Oh on a side note . Warning a certain fan who frequent this site has called on the general forum for a "call to arms" to the rating board to push the game up the ratings which is currently below SWG.
Pathetic. Sempiternal is asking people who have not even played the game to give it a score of 9 in the same thread he explains the rating curve at MMORPG.com is designed to exclude lunatics who spam rate games in order to inflate their ratings.
Is anyone at MMORPG.com taking notice of this?
Aye, a quote from that thread by sempiternal:
"You don't have to wait until you play to vote. The hype meter is a comparative measure of how much you are looking forward to playing an MMOG in development versus other MMOGs in development.
So if you are looking forward to playing RV more than any other MMOG, you would rate it a 9 (10s are thrown out)"
That's bending the rules imho and inverting the ranking system. By this logic I suppose the RV fanboyz won't mind if the rest of us who haven't played it, rate it a '2' to express our indifference of ever playing this game after what we've seen and read in the various threads.
Don't get me wrong, I was looking forward to this game ca. 1-2 years ago. I thought it was original and a nice change from the usual fantasy genre and I also believe in supporting small software companies but it seems obvious to me that this game was rushed out in an unfinished state and thus presents a huge disappointment. But while I had quite a few laughs in these threads and especially when watching the video, I can't help but also feel sorry for RB and this project.
Not so with some of it's fans though, while I do approve of clinging to a game concept because it has potential I highly disapprove of hyping a product which has obvious flaws, that's more or less fraud imho. And no matter how RV fans twist and turn the 'educational' question, I've read the thread and that question from a RV fanboy only had the intent of discrediting and undermining the opinion of another player who voiced his dislike of RV. Since when does education have anything to with the fact if a game is fun or not anyway? If anything, it's dependent on people's subjective interests and I believe there were lots of people who had interest in this game but were simply letdown by the (un-)finished product.

The requiring a college education to play bit was awesome. Yea right I spend 4 years on an engineering degree, 2 years to get a masters and now finally I am qualified to run around in my underwear in a computer game beating people with sticks. YAY ME !!!1
That education-comment was merely stating the target audience of RV, just as sandbox games generally target the more educated people. That doesn't mean that RV is only for educated players or that those who dislike RV is unintelligent, but that you will find more educated people than in the average game.
Albert Einstien was a college dropout. By your logic he would not be among the target audience for RV.
A persons education does not define how intelligent they are. More often than not, it just shows how good they are at reatining information without understanding anything.
Don't make dumb arguments and then try to defend it.
As for finding more educated people in RV, Going through the posts of the RV fanbois, I tend do disagree.
Ps: RV's biggest fanboi doesnt know the difference between preview and review. Wonder what university he got his PhD from.
How did my post conflict with what you say? Perhaps you should read my post before making yourself look stupid. A target group does not dictate every single person who play RV, but as any other game you still have one and it will reflect the playerbase.
And I didn't say intelligence = education. I was just making an example that it doesn't mean your less or more intelligent by disliking RV(or any other game for that matter).
Oh, and calling my arguments stupid and repeating them afterwards served what point?
Ok by your own admission, education is not equal to intelligence. Then what exactly is the point in saying that they are aiming for a people with a higher eduaction? is it that they have more money to spend on a piece of crap like RV. Is it that they are too dumb to realise that the game they paid money for is crap. or is it that you need to be a brain surgeon or rocket scientist to play a game that frankly stinks to high heaven.
When you answer this question, I will let you off the hook.

I didn't have a point of saying so, it was not my original post regarding the target audience. I couldn't care less whether you like the game or not I just wanted to clear out the misleading information that people like to spread.
Firstly, enough with the quoting.Try editting some of it if you gonna quote 5 replies lol.
Secondly, some fans of RV have gotten very insultive which has proven to lose them support. Then after they noticed that they started on the "game for the elite" which to me was plain hilarous .
If anything it would drive away a professional. It looks and feels sloppy. And any professional that done an audit or presentation will tell you if you come with a sloppy looking fodder where all your presentation is hand written and drawn you can have the most meaniful data in the world but you already lost the audience.
RV and all mmorpg are not brain food games! And rightfully so.Workers come home to relax on the games.
The game is much better than the vids make it out to be...like old EQ1, the game looks better in first person view. Buzz is just a hater cuz he is bitter that he couldnt hack it, and was getting killed by the fanbois on the RV fourms, so came here with that for his jollies.

So you are saying these videos don't represent the current look and feel of the game? Did they upgrade the graphics engine? This game looks about as fun as a tax audit.
I have to agree. You could take the swords out of their hands and replace them with calculators and it make the same sort of impression on me. It just looks terrible... every bit of it.

