I like all of those thing, plus

    -player made and owned boats.

-diplomacy sounds like a lot of fun.

-being able to craft rare and awesome weapons, rather then "above average"

-the necro pets are an awesome idea <grafting>

    -druid pets sound great <elemental>

    Not so nice guy!

Obvioulsy everything the above 2 posters have stated, but its more about putting all the things i enjoy doing in different games and putting it all in one place.  Has any game had all these features in one package?  I'm one of those people lately who gets bored just doing one thing all the time.

Another thing ive noticed and its probably just me, but it seems the developers for vanguard are really into makeing this game fun.  Maybe i'm just buying into the hype, or i'm being nieve.  Ive played a lot of MMO's, ive seen a lot of dev posts and such but these guys really seem passionate about more than just makeing a quick buck.  I'm "drinking the Koolaid" and i hope i'm not disapointed.

    I like:

    The art/graphics style

No instancing means a lot to me, a whole lot

    Non instanced player housing

    Boats

    Flying mounts

    Focus on grouping

    Design team

Tons of race/class combinations - individuality with characters

    Things I don't like:

    Having to wait for it

    - Pushing the PC Hardware industry forward by forcing everyone to update their computers to get the most out of the game. (Kind of a joke, but true.)

    Annnnd most importantly,

    - Best online gaming community thus far, and the gameplay greatly opens doors to keep it that way.

OH NO!!!!  Jonaku has been assimilated!

I guess resistance really was futile huh?  Poor lil' guy.

Do the implants hurt?  Where were you when the Vanguard fanboy Borg (let's call 'em Vorg) got you?  In the bathtub maybe?  Geez I ain't never gonna take another bath now.

What's it like being part of a hive mind?

Crud, I guess it's all up to Amathe now to stop the Vorg.  I don't come out of my cave often enough to be much help.

I know you're still in there somewhere Jonaku.  Try to remember who you were.  Don't let the hive mind control you....

Hehe this is kinda funny.  My own main gripe with Vanguard is very specific in nature so I could come up with some positive things to say too.  It's just that I feel anything positive about the game will be completely overshadowed by that one major drawback.

LOL. What a sick sense of 'normal proportion' you have when it comes to women. Too much pr0n has warped your concept of 'fat', I guess. Sad.

-creating a custom character, not just the look but actual stats and build etc.

-all stats matter, int is not just for casters etc.

-classes are unique to each other (on paper at any rate, if they FEEL unique to each other when playing?   Well...guess we'll have to see)

    -massive exploration

-crafting that allows for actual adjustments to an item

-diplomacy actually looks like it could be fun (though I am still a bit skeptical).

-combat seems to make player skill a key factor.

-it would appear that healing is the not the overpowerd ultimate trump card for every encounter in VG, unlike almost every other MMO i've played.

    -no raid flagging required.

-fun art direction.  I'm kinda a sucker for the volumetric coulds and night time sky too.

Nope it's true.  He's just trying to act like he's a fan in order to be accepted into the community and then when he has infiltrated he will start with his bashing of VSoH until he can rally 1 or 2 people to view it his way lol.

or he is making a statement that he is not allowed to post negative topics about vanguard and so he makes a positive topic and it doesn't get locked, witch is my theory.

it all comes down to spamming the boards with the same BS over and over that he obviously thinks is doing no harm. i am one of the biggest trolls on this forum and you don't see me posting topic after topic with my rabid fanboism do you? ::::02::

the irony is he complains about the community over on the vanguard official forums then proceeds to destroy this community over here single handedly with his spamming of flame bait and misinformation.

calling vanguard fans "rabid vanbois" while being a "rabid hateboi" that is blanketing us with his twisted logic is no better than what he is so outraged over at the OVF.

even those trolls over there at the OVF don't spam as much as he does here(well most most of them)...anyways I'm done flaming jonaku, have a great day! ::::20::

I'm gonna say I'm just playing the game for the Monks.... the monks > all

Also I like non-instancing and no bazaar/auction thingy like WoW had.

  • anarchyartanarchyart Member Posts: 5,378

I think his statement is that those of us who like Vanguard don't even know much about it and that we'd all have nothing to say. Sadly, only 3 or 4 people actually listed things they like about Vanguard. The rest were all talking about him, which I'm sure you all know pleases him, so just list some things you like about Vanguard. I have a few new ones:

Customizable playstyle for classes. I just read one of the other threads and for example if you're playing ranger, you can adjust the power of your bowstrikes and sacrifice accuracy for power. And then there's stances, and all of the classes have crazy and kewl ways they can play their character to their style, and change things situationally. Just really innovative and I dig it.

    Most important things for me:

    - No Instancing (feel like a world not a game)

    - No teleportation (travel has meaning)

    - Roleplay (Brad is a tabletop/dice roleplayer)

    - Hard (if its anything like EQ1, it will be hard, a challenge, corpse runs etc)

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

    1) It is not WoW.

    2) Dimplomacy sounds unique and I can't wait to try it.

    3) It is not WoW... wait I said that already.

I can't wait to hear from beta testers after the NDA is lifted.

I really don't quite get this "hard" line of reasoning.  The GW death penalty is hard.  Vanguard, EQ1, most MUDs before that precursed them, their death penalties are inconvient/problematic.  Both penalties give an edge to the game, a reason not to die.  They have a negative reinforcement effect.

That is fine, I won't tell people they dumb for wanting that.  I hate roller coasters, but some people love them.  Fear and such things work different for different people.  Its all good.

But there is a difference between the two systems.  In Guild Wars the death penalty, actually makes you less effective.  You get a % decrease in effectiveness.  Therefore, ipso facto, each death means you need to perfrom better to surmount the rest of that instance.  Or in other words each death makes that instance more challenging(until to work off the penalty).  In Guild Wars one death in a hard encounter may mean that mediocre players simply can't get past it without restarting the isntance or working off the death penalty and if they die again and are at -30% forget it, but a stellar player that made a mistake might still rise to the occassion and get some revenge even with the penalty.  Repeated wipes are more than just inconvient, they make an instance undoable.  This death penalty means that you will not beat something until you can do that instance and reliably not die.  There is no permanent loss, but you simply cannot do something until you are good enough.  You can try to zerg if you like, but repeated deaths will humble you no matter what.  There is a wall based solely on challenge.  Until you can manage good execution of an instance you just won't get very far into it, you will hit a wall.

Corpse runs, do not work this way.  If you don't lose a level and you recover your gear you are back up to snuff.  If you do lose a level you are just back to where you were a day or so ago.  Its not a challenge.  It is consequential and I won't dismiss anyone for wanting consequences in there game. Certainly for some that makes it feel more weighty.  But please stop calling it challenging.  You want to be punished for a screw up, fine, there can be good reasons for such things.  But not all punishments create challenge.

The thing I like best (now) about Vanguard is how it is all things to all people before it is launched.

The only thing better than that is going to be the reaction when reality sets in after it is launched.
