the Rori PVP battlegrounds

so i went over to my friends house i haven't seen in months.. when i got over there. he was playing SWG... so i sit with him and watch him play at the Rori battle grounds, hes a elder jedi with 20 pearls and a bad ass lightsaber.. so. hes all fighting and for 20 mins its just been this every 30 seconds
/attack for 5 seconds
/force heal
/attack for 5 seconds
/Force run out of there
/force cloak
/wait till healing comes back
for about 20 mins thats the only thing he did.. with 2 of his friends and couldn't kill any one
thats how fun battlegrounds is in rori.. i can't believe thats the best they can do.. i wasn't even playing it and i can tell it was dumb.. i ask him. andrew.....is this fun?... he is no....its the only place to do PVP everywhere else doesn't have any one there let alone have special forces people.. just a bad thing that happen. i wont ever play it again..

i ask him why not... he said he shouldn't have to... he was a Jedi knight in pre-cu he shouldn't have to group.. he could of done it back in the day with his eye closed.....
but i do have to agree with him. jedi shouldn't be this weak and should be able to take them down if it wasn't for this NGE curse....
and grouping is more of a WOW!! kind of game not Star wars....

The sad thing is think of how much fun these battlegrounds would have been in the CU or Pre-CU...

Why didn't you make the thread about elder jedi and how they're "underpowered" rather then about Restuss which this doesn't seem to be the issue at hand here :P

Why didn't you make the thread about elder jedi and how they're "underpowered" rather then about Restuss which this doesn't seem to be the issue at hand here :P
because the battlegrounds just suck.... and just pretty dumb. another thing SOE/LA stealed from WOW... i wish they make up there own things like..... Pod raceing.. or something . SOE/LA all ways need some one to hold there hand. to do anything

Battlegrounds were in SWG before WoW, then in a stoke of SOE brilliance (aka, stupidity) they were removed. Now, Restuss has become the single closest thing in SWG to being one of the old-school (preCU) battlegrounds.
-Edited- PreCU battlegrounds were awesome. Easily one of the coolest things I have seen in an MMO.

Pod racing? It's a war :P You expect to find battlegrounds in war. I'm actually at one of the Talus battlegrounds now where a battle has been going on for a few hours (yes, I just died so posting during the load screen :P)
That said, if you go to Restuss solo then you are going to get ganked. Hell, if you go to Restuss in a group you are going to get ganked. That is the 'style' of PvP that is promoted in SWG/Restuss - players forming large groups and pounding the opponent into the ground. I personally don't see the appeal, but then most of the opponents I come up against are a bunch of total knuckleheads. There is no 'roleplay' to the combat, and there is no 'code of conduct' - free-for-all with some nasty attitudes to boot...
The PvP zone also shows one of the flaws in SWG. All professions are NOT equal, but should at least hold their own against an enemy of similar levels. Using Jedi as the example, I don't expect a Jedi to be able to kick the butt of anyone they fight - but as the only melee specialised profession in the game at this time, I do expect a Jedi could deflect a lot of the ranged attacks coming at them. I am also not keen on the whole forced 'PvP build' scenario too. Ideally, any build of any profession can PvP with the right tactics. In reality, certain 'PvP builds' prevail and take the free will right out of the excercise.
I freely admit that I come from an era where PvP in a MMORPG was 'bad', and I was never a FPS baby. Sadly, the prevailing mentality when it comes to PvP hasn't changed and it's these 'bad apples' that turn me off what could be a challenging and fun part of the game.

It was even better on one of the planets at a Weapons Depot.
40 imps and 40 rebs, well actually it was 30/20, then 30/30, then 30/40. The imps really rallied there in the end. We held the base for almost an hour, We even held off a brilliantly executed pincer manuever from 2 seperate imperial forces. Eventually they overwelmed us with numbers, but the PvP was awesome.
There was a saying in a movie (not sure if I'm getting this right) but it went something like.
"If you find yourself alone on the battlefield, you will soon find yourself dead."
Point being, grouping is as necessary on a real battlefield as it is in a game battlefield.
Sounds like this person is upset that they don't have a "WIN" button anymore and they don't own all the other classes running around by themselves, so they are sad. In pre-CU I left the game because with 10 top level characters we couldn't take down one Jedi, he force ran away from us for 20 minutes before he finally found an open house then sat inside and when anybody attacked him they were kicked out of the house. In NGE, that Jedi would be dead inside of 3 minutes or less.
It was one of the things I disliked about he game before, Jedi pwned all. The only class that really had a chance against a fully grinded Jedi was a Bounty Hunter.
This is not the movies, it's a game where there needs to be balance for it to be enjoyable.
I don't blame you for being mad. I would be mad too if had given up a huge portion of my time to grind a Jedi, instead I chose to stay with Master Doc/Master Rifle. I think the people who had Jedi pre-CU got screwed the most. But on the upside, I think the NGE has brought balance to the force (IMO). The Jedi have been nerfed to hell, but it brings them in line with other character classes. Sure Jedi are not uber like they are in the movies, but that's a good things and makes for more balanced PvP.

I am playing NGE, now, I am enjoying it, but I am still somewhat disgruntled w/ SOE for more than one reason. I believe I was talking about how the game was compared to how it is.
So get off of your high horse. I was hoping to stimulate a little intelligent discussion. That doesn't appear to be too probable. Seem there needs to be another form created. "SOE Bashing, general winging, crying, screaming ranting and flaming" Just for you lot that can't seem to get over this whole SOE thing.
Play EQ2, or WoW, or RF Online, or go outside and get some sunshine, sheesh....