If by "hack" you meen I couldn't handle it, then you are correct. I couldn't even log onto the game for days at a time, when I did get on the lag was so horrible I couldn't "hack" it. The game looks like crap on toast, I don't know what you meen by I was getting killed by the fanbois, I just posted these videos here to see what other gamers thought of them.. I guess we have an answer. The game is so bad that it's funny, and you are a true fanboi.
BTW, the first video is about a couple months old, the second one is only a week or so old, not much difference huh? haha

The last vid is closest on the look...I suspect FRAPS was causing the 'stuttering' in the movement. It really dosent capture the feel at all tho, as actually being in a fight is in first person view. I wish he had taken some footage whille actually fighting. If you want to cap on the graphics, I wont argue, but the actual fighting gameplay is pretty intense. Once ballistics are in, I will take some of my own footage and post it here.

Haha nice try grin, blame fraps for the crappy code in RV. We can't wait for your footage.
OMG!? what the frickin heck was that? I mean when i saw this thread i thought the video would be some good. Then i watch the video. That was the biggest, most horrific decision ive ever made. WoW PvP is better than that poor excuse to pick someones pocket. Silkroad is better than that. crappy graphics + even worse game play = -(me playing it)^2
That is an awful video! I could likewise make an awful video of any other game and post it here in an attempt to discredit the game, but that's not something I would waste my time doing.
What I am concerned about is those that find the combat unrealistic or "unchallenging" because they see very poorly made videos of fights during the worst possible instances of time, periods of lag, where there are not sparkles, lazer beams, explosions and rays of light circling over the fighters heads.
Real combat is brutal, bloody and quick - it's not pretty in the least and that is what you will find in Roma Victor. Before you make fun of Roma Victor combat not looking pretty, I challenge you to try it first.
So while that video is one of the laggiest and worst I have seen of Roma Victor, I would like to point out that at least you don't see any of the following type of make-believe, even if you do consider it "pretty":
"Oh man, PvP in World of Warcraft is awesome. I spotted this huge group of horde on the bridge between Duskwood and the Redridge Mountains, so I alerted the local defense. Tons of alliance converged on the area and we ended up fighting them just south of Lakeshire. At one point it seemed like they had just disappeared, but it turned out they were hiding in the lake. Big battle. Very fun. I got 26 honorable kills!" - http://www.hjo3.net/jul18-sep2-05.htm
Hiding in the Lake? Indeed!
Don't be so quick to pass judgment. If you have not played Roma Victor, at least try it before you draw conclusions from a crappy video. Don't foolishly form an opinion with no knowledge or experience, based upon a terrible video that a couple of haters are intentionally posting in an attempt to discredit the game; if you do, you have fallen for it.

That's like the time me and like thirty guys in my guild raided Stormwind. We all ran past the front guards and into the dwarven district and held a post at that stonebuilding in the top right corner of dwarvern district. There were so many people trying to make it in to kill us they would jump into the building one at a time and we would just smash them one after another. We held that spot for almost 5 hours.
Then they got smart, sent in the warriors first so we would concentrate on them and finally everybody jumped in.

These videos show virtually identical looking guys wandering around in their underwear waving mop handles at each other. On the visual effects scale, there's a lot of room between bright special effects and some guys in their underwear with mop handles.
Real combat is brutal, bloody and quick - it's not pretty in the least and that is what you will find in Roma Victor. Before you make fun of Roma Victor combat not looking pretty, I challenge you to try it first.
This wasn't brutal, bloody, and quick, it was some guys milling around in their underwear waving mop handles. And it's always a bad sign for your game when you defend pathetic graphics with something like 'real combat isn't pretty'. Real combat was interesting enough for the historical romans to have huge crowds watching fights, I felt embarassed for the players after watching that video.
video was taken by mattius if i am right and he is a supporter of RV and doubt he wants to show it in a bad light. But he has proven in the past to be while a bit biased to RV he NEVER hides its shortcomings like some rabid fans try to.He showed the video as things are.
So as you can see this fanboys have now decided to scream "video is awful!" yet despite praising the game heaven and earth, day and night have yet to post a video and have only ever posted a couple of pictures which were used by the developers as showcase photos(thus you see them circulating the same pictures over and over again) which were photo touched.
So basically according to the fanboys the video is awful and a lie ,the pc zone uk review was awful and a lie.Geez.
And oh don't listen to those that scream try it first.Until the game offers a free trial(if ever) don't bother with it.Its following a thread of mmorpg made by a couple of guys as part timers to pay their mortgage quickly. It maybe a few $$$ but it adds up and personally i am tired of giving ppl money for sub standard products .How about you?
Same way people saved me throwing my money on another junk and feeding a couple of developers with dark and light .Sadly i fell for this one .At least i escaped DnL devs getting my money
That is an awful video! I could likewise make an awful video of any other game and post it here in an attempt to discredit the game, but that's not something I would waste my time doing.
WoW now you want to blame the quality of the video and suggest it doesn't accurately represent what we saw?
Originally posted by Bennjim RV is a v.cool game and especially the combat system, as rare sandbox style game in a world of cookie cutters it should get more support from MMO gamers but then poor people vote republican in this world - so what gives?
Benny........................................
I didn't know that poor people voted primarily Republican. Interesting fact or fiction? But what does that have to do with the topic of RV? You RV fanbois seem to spew a lot of nonsense and have a distorted view of reality. That explains your fondness for such a crappy game as Roma Victor.
Why the hell this game has a following, blows my mind away.
Back in the beta, I made a post something along the lines of asking why the games graphics were so bad and why it looked like it was made on 3D Studio max..and got a similar response which blew me away because it was just so bad...(but hen 3D studio max models look better than Roma Victor lol)
Graphics aside.. Wandering in an endless sea of green_grass_#2 pattern trying to find coords for something in an endless waste of nothingness with an unchanging background that looks like rotten pudding isn't fun.
It was that really far out shot where there were 2 roman's standing in the center of the arena and then one fell down and the other was still standing...
And that was literally about all you could tell of the PvP from that video. It lasted about 5 seconds.

