I would like your advice.

I am looking for a good MMORG to play. I palyed EQ for about 3 years, Neocron for about 3 months, SWG for 5 months and am currently playing Horizons and The Realm Online. I am unhappy with Horizons as it seems they are forcing GM Events down your throat whether you want to participate or not. :( What I am looking for ina  MMORG:

1) No PvP. I can accept a dueling system but PvP is just not  my thing.

2) Reasonable graphics and sound. Needs to be at least as good as Neocron.

3) No GM Events forced upon me. I want to be able to do things my way, not someone else's.

4) Decent crafting system. I like to build things. Having the ability to build structures is a definate plus.

5) A player economy where you can sell the things you make/find.

Fantasy is preferred but I will look at any game that meets the above requirements. Can any of you suggest a MMORG that might fit me better than Horizons?

Thanks for any help you can give

Sounds like Dark Age of Camelot has what you need. It has no forced PVP, the PVP is in different zones, you can duel. The graphics and sound are nice enough. No GM events. Good crafting and you can own your own house with a free add-on. Good loot drop items and crafted items. You can pick it up with the first expansion pack, Shrouded Isles, together for $20 in the Gold box. You can also download a 7 day trial here: http://www.fileplanet.com/files/130000/136481.shtml

I think you may want to give Final Fantasy XI a try.  It is a fantasy game, different than anything else I have played, but most similar to Everquest if you had to compare to another MMORPG.  It's got a nice player economy.  Right now there is no PvP in the game, however, there will be soon with an add-on.  The graphics are very nice, especially the scenery.  The character mods are nice if you like the anime look, which I never did, but I got used to it.  Animations are cool.  The game is very deep, with lots to do and explore.  There is story and backgroud along the way with many quests and missions for the nation you choose to side with (as of now Nations do not PvP, but it is expected that they will with the add-on?).  There are no GM events that I know of, but there are player events in the form of Expeditions (expeditionary forces go on the hunt to gain conquest points for their nation?).  Quests and missions can unlock certain jobs.  Each quest I have been on has been fun with a good reward and interesting story.  The NPCs are very interactive, and cut scenes after completing a mission is something new and an added bonus I enjoy.  Some drawbacks are the awkward controls which aren't too bad once you get used to them, and the general difficulty of the game (especially when soloing later on).   I recommend you give it a try, I was in your position a few weeks ago when I tried FFXI, and now I really like it.  I think it will occupy me until Everquest 2.  I hope you find a game you'll enjoy!

If your heavy into crafting try A Tale in the Desert.  Pure crafting, no combat.  Free trial.  Check mmorpg.coms game list.

Heh, I usually complain for the opposite reasons (like, lack of GM events, etc.).

Check out Final Fantasy XI, as Tymora said, however I have no personal experience with it.

You may wanna try Anarchy Online as well. PvP is zone-specific (and practically based on tower battles and arenas, so it's fully optional), GM events are optional, and the graphics are real good, especially due to the Shadowlands expansion. As for crafting, you won't be a good crafter unless you reach a high level, and the economy is mainly based on selling loot items and not crafting items.

    Currently playing:
    * City of Heroes: Deggial, Assault Rifle/Devices Blaster. Server: Defiant.
    * City of Villains: Snakeroot, Plant/Thorns Dominator. Server: Defiant.

Well I would take DAoC over FFXI anyday.

Also I noticed a lot of ex EQ prefer DAoC over FFXI(no I have no figures of this just what i noticed from my old guildies).

However both have a real boring crafting system .

I played DAoC for over 2 years and I really liked it, but in my opinion it is alot different than EQ.  FFXI has more in common with EQ, I think.  They are both great games, though.  I would get into DAoC again if I were a PvPer.  DAoC offers alot of PvP and it is fun if you are high enough level.  I hear that they will improve on it so that most people can meaningfully take part in PvP (instead of trying it out at level 25 just to get beaten down).  The thing I wish DAoC had is a player economy.  I think crafters should play a role in the struggle between the realms.

Yes to be fair FFXI and EQ have a lot in common in the features and way things are done.

However like I reviewed FFXI on eb.com it is a very watered down version of EQ.

I bought it when |I heard it took stuff from EQ because of late everyone is trying not to be like EQ and making a huge pilr of juunk.

However while it has better graphics then EQ it seems to have done much of what EQ has done but to a worse extent and actually looking like a pre EQ in gameplay then a post EQ .

I would still say try DAoC first because its free for 7 days trial and get an impression of it.If you hate it then buy FFXI but it seems pointless to pay $50 for FFXI then find out you don't like it then go try DAoC for 7 days like it and then go pay another $50 for the software.

Rather try DAoC for free.Hate it ,np  go buy FFXI for $50.Going DAoC  first might save you $50.

Good point about the free DAoC trial.  I agree, by all means try it out first.  There are others too, I know Asherons Call 2 has a 14 day free trial.  I think Anarchy Online may have a trial, too.  Personally, I am going to buy the pre-order to Lineage II and try that game out.  I will have to pay for the pre-order, and if I don't like the game I guess I could always cancel and take a 10-15 dollar loss instead of 50.  I tried FFXI just to see what it was all about and I got lucky because I like it, but it would definitely suck if you were curious about a game and bought it for $50 only to find out that you don't like it.

