CU vs. pre-cu that resulted in certain forums to be taken down.

This is the reality of emulators.

Not true. They have a working combat Engine, but they structure needs work. So far, you can fight, but they're now working on plugging in actual Professions. Is it ready? Hell no, but they've made some real progress... to bad it's an EMU, not Classic Servers...

No, the Pre-CU "glorifed chatroom" is STILL more fun than the NGE.

I appreciate your enthusiasm MX, but...

They do not have a "working combat engine".  They were able to make the client tell the server it wanted to throw a punch at a stationary butterfly.  Then they made the server tell the client, "OK, use the Unarmed Hit 1 animation".  And the client then did the animation.  Then they spammed the attack repeatedly.  No damage was done, armor and skills were not taken into account, etc...  It was a small first step towards combat at best.

Wake me up when the butterfly strikes back and one of you gets incapped.