Funny part is how the fanboys suddenly turned rabid on the maker of the video .Who i think is mattius and he speaks well of RV(just never tried to hide the shortcominings).
Yet they are yet to produce any video of their own .Heck even the screenies if you noticed(and they posted few of them) are actually old publicity shots taken by RB way before launch.
Originally posted by sempiternal Before you make fun of Roma Victor combat not looking pretty, I challenge you to try it first.
Sure. You pay for my copy because I surely am not putting out the money for a game that has done absolutely nothing to inspire me into buying it. Even the fan media on it is severly lacking.
You seem to lack some concepts about fast moving combat. The same ones SOE doesn't get I beleive.
Combat can feel fast, that doesn't mean it has to last 2 seconds to make it realistic. It doesn't NEED particle effects to make it exciting.
So enough with the cracks at fantasy games where magic does exhist in the world. Why don't you try comparing it to WWII Online which has no such things and manages to be a hell of alot more exciting looking then this game.
It's like building scale models. If you try to paint a scale model of a tank exactly the same way a real tank is painted it will look very fake. To make something LOOK real it has to be exxagerated, shadowed differently and so on.

As I had some time off school today, I decided to read what I thought would be a mature thread, and address some things.
First of all, thanks to all those who watched the videos. I am by no means an expert on the subject of editting or filming, and to be frank, those were my first two videos. To those who insulted me or the videos, if you posted constructive comments I will be sure to use them for any future ones I consider. To those who posted comments that had no educational benefit whatsoever, please don't bother posting about it. Simply ignore my videos from now on, or check back in time to see if I have improved due to the helpful comments.
Secondly, to the "fanbois" of Roma Victor as you have so been dubbed. Just get away from this forum. Everyone knows you like the game, everyone knows I like the game. To come here and defend it is a waste of time. If YOU enjoy it, then YOU shouldn't have to defend it.
And to the notorious "haters". We all know YOU dislike the game. Very well, that is perfectly acceptable to have your opinion. What is not acceptable is to come here and flame the players, be it for revenge or just to start more fights. "Defending people buying the game" is no excuse. If I was buying a game I would simply look at all the stupid comments made by both parties here and then go read the real forums and look at the screenshots.
Just because someone told me to buy the game, or to stay away won't affect my choice until I have looked at it truly.
So what I am saying is, if you'd like to discuss the game here, then do so. Don't take stabs at other people, don't insult them, just talk about the game. If you want to talke about the lag say something like:
"Has RB taken any steps to calm the lag problems which festered the game two months ago?"
Instead of:
"WTF is up whit the lag?"
People will take everyone much more seriously, and not only will people actually respect these forums, but they will turn to them for advice. Real advice on games, not flaming, or trolling, or fanboism, or hater-boi-ism...
I hate to remind everyone that forums are for mature discussions but...
Grow up.

Best time on WoW ever.

These videos show virtually identical looking guys wandering around in their underwear waving mop handles at each other. On the visual effects scale, there's a lot of room between bright special effects and some guys in their underwear with mop handles.
It is poopoo

Honest opinion... the game is lacking.
It needs alot of work.

Grow up.