I would go back and play EQ again, but I'm afraid the population of the servers would turn me off.  I am only mid-level and I would probably be one of 2 or 3 people in East Karana.  That's what I have been hearing anyway.  I like to see many other people around and socialize as much as possible, to me, that is what these games are all about.

DAoC had a very good population of the servers (Percival, Nimue, Guenivere) back when I played.

You'll never have a hard time finding someone around in FFXI where ever you are.

Darn, now Herc has got me wanting to play DAoC again and I want to try the AC2 trial, too.  I wish there were 72 hours in a day, and we only had to work 8 of 'em.  (I'd spend 4 hrs. sleeping, .5 eating, of course I would need .25 hrs for the little girls room, and the rest spent playing!).

Picking out a MMORPG that you will enjoy for a long time to come is difficult, especially when there are so many out now, and more on the way.  Some improve where others fail, and I think in order to really get the right game for you, you may need to try many of them.

If there ever was a game I would say would rival EQ it was AC2.But it failed and it failed badly.

Most posts you would see are very negative to this game but in all honesty the first 15 levels of the game is  one of the best experiences I ever had in mmorpg.

As of 2002 it had the best graphics. It actually has talking mobs .I kid you not they say such stuff like"i am bleedinh you imbecile" when you put a bleeder on them and stuff like "meet your ancestors now!" when you aggro. Also you get a voice say "quest completed".

This are very fresh new features in a mmorpg. And actually can keep you awake .

Also it had very decent quests for the first 15 levels.I rarely did a grind for that 15 levels and it made me explore most of the continent.

It has vaults which are mini dungeons with stories of the world to unlock.

Also it has a system it inherited from AC1 called alliegence system .Which encourages people to help those under them in the guild as the person bring a portion of exp to you.So helping those under you is important and it creates a good atmosphere and guild system.

Also the people in AC2 have to be the friendliest I ever seen in my entire mmorpg time.

    And yes it has mounts!

However up to this 15 levels its a kickass mmorpg but after that it suddenly fails.Quest are much fewer and those left are irritating, vaults are all in 3 patterns and the story is totally going nowhere, the world you find out is very very small, turbine bowed to pressure and made dropable loot better and way cheaper then crafted ones totally killing crafting, classes were left unbalanced .As of the time I left the chat system(build by M$ of course) never worked more then a few hours a week which was a nightmare for speaking to your alliegence.

The game has wonderful potential but I feel if they have not got it right more then 1 year after release they never will sadly.

So for sure worth the 14 days trial! Not sure its worth it after that as all the fun is in the first 15 levels and the other 35 is like agony.

LOL, best rewards in PvP zones is FORCED PvP!   As long as the best item to kill goblins, orcs and whatever in solo or grouping in a non-PvP zone drop in a PvP zone, it is enforced PvP!  (same with raiding apply)

As long as someone cannot be the best PvE soloer only PvE soloing, you are enforcing something on this PvE soloer.  I dont mind grouping at all, it is fun(for me, that dont mean it is for someone else), I dont mind quests even if I want to kill mobs and be the best at it, not really wanna quest(might be different for someone else), I can bear tradeskilling even if I will not be overjoy with the idea.

But when you give the best stuff to folks that PvP or Raid only, I just go away with no interest, I dont play those games and I will not start playing them just to be good in the games I care!  I can quests, group and tradeskill to some extend to be the best soloer(or trying to), and I can solo and tradeskill to some extend to be the best grouper(or trying to), but that is personnal and the more you expect folks to *earn* stuff far from what they like, the more you will lose some, we are playing, not working!  Keep that in mind!

Someone could make a game where your RL studies give you an incredible edge and say, well, go to University if you want to be the best in the game, it will just be 1000 steps farther in the direction enforced PvP and enforced Raiding are heading atm, and saddly, I dont think devs will adapt before at least a few years on this topic, whoever adapt first will win the jackpot!

4 years at University >>>> anything you can do in a game, and nobody would even argue that...yet, if someone earn stuff raiding or PvP and get very uber edge, I want my university degree to matter as well in soloing then, or then just cut those unfair edge right now!  I want the fact I finish Civilizations at Diety once to matter as well, it is harder then any raid, thereby it should give best group and solo gear, no? :)  We all see that no, it is another game, so raiding and PvP been relatively close games can give relatively close very trivial edges, no more, certainly not the best edges you cant even earn in the soloing game itself!

    BY reading what you want:

Final Fantasy XI is YOUR GAME! Definatly!

Crafint system is great. There's tons of epic quests but no forced events.

No PVP at all so far. It will be implemented soon but only for those who want.

Graphics are really really nice. Sure it's comming from the PS2 but the devs modeled the landscape with so much detail it'S just awesome to run around and watch waterfalls and stuff.

Animations are among the best i've seen and fighting system is more than just click and wait.

    Give it a try.
